Tommy navigates family and work drama, all while making arrangements for his mother's funeral. Here's a recap and review of Landman, "Sins of the Father."
While making arrangements for his mother's funeral, Tommy is immediately pulled into a new crisis at work: Cami is being sued. They send Rebecca to handle the situation in her own way, while Cami frantically searches for where the $400 million the company lost has gone. Did Monty do something behind Tommy and Cami's backs?
Meanwhile, Cooper asks Tommy for advice on the oil drills he's set up. He surprises his father by revealing he's working with an unknown company and fears he's being exploited. While Tommy investigates Cooper's contract, Cooper also shares difficult news: Ariana doesn't want the same things he does—specifically, she doesn't want to be involved in the pursuit of wealth in the oil business. This realization forces Cooper out of her house.
All of this happens while Angela and Ainsley are giving aerobics lessons to the residents of an assisted living facility. They receive a surprise visit from state inspectors. The visit goes horribly wrong in the signature Angela-Ainsley fashion when the inspectors witness drinks, dirty dancing, and end up falling to the ground. They are arrested, but only briefly, after Tommy orders Walt to secure their release.
Tommy and Cooper, while looking for a coffin, encounter T.L., who is watching the sunset. After a brief talk, Tommy and Cooper have a deeply emotional conversation about fatherhood, with Tommy sharing some backstory about his complicated childhood with his own parents. By the episode's end, Tommy learns the shocking truth about the owner of the company Cooper is working with: it's Gallino.
"Sins of the Father" was a well-written episode, primarily focusing on the compelling Cooper-Tommy story arc and Tommy's constant navigation of Cami's company drama, alongside his wife's and daughter's (admittedly annoying) chaos.
The standout moment was the scene where Tommy talks to Cooper about fatherhood. This single exchange carried the emotional weight of the entire episode, showing the character's profound effort to avoid his father's mistakes and instead offer love and support to his son. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
What did you think of this week's episode of Landman? Now that Tommy knows Gallino is involved, what do you think is Gallino's ultimate goal? And what advice would you give Cooper regarding Ariana? Leave a comment.
