The investigation into a teenager's murder leads the team to a surprising and deeply personal discovery for Scola, all while introducing him to his new partner. Here's my recap and review of the FBI's "Boy Scout."
It's Agent Eve Ramos's first day at 26 Fed, and she's excited to join the team. Scola, still mourning the loss of Rhodes, is visibly hesitant, even refusing to sit at Rhodes's old desk. The two quickly connect and team up with Maggie and OA to investigate the gang-related murder.
The case takes a shocking turn when Scola and Ramos confront a suspect at a warehouse. Just as the suspect speeds off in a getaway car, Scola spots the driver: it's Galloway, an FBI mentor from his past.
The Undercover Operation
Scola, Jubel, and the returning Isobel quickly learn that Galloway has been deep undercover with the gang for quite some time, aiming to take down their leader, Vogel, who is running a large drug operation. However, the department hasn't heard from Galloway in months.
Scola gets personal, appealing to Galloway's wife for help. This effort pays off, leading to the revelation that Vogel is planning something far larger than just drugs: he intends to take down the man who sent him to jail, along with his family, with a bomb planted at a community gathering.
The Truth Revealed
OA and Maggie race to the scene, successfully evacuating everyone and defusing the bomb. Meanwhile, Scola and Ramos get to Galloway just a moment too late. Shots are fired, and they find Vogel dead, initially assuming Galloway acted in self-defense.
However, Scola finds a hidden video camera and watches the footage, revealing the cold truth of what really happened. Confronted with the evidence, Galloway confesses that he killed the teenager under Vogel's orders to maintain his cover, leading to his immediate arrest.
A Fresh Start for Ramos
Following Galloway's arrest, Ramos confides in Scola about the real reason she needed a change of scenery: her former partner and ex-boyfriend was running with the forefront. After finding a hidden spot in his apartment, she decided she needed to be part of the team that took down the operation. Though Scola is still understandably down, she offers him encouraging words, making sure he understands that what he does truly matters.
Review: A Strong Debut and a Deep Dive
"Boy Scout" episode was an excellent introduction to Agent Eve Ramos. She immediately distinguishes herself by openly sharing her motivations and making sure Scola understands the value of his work, even as he grieves. I'm really enjoying her character so far and hope she stays around for a good while.
This was also a fantastic Scola-focused episode, delving into his personal history and what drives him. The focus on his mentor's perspective, even one who went rogue, provided great insight. The chilling moment of Galloway's arrest was a powerful, heartbreaking ending. The episode also teased future internal drama, with Isobel back and possibly moving upstairs for a promotion, putting Jubel in contention for her replacement. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
What did you think of this week's episode of FBI? Did you like Agent Ramos? Do you believe that Jubel will be Isobel's replacement? Leave a comment.
You can catch FBI Mondays at 9/8c on CBS and streaming the next day on Paramount+.
