It's the penultimate episode of One Chicago before the season finale! What events will occur that will carry into the finale? Here's a recap!
Chicago Med "Baby Mine..."
Things heat up in this week's episode of Chicago Med as Maggie and Frost help a child who's suffering from cystic fibrosis, whose health has taken a turn for the worse, and needs a set of lungs, which are ready for him. More on him later.
Meanwhile, at Charles' mother's funeral, Robin and Anne make a surprise return to support their father in his time of need. After Charles gives an emotional speech, he notices that Anna's luggage has a ticket that says she arrived back in April, and he learns from her that she quit Stanford.
Ripley, who is doing double duty as a babysitter with Nate for Lynne, takes on a case involving a billionaire's child who is suffering from cancer. Still, when he and a surgeon suggest nothing to do, the billionaire doesn't buy it and gets opinions from other doctors.
Archer and Lenox help treat her brother, who shows signs of motor function. Maybe he has what their parents had, but he won't anticipate the testing for it. That is, until Lenox, who has been assisting Howard with the Hayes sexual assault complaint, gains the upper hand from Howard and informs her brother that she's also getting tested.
Speaking of Howard, she wasn't too happy with the Hayes situation from Lenox and Goodwin. However, after listening to one of the nurses talk about the problem, she had the idea to let everyone speak up about it and tell the Tribune. Of course, the Med board wasn't too pleased, but whatever takes Hayes down, right?
Two shocking moments come near the end: One as Frost and Maggie's patient is set to get the lung transplant, news of the surgery being canceled, which shocks them both, along with Ripley, as they learn that the Billianore made her child the priority of getting those lungs. Two: Asher receives a call back about the surrogacy, which they tell her she can't be due to something they found...she's pregnant.
"Baby Mine..." was a fantastic episode from start to finish! It included intense cases alongside touching moments, especially when Charles opened up about his complex yet understanding relationship with his mother. It was great to see Robin and Anne again—it's been too long. It was truly an emotional moment.
Lenox's opening up to her brother this season highlights her character development, and it’s exciting to think about how things will unfold as they explore their family’s genetic medical history together! Although somewhat predictable, the two medical cases from Frost and Ripley set up an exciting and intense cliffhanger for the season finale! From the promo, we could see a standoff between dads in the ED. Plus, we have the shocking news that Asher is pregnant (with Ripley's baby). Oh my! Will she share this surprise with Rip? I can't wait to see how this unfolds!
Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
Chicago Fire "The Bad Guy"
When 51 is called to a car fire, the unfortunate victim turns out to be Franklin, the man involved in the tragic accident that claimed Monica's life. While Franklin’s condition remains uncertain at Med, Severide takes the initiative to collaborate with OFI to uncover the truth behind the accident, suspecting it may have been staged. Is it possible that Pascal had a hand in this?
Severide can’t help but think of one who might have orchestrated this: Bishop. However, when he consults Bishop about it, he learns that he should investigate his Chief and the reasons behind his departure from Miami. He delves into this inquiry and discovers that Pascal had assisted his Chief, who is connected to the mod, in a fire investigation. Eventually, Pascal opens up to Severide about his motivations, explaining that his actions were driven by a desire to help Monica. Still, by then, the Feds had already caught wind of his Chief’s involvement.
Meanwhile, Herrmann feels a bit anxious about asking Pascal for a letter of recommendation for the chief exam. However, Pascal surprised him by agreeing to help and hinting that he might take on the job sooner rather than later—if Herrmann decides to go for it. On another note, Kidd takes Rachel to her mother's place in St. Louis, which feels strange. After dropping her off, Kidd returns to find a tearful Rachel, discovering that her mother has moved to Florida without saying a word. And it seems like Violet is single again after breaking things off with Flynn due to his suggestion that she consider becoming a doctor. Ouch! It’s even more complicated since she admits to being in love with Carver, only to realize he won't be around next season.
Following Severide's conversation with Pascal, he catches up with Vale, who has been a supportive friend to Monica and was unfortunately punched by Pascal earlier this season. Severide asks Vale if he can explain why Monica returned to Chicago. After sharing that Pascal is truly a committed firefighter, Severide receives an unexpected call from Cruz informing him that Pascal has been arrested. When Severide returns to Firehouse 51, he finds Pascal handcuffed and escorted out by the police alongside Van Meter.
"The Bad Guy" was such a fantastic episode that sets the stage for what promises to be another thrilling season finale! We finally get some answers about Pascal and his move from Miami to Chicago, and it’s heartwarming to see him lower his guard. His conversation with Severide truly showcased a powerful side of his character, especially since he can sometimes come off as cold-blooded. Plus, witnessing him give Herrmann the letter of recommendation was a nice touch, even though he couldn’t resist making his usual cold comment about being ready for the Chief job. I think we'll see Kidd adopt Rachel by the season finale. That story was so emotional and made these two bonds so important. These two seem to fit, right?
Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
Chicago P.D. "Open Casket"
Honestly, when it comes to penultimate episodes, Chicago P.D. really knows how to build anticipation for a thrilling season finale!
As Voight and the team get closer to uncovering Reid's connection to Otero, they believe they've found an opening by involving Otero's son, who, by the way, was unfortunately caught stealing his dad's drugs (not the best choice, kiddo! It's pretty surprising to see someone steal from their own parent!). When they capture Otero's son, they cleverly use the situation to persuade Otero to help them take down Reid. The operation initially seems to go off without a hitch, but it takes an unexpected turn. By the time we see Otero and Reid discussing the stolen money (thanks to the hilarious antics of Atwater and Ruze), everything appears to be falling into place...
That is, until the team is on high alert, waiting for Reid and his crew to make a move with the getaway car they had stashed away. Three long hours pass without any action, leading to mounting frustration. Just when Voight decides to check the video footage, he discovers that Otero's associate has been working alongside Reid. This prompts Voight to rush over to Otero's house, only to find the place ransacked and smeared with blood, but sadly, no Otero in sight. It turns out a van had come and taken Otero, and as luck would have it, once they finally pinpoint the van's location, they shockingly uncover Otero's body buried underground. It’s a tense moment! Things are really spiraling out of control for Voight and the team, and by the end of the episode, the situation worsens even further when Reid arrives to arrest Torres and Burgess for their questionable decisions: Torres for crossing the line with a CI and Burgess for helping to cover it up.
"Open Casket" delivered an amazing hour of television filled with thrills and intense moments! The face-to-face encounter between Reid and Voight at the end truly hints that the season finale is going to be a must-watch. Once we really start to understand Reid, it becomes clear that there’s something intriguing about him. It’s fascinating how his connection to Otero, along with those complicated ties to the events in Detroit, makes him seem like such a prominent figure compared to Voight, don’t you think? I couldn’t help but feel chills when I saw Voight watching the team unearth Otero from the ground; it really brought to mind the Gallos and everything that Voight had done before.
With the Burzek wedding planned for the season finale, will the events occur at the beginning or end of the episode? I would love for a happy ending to a season, but I'm hoping there's a good cliffhanger as well.
Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.
