Let's take a moment to recap the exciting highlights from episodes three and four of St. Denis Medical!
"Weird Stuff You Can't Explain"
When a patient decides to postpone their surgery so they can keep their cherished religious cross by their side, Ron takes a moment to ponder the beautiful relationship between spirituality and science. In a light-hearted attempt to bring some fun to the day, Ron playfully casts a harmless hex on the hospital, which triggers some unexpected, yet amusing, happenings. Dr. Taylor, the surgeon, finds herself in a bit of a pickle when she gets bitten by a rather pesky snake during her jog, while Nurse Angie deals with a case of pink eye, which Ron jokingly blames on her not washing her hands well enough! And let's not forget about Bruce, who inadvertently hurts his fingers while helping Val bring in the patient's stunning cross.
With Bruce taking a break, Ron is the sole surgeon to handle the procedure. The surgery kicks off smoothly, but to everyone’s surprise, it takes an unexpected turn, prompting him to spring into action to manage the bleeding. Just before he starts, he takes a touching moment to pray, and Serena notices this heartfelt gesture.
Meanwhile, with Alex’s influence, Bruce has developed a newfound interest in horoscopes, which drives Alex a bit crazy! When Joyce connects with Chaplin Steve during a session with a patient, Matt starts to question his credentials and makes a point that Chaplin Steve isn't a genuine Chaplin. After parting ways with Steve, Matt addresses the gap left by the Chaplin until Joyce thinks it over and decides to bring Steve back, with the understanding that he’ll need to attend divinity school on his own time, which he is more than willing to do.
"Weird "Stuff You Can't Explain" was a delightful episode filled with humor and heartwarming moments. David Alan Grier delivered a fantastic performance as his character navigated the concept of faith, showing that he genuinely believes in his own way. The story between Bruce and Alex had me laughing out loud! Plus, I really enjoyed Erin Hayes as Dr. Taylor; even though she wasn't in every scene, her humor shone through, and I can't wait to see more of her in the series! Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
"Salamat You Too"
When Alex attempts to add her sample to the schedule, it sparks a bit of trouble with the tough crowd of the Emergency Department, especially Rene (played by Nico Santos). With Matt's assistance, things don't initially go as planned, and it gets even trickier when Alex tries to explain the importance of following orders and being respectful. However, a change of heart occurs when Rene discovers more about Alex's salary and family life, leading him to become supportive and willingly follow her lead in caring for the patients.
In the meantime, Serena is on a little quest to uncover who left her a note about parking from Ron. When Ron finally admits to it, she forgives him and decides to move on. However, Ron struggles to let go and bumps into Serena's car. After chatting with Joyce about the situation, Serena suggests a clever way to get back at Ron by parking three ambulances around his vehicle. Nice one, Serena!
When Bruce shines as the spotlight employee at St. Denis, Joyce needs to consider someone else to feature for the next quarter. However, Bruce is eager to get another chance. As Joyce thinks it over, she finds herself leaning toward Alex and Ron, especially before all the wild drama unfolds in the episode. In the end, though, she chose Bruce for his thoughtful words of wisdom, even if they were borrowed from Keith.
"Salamat You Too" brought so many laughs, even with its awkward moments, especially between Alex and Rene. Alex tries her best, even if things don't go as planned. With Matt by her side, it becomes a delightful mix of hilarious and challenging adventures! I especially enjoyed the playful tension between Serena and Ron—who could forget that breakfast taco incident that got Ron all riled up? And I absolutely adore watching Joyce as she hunts for the next spotlight feature employee. The way she views them through her "turd glasses" is just too funny!
Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
