Daredevil: Born Again (S2, Ep. 6) "Requiem"

When the last tether to a man's humanity snaps, the world should brace for impact. In 'Requiem,' Vanessa Fisk's death didn't just leave a widower; it unleashed a hurricane threatening New York City. From a fan-favorite return to a philosophical brawl at City Hall, this episode masterfully depicted tension, grief, and the brutal vigilante reality. Here's my recap of an hour showing some cycles of violence are unbreakable.

The episode opens in the chilling silence of Wilson Fisk’s grief, a quiet rage that quickly turns lethal when he murders the surgeon who failed to save Vanessa with a crushing bear hug. This descent into irrationality begins to cost Fisk his political armor; Governor McCaffrey officially pulls her support, and the shadowy Mr. Charles begins a campaign to systematically dismantle Fisk’s administration. Amidst this power vacuum, Jessica Jones makes a thunderous return to the fold. Now a mother to a daughter, Danielle, Jessica is forced out of her quiet life after Mr. Charles’ operatives attempt a botched recruitment. She teams up with Matt Murdock to raid an AVTF weapons cache in Red Hook, a mission that reveals her powers have become dangerously unpredictable in her post-motherhood years, forcing Matt to play protector during the fray.

While the heroes are in the field, the tension at the resistance hideout reaches a breaking point. Karen Page, tasked with guarding a recovering Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, finds herself at the end of her moral rope. She nearly executes the man who took so much from her, only to be stopped by Matt, a confrontation that leads to a blistering argument where Karen accuses him of prioritizing the lives of his enemies over the safety of those he loves. The hour culminates in a desperate meeting in the Mayor’s office. Matt offers Fisk a final out: they both leave the city forever, ending their "rabbit in a snowstorm" cycle of violence. Fisk refuses, leading to a brutal, close-quarters brawl that results in the symbolic destruction of the iconic white painting. But while Matt wins the fight, he loses the war on the streets. As protesters gather, AVTF officer Connor Powell murders his own colleague, Saunders, frames the resistance for the death, and uses the chaos to capture Karen Page.

"Requiem" is an intense and exciting triumph that beautifully combines the dark, operatic roots of the series with more personal, character-driven stakes. Bringing Jessica Jones back into the story adds a refreshing, cynical energy, showing just how dire the situation in New York has become. It’s an exhilarating episode that prepares a serious, ominous tone for the final part of the season. The destruction of the painting marks a shift—no more symbolism. With Karen in custody and the city in chaos, Daredevil’s fight is no longer about ideals; it’s about survival.

Vincent D'Onofrio remains a compelling TV figure, his haunting portrayal of a man lost in grief. The writing for Deborah Ann Woll and Charlie Cox was excellent. Karen’s justified anger at Matt’s "no-kill" rule sparked a meaningful, overdue conversation. The episode's highlight was Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, presenting her as an "Action Mom" with flickering powers, adding vulnerability and making her partnership with Matt feel more like a peer struggle than a typical superhero team-up.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

What did you think of this episode? With the city convinced the resistance is murdering officers and Karen now in the hands of a vengeful AVTF, do you think Matt’s refusal to 'end' his enemies has finally cost him everything, or will the return of Jessica Jones be the wildcard he needs to win back the streets?
