Poker Face "The Taste of Human Blood"

When a well-known cop meets a tragic end by being eaten by his own alligator, could it be an accident, or is there a more sinister twist at play? Let's dive into a recap of episode four of Poker Face!

When Officer Fran (played by Gabby Hoffman), who is beloved by her community and peers, is nominated for Officer of the Year at the FlodaCopla (a cop festival), she loses to Officer Joe (played by Kumail Nanjiani), who rescues a baby alligator, Dasiy. However, this doesn't bother her until Joe, now a hit social media sensation known as Gator Joe, wins his seventh award in a row, which annoys Fran.

When Fran tries to prank him, she puts some of his gator laxative into his energy drink. He not only runs to the bathroom but also dies while on the toilet, as Fran gave him too large a dose. She took his alligator, Daisy, and gave her some drugs that made her go crazy and eat him as well.

That's where we meet Charlie, who is trying to find a place to go and makes a buddy on the radio, Good Buddy (voiced by Steve Buscemi). Later, Charlie finds herself at an alligator camp, where she works with a group of people who want her to help rescue Joe's alligator, whom they believe Joe has been drugging. She sneaks in as a waiter at the party, discovers the alligator, and attempts to get her out, but is interrupted when Fran pops in.

As Charlie tries to sneak Daisey out, she suddenly hears screams when officers find Daisey with pieces of Joe on the floor. Everyone panics and wants to kill the gator, but Charlie believes the gator couldn't have done it because she felt a close connection. As tensions rise, the gator escapes into a storage closet, where Charlie and Fran sneak Daisey out to the swamps. There, Charlie gets the truth from Fran about how she killed Joe, and Fran tries to turn herself in, but her boss won't allow it because it's just a fictional story.

"The Taste of Human Blood" turned out to be a wonderfully entertaining episode, showcasing the fantastic performances of Hoffman and Nanjiani. Hoffman does a brilliant job as she shifts from a commendable police officer to one grappling with jealousy, really making us feel for her character's emotional struggles. Plus, Charlie's radio banter with Good Buddy brought me so much joy!

I would be thrilled to watch an entire episode just focused on that delightful exchange. One tiny hiccup for me was that when Fran finally meets with Charlie, it felt a bit confusing. In the first part of the episode, we see Fran in the Green Room looking upset, but we never get to see Charlie until he enters later, which made that transition feel a bit off. Did you get that feeling too?

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
