The Lowdown "Dinosaur Memories"

FX's The Lowdown, Episode 4, Lee Raybon's questionable parenting methods and journalistic instincts were on full display as he chased down a significant clue, suggesting that maybe his daughter, Francis, isn't so different from her father after all. Here's my recap and review.

The Great Caviar Caper

After renting a new apartment to ensure his daughter's safety, Lee tracks down Ray to ask about Dale's missing books. Ray admits he was bought out by a rival antiques dealer, Catalina. Lee, Ray, and Francis then head to Catalina's place in Keystone Lake, where Lee poses as a Fish and Wildlife officer to search for the books.

He gets caught by Catalina's estranged husband, Marlon, and his brother, Hook, who are part of a group of poachers selling fake beluga caviar as paddlefish eggs. After being captured and tied up, Lee manages to talk his way out by telling an enthralling story about how he wound up in jail. He even writes a love letter for Marlon to give to Catalina.

Meanwhile, Marty receives a surprisingly appealing offer from Donald to head his security detail. In exchange, Marty informs Betty Jo that her prenup allows Donald to seize her husband's ranch, which understandably makes her furious. Marty also receives a visit from Allen, who inquires about Lee but refrains from betraying his confidence.

A Brilliant Move

The episode culminates at the lake house, where Catalina catches Francis stealing the books. Just when Lee returns, overwhelmed by seeing his daughter, he learns that Catalina has burned the books. However, Francis, in a brilliant move, managed to save Dale's single, mysterious letter.

"Dinosaur Memories" was a solid episode that featured excellent father-daughter dynamics between Lee and Francis, which I couldn't get enough of. Francis can get herself out of a sticky situation, just like her father, but she was also smart enough to prioritize the most critical item, Dale's letters, proving her instincts are just as sharp as Lee's.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
