NBC Canceled Two Comedies and Three Dramas

On Friday, the cancellation axe has struck five NBC shows. Here's who got the axe.

Deadline and TVLine reported on Friday that NBC canceled The Irrational and Found after two seasons, Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons, and Suits: LA after one season.

Night Court continues the 1984-1992 courtroom comedy with Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) as Judge Abby Stone, the daughter of Harry Stone (originally played by Harry Anderson, who died in 2018). John Larroquette reprises his role as Attorney Dan Fielding, the public defender. The supporting cast features Lacretta as bailiff Grug, Nyambi Nyambi as court clerk Wyatt, and Wendie Malick, who joined in Season 3 as new prosecutor Julianne.

The series premiered in January 2023, concluding its third season this past Tuesday. The third season featured prominent guest stars, including Mayim Bialik, Richard Kind, and Simon Helberg, who made appearances in the season three finale. The ratings demonstrated a decline, averaging 1.95 million viewers per episode.

Lopez vs. Lopez narrates the story of a "working-class Latino father, George (portrayed by George Lopez), who cohabits with his contemporary Gen Z daughter (represented by George Lopez's real-life daughter, Mayan) as they endeavor to reconstruct their dysfunctional relationship one disagreement at a time."

The third season averaged 2.33 million total viewers (with delayed playback), which is right on par with last year's but slowly declining away from nearly half of its Happy's Place lead. It placed last among the four sitcoms NBC has aired this season (behind Night Court).

The Irrational features Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) as Alec, a university professor and researcher who applies his knowledge of human behavior to assist the FBI in solving complex cases. The cast also includes Maahra Hill as Alec's ex-wife, Travina Springer as his sister Kylie, Molly Kunz and Arash DeMaxi as his academic assistants Phoebe and Rizwan, and Karen David as Rose, Alec's girlfriend.

The series attains an average of 4.4 million total viewers, inclusive of delayed playback, reflecting a decrease of merely 4% from Season 1. It is currently positioned as the seventh out of eleven dramas aired by NBC during this television season, surpassing programs such as The Hunting Party, Found, Suits: LA, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

Found is done after two seasons, which just wrapped up its second season Thursday night.

Season 2, which starred Shanola Hampton (Shameless) as Gabi Mosely, a former missing person, focused on Gabi's chilling secret: She imprisoned her childhood kidnapper, Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). It followed Sir after his escape and capture, introducing another "stealth" family member and revealing that M&A associate Margaret's (Keli Williams) long-missing son Jamie was found.

The series averaged 3.9 million total viewers (with delayed playback), only down 13% from its freshman season. It ranks 9th out of 11 dramas that NBC aired this TV season.

Suits: LA, a spinoff series of the original USA Network drama that starred Gabreil Macht and Patrick J. Adams, stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who joined forces 15 years ago with his buddy, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt), to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.

The series achieved an average of 2.35 million total viewers, including delayed playback. Among the 11 dramas that the network has aired this season, it outperformed its fellow freshman, Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

I had some hope that one or all of these shows would get another season, but with the ratings they received this season, it’s not a complete surprise. Especially with Night Court—I really wish they had wrapped it up nicely instead of leaving us with a cliffhanger! As for Lopez vs. Lopez and The Irrational, I genuinely believed that these two shows had a strong shot at another season because they were truly enjoyable! Suits: LA, on the other hand, should have gotten a second chance for another season.
