Recap: Ghosts "Halloween 5: The Mummy"

A 3,000-year-old mummy awakens at Woodstone, but he seeks revenge on the family that parted him from his wife. Who are they, and will he succeed in this episode of Ghosts? Here's a recap and review.

When Sam and Jay find a 3,000-year-old mummy purchased in Egypt by Hetty and Elias, they accidentally awaken Amunhotep's spirit after reading the Book of the Dead. Amunhotep reavals he wants revenge on the Woodstone family for separating him from his wife, putting both Sam and Hetty on his hit list even as they try to hide their relation. (Hetty’s funny accent as a distant relative, sounding like Frances McDormand from Fargo, was hilarious).

The secret doesn't last long, though. After Cholera blows Sam and Hetty's cover, Amunhotep summons his dead body to attack Sam, while unleashing swarms of locusts and rats toward the mansion.

Sam and the ghosts quickly devise a plan: find Amunhotep's wife and bring him to her. They succeed, which calls off the locusts and rats. However, Amunhotep might need those plagues back when he learns that his travel companion on his journey to his wife will be Pete, who is eager to discuss Ivan Reitman's movies.

Meanwhile, Nigel seeks help to get Chris back after he was "sucked off." Isaac tries desperately to steer Nigel away from the idea of bringing Chris back, until Sam finally tells Nigel the truth: Chris actually flew away. Isaac then tells Nigel the truth about his departure, and the two seem to reach an understanding. Could their relationship be on the way back?

"Halloween 5: The Mummy" was a highly entertaining and funny Halloween episode that paid homage to the 1999 movie of the Same Name. It was so fun that it makes me want to rewatch the original!

I loved how Sam and Hetty were forced to pretend they weren't related to the Woodstone line. Hetty went all out with her absurd character background and accent, with Rebecca Wisocky delivering a truly brilliant, committed comedic performance. Even at the episode's end, when Trevor asked her to speak with a Philly accent, it was a hilarious highlight. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
