If the Season 3 premiere signaled the return of Lioness, Episode 2 confirms that the series has no intention of slowing its momentum.
“No Sorrow Like the Survivor” significantly raises the stakes, alternating between Joe’s harrowing kidnapping in the present and the devastating consequences of her mission six months earlier.
Zoe Saldaña once again elevates Joe’s character, particularly as she comes to terms with the reality that the work she has long kept separate from her family has finally reached them. Watching Joe confront the aftermath of killing two men who targeted her, and seeing her family forced into protective isolation, adds substantial emotional depth to the action, making the narrative feel increasingly personal and grounded.
The present-day interrogation sequences are equally gripping, as Joe is stripped of her usual authority and compelled to confront the extent of her captors’ knowledge about her operations. Meanwhile, Michael Kelly delivers another compelling performance as Byron Westfield, most notably during a tense dinner scene that underscores the growing complexity of the political ramifications.
Two episodes into the season, Lioness is moving forward with strong momentum, balancing action, political intrigue, and character-driven drama. If this trajectory continues, the series is poised for what could be its most accomplished season to date. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
