One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "Together One Last Time"/Chicago Fire "Post-Mortem"/Chicago P.D. "Demons"

In the latest gripping episodes of One Chicago, emotions run high as characters confront heart-wrenching decisions and unexpected challenges. Here's a recap!

Chicago Med "Together One Last Time"

This week's episode highlights Ripley's exciting first day back at work! He joins forces with Frost to assist a child who has come in after a snake bite. As they seek the best treatment, Frost notices that the child's parents use social media to guide their decisions, which frustrates him. Things take a surprising turn when the father returns with the snake, but oh no! It vanishes in the ED! Don’t worry, though—Dr. Howard is on the case and quickly locates it.

In the meantime, Lenox and Charles teamed up to support a couple who used to be married. The ex-husband is facing surgery, but the ex-wife has been behaving a bit oddly towards him and the staff in the ED. After Charles takes some time to examine her, he discovers that she’s experiencing dementia. However, after the ex-husband comes through his surgery successfully, he learns about her condition and makes a heartfelt marriage proposal to her.

Asher and her sister share some truly special moments as they prepare for the arrival of her child. However, something feels off, prompting Asher to take her sister to the E.D. While Asher and Archer are conducting an examination, they both realize sadly that there's no heartbeat, and gently let her sister know that she has lost the baby. During surgery, Asher and Archer are faced with a difficult choice: to honor her sister's wishes or to prioritize her life, a decision that weighs heavily on Asher's heart.

On her last day in the E.D., Howard takes on her most challenging case yet, a patient with more frequent flyer mileage than any other patient. While trying to make a proper diagnosis, it seemed to stump her, but after a chat with Lenox, Howard found the condition, which no other doctor has figured out until now. Also, she got an awesome surprise going-away party, E.D. style (feel bad for anyone who has to eat Dorris' cakes).

"Together One Last Time" distinctly emerged as an exceptional installment from its inception to conclusion, abundant with poignant moments that genuinely resonate, exemplified by the scene where Asher and her sister confront brutal realities, encompassing discussions surrounding the loss of the baby and the challenging decision she was compelled to make contrary to her sister's preferences. Even though Asher's sister might feel upset, I believe she’ll understand Asher's intentions were all in the name of love, and it’s so heartwarming to see them reconnect after all these years.

And oh, can we talk about Ripley and Asher’s breakup? That was possibly one of the most understated conversations I've witnessed! Honestly, I was puzzled about whether it was a breakup when he walked away. But for all of you Asher-Archer fans out there, fingers crossed we see these two find their way back to each other by the end of the season!

Frost's personal development has progressed as he determines the appropriate course of action regarding his relationship with his former co-star. He may have experienced a pivotal realization upon conversing with Dr. Charles, who was merely inquiring about his well-being.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.6/10.

Chicago Fire "Post-Mortem"

When Deputy Commissioner Boden is asked to investigate the firefight involving Firehouse 51, which injured one of its members, who is to blame?

If you're looking to dive into a fantastic episode that shines with stellar writing, incredible performances, and top-notch directing, this is definitely the one to watch! Not only does it bring our beloved Boden back to the screen, but it also features a gripping episodic event that portrays an unfortunate incident that leaves a firefighter severely injured.

From the commencement of the investigation, you endeavored to stay engaged with each instance in which Stella, Kelly, Herrmann, and Pascel communicated with Boden regarding the unfolding events. It provides compelling moments and evokes both chills and thrills simultaneously. This episode felt like part one of a two-part crossover event with Chicago PD. When are we going to get one of those crossovers, guy?

But as Boden pieced together each second and minute of the events during that call, the shocking part was who got hurt after everyone made it out until the rescue call sounded. Who was it? Well, it was no other than Damon who got hurt, pretty badly. This is after a mishap of miscounting the firefighters in the house as they tried to evacuate. But when Boden gets his report in, the board still doesn't know who or what caused this rescue to go bad. That is, until Boden tells him it's in the report that it was the faulty equipment and lack of area support, like cops blocking the street.

I greatly appreciated this episode; it is the season's finest installment thus far. The writing was exceptional, the performances by the cast were commendable, and several intensely dramatic moments involving Boden and Pascal evoked a strong emotional response. Additionally, the direction of this episode was of crossover-level excellence.

Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.

Chicago P.D. "Demons"

As Voight and Chapman dig deeper into investigating Deputy Chief Reid on his shadow dealings, which later gets Voight and the Intelligence to help Reid investigate a missing car that was stolen, which happens to have drugs in it.

Throughout the investigation, Voight tries his best to hide the real reason for the investigation from the team, but you can't keep Burgess from her special skills, right? She finally confronts Voight about it after getting a confession from the suspect who stole the car. Voight tells them that he and Chapman are digging into Reid's past to take him down, but that they shouldn't help due to the power and connections he has, for which they don't care and help anyway.

At the end, Chapman pays a visit to Voight and curiously asks him how he managed to get a confession from the suspect. Voight candidly shares that he had to threaten him. She expresses her hope that he understands the importance of knowing where to draw the line. In response, he admits that he doesn't, but insists that if Reid wants the job done, he’ll need to get it done the way old Hank Voight used to operate, wouldn’t he?

"Demond" offers a fascinating look into the characters Reid and Voight. It's interesting to see how Voight approaches the carjacking and the search for missing drugs by following the rules, while Reid encourages him to use his instincts and experience to get the job done. Although Voight deals with pressure from his superiors to stick to the procedures, it's remarkable to witness Reid urging Voight to leverage his skills in tackling the carjacking and figuring out who did it, no matter what the final outcome might be. As the season wraps up, we sense a thrilling possibility of a tense showdown between Voight and Reid.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.8/10.
