Furious (S1, Ep. 7) "Some Days It Don't Come Easy"

Sometimes justice means crossing a line you swore you never would.

The penultimate episode of Furious brings its tangled web of secrets, trauma, and corruption dangerously close to the breaking point. “Some Days It Don’t Come Easy” does an excellent job setting the stage for the finale, particularly as Alice recovers from Catherine’s attack while becoming more determined than ever to find her. But instead of simply hunting Catherine down, Alice makes a shocking decision: she allows her to remain free, knowing exactly where she is headed next.

The episode also deepens the increasingly complicated relationship between Alice and Danny, while Danny’s discovery of evidence connecting Jay Easton to Alice’s own traumatic past raises the personal stakes considerably. The Easton family storyline is equally disturbing, with Hope Davis delivering a terrific performance as Emma, a woman who has spent years protecting her father and covering up the horrific reality behind his “hobby.” Her confrontation with Jay over the hidden evidence is one of the episode’s most uncomfortable and compelling moments.

What makes this episode work so well is how every storyline feels like it's converging on the same inevitable collision. Alice realizes that the justice system may never truly hold Easton accountable, while Catherine is finally positioned to deliver the revenge she has been building toward all season. That final sequence, set to Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” is an especially effective way to send the story into its finale. Catherine walking toward Easton’s house leaves no doubt that something explosive is coming. Furious has spent the season building toward this moment, and after this episode, the finale can't come soon enough. Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.
