What happens when your secret office fling, your last-ditch career gamble, and your too-cozy roommate setup all start collapsing at once? Episodes 6 and 7 of Not Suitable for Work gleefully find out—and the fallout is deliciously messy. Here's my recap and review.
AJ and her boss, Bill Gibson, are still trying to keep things strictly professional at work while quietly dating. That plan blows up when Bill oversleeps after a night together and literally runs into Josh while sneaking out of AJ’s apartment. Josh quickly pieces together that AJ is secretly seeing the big boss and rushes to tell Kel, right before they gear up for a “Steak and Tears” night to break the news to still-smitten Davis.
Over in the fashion world, Abby is rebuilding after walking away from the safety of working under powerhouse stylist Vanessa. Everything rides on her one remaining client, Austin Blanchett, who keeps pushing for something romantic. Abby holds the line, lands him a huge brand ambassador deal…and then gets blindsided when he fires her for a more established stylist. Devastated, she kicks him out, leaving her with zero clients and an uncertain future.
All that stress finally explodes into Abby and AJ’s first big fight, with Kel briefly moving in as collateral damage. There’s sweet, surprising chemistry between Abby and Kel, but by the end, everyone’s just scrambling back to whatever version of chaos feels most familiar.
Episodes 6 and 7 of Mindy Kaling’s Not Suitable for Work hit such a fun groove. These are two half-hours that are actually laugh-out-loud funny and still grounded in real emotional stakes. This week, the Murray Hill crew hits some big turning points, secret relationships crack, career risks go sideways, and everyone’s living situation gets a whole lot messier.
What really works here is how confidently the show leans into classic sitcom chaos. From Kel’s doomed attempt to flee his roommates to the AJ and Bill’s office romance, Kaling is in full command of the comedy. The plot moves quickly, but the humor is so rooted in character that it never feels shallow. Overall, I give these episodes an 8/10.
