Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (S1, Ep. 10) "Queens" Season Finale

Sometimes a finale doesn't just wrap up a season, it completely changes everything you thought you knew.

Apple TV's Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed sticks the landing with a season finale that is both emotionally satisfying and brilliantly unsettling. "Queens" resolves several major storylines; from Paula finally winning her custody battle to the mystery surrounding the elusive Assassin, while delivering one last twist that completely redefines the season and sets the stage for an even darker future. If this is the foundation for a second season, count me in.

The finale picks up immediately after Episode 9's explosive cliffhanger. Paula survives the violent confrontation at the golf retreat, clears her name, and is officially exonerated of the murder charges that have haunted her throughout the season. Even the long-running Assassin storyline takes an unexpected turn, as the mysterious killer is revealed to be alive, only to be eliminated by his own employers to erase any loose ends.

The emotional centerpiece, however, belongs in the courtroom. Paula's custody battle with Karl and Mallory reaches its long-awaited conclusion, and Maslany delivers a powerhouse performance as Paula fights for the chance to keep her daughter, Hazel. It's an emotionally charged sequence that perfectly captures Paula's vulnerability, determination, and resilience, and easily stands as the episode's standout moment.

Just when it appears Paula has finally reclaimed her life, the finale pulls the rug out from under both her and the audience. A chilling video from her past reveals that the death of her former neighbor wasn't an accident at all, and the shadowy Souter Group uses the footage to blackmail her into becoming their newest pawn. In an instant, Paula realizes she hasn't escaped the conspiracy, she's only been pulled deeper into it.

Tatiana Maslany once again proves why she's one of television's finest performers, delivering an Emmy-worthy performance that anchors every twist, emotional beat, and revelation. Combined with sharp writing, escalating tension, and a finale that rewards viewers while opening the door to even bigger stories, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed closes its first season on a remarkably high note. This is one of Apple TV+'s best new dramas of the year, and here's hoping it earns a well-deserved second season. If this finale is any indication, Paula's story is only getting started. Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.
