FX's The Lowdown: Small-Town Secrets, Big-Time Drama Series Premiere

FX is at it again. With The Lowdown, the network that gave us Reservation Dogs launches another offbeat gem, a quirky, darkly funny drama about secrets, journalism, and small-town power plays. If you like shows that balance humor, heart, and mystery, this one belongs on your radar. Here's my review.

FX’s latest series, The Lowdown, should be on your watchlist. Created by Sterlin Harjo, the mind behind the critically acclaimed Reservation Dogs, the show stars Ethan Hawke as Lee Raybon, a charismatic journalist and bookseller in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The story plunges us into a complicated family conspiracy after a prominent member of a well-known business family takes their own life.

Premiere Review: A Compellingly Quirky Debut

The initial two episodes premiered on FX, and while the series begins with an eccentric edge, it quickly becomes compelling once you start to grasp Hawke’s character. Lee Raybon initially appears to be an odd, unpleasant individual, but this is merely the persona he exhibits as he evolves throughout the mystery. Furthermore, the strong ensemble of supporting characters is prominently featured throughout both episodes, grounding the central plot.

If you enjoy the heartfelt quirkiness and unique voice of Reservation Dogs, you will likewise find this series engaging and humorous. It’s a compelling blend of dark comedy and journalistic intrigue.

Overall, I give the premiere an 8.5/10.
