Sometimes the hardest part of being partners isn't solving the mystery—it's figuring out whether you can trust the person beside you.
“Trust Fall” keeps Lanterns’ strong momentum going, expanding the mystery surrounding Rushville while giving Hal Jordan and John Stewart more room to develop as partners. Hal settles comfortably into the wise-cracking, experienced detective role, poking around Rushville and slowly realizing that something much bigger is happening beneath the town's strange behavior. Meanwhile, John finds himself pulled into a dangerous situation that reveals just how serious the alien threat really is. The episode does a great job balancing the larger sci-fi mystery with the mentor-mentee relationship at the center of the series.
Kyle Chandler continues to be a standout, bringing plenty of humor and personality to Hal without taking away from the character's experience as a Green Lantern. Aaron Pierre also shines as John, particularly as he begins to find his confidence and decide whether he can actually trust Hal. Their relationship feels like it's developing naturally, and the episode's title becomes increasingly appropriate as the two are forced to rely on each other. Kelly Macdonald also gets some intriguing material as Sheriff Kerry Kane, including a fun reveal about her connection to Gotham. And yes, that immediately raises the question: could Kerry have some connection to Kate Kane, aka Batwoman?
The episode's biggest strength, though, is how it expands the mystery without giving away too much. The introduction of the Manhunter threat adds another layer to the conspiracy, while the final appearance of Sinestro delivers a terrific cliffhanger. His warning about John puts the partnership we've just watched develop in a completely different light.
Lanterns continues to prove that its greatest strength may be the chemistry between its two leads. Now the question is whether Hal and John can solve the mystery before their growing partnership becomes the very thing that puts them in danger. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
