CIA delivers another thrilling episode with “Radio Active,” pairing a race to stop a chemical attack with major developments in the agents’ personal lives. The introduction of Annie Gossage, played by Jane Adams, adds a compelling new dimension to both the investigation and the team.
The episode opens with the suspicious death of a chemical plant inventory supervisor, leading the team to uncover a Syrian terrorist cell’s plan to launch a chemical attack in New York City. When an unbreakable cipher conceals the intended target, Nikki turns to Annie, an exceptionally gifted codebreaker whose severe agoraphobia confines her to her apartment.
Annie is one of the episode’s greatest strengths. Jane Adams balances the character’s intelligence and vulnerability, making her more than a convenient solution to an impossible code. Colin Glass and Bill Goodman work with her to decipher the intelligence, but the mission becomes even more dangerous when attackers arrive at her apartment. Their effort to get Annie to safety adds another layer of tension, and her abilities ultimately help the team stop the attack in time.
The case also drives meaningful character development. Toni’s return to the field creates immediate tension as Nikki limits her responsibilities while Toni works to rebuild trust. Colin remains suspicious of her loyalty, but their unresolved feelings further complicate matters. Their surprise kiss leaves their future uncertain.
Bill faces a more painful conflict after revealing that his father, Robert Goodman, secretly worked for the CIA. Because he deliberately concealed his own assignment from Katie, she questions whether he is repeating his family’s pattern of deception. Her request for space makes clear that their relationship will require more than an apology.
By preventing the attack, the team achieves a professional victory, but the damage to their personal lives remains unresolved. “Radio Active” effectively combines an engaging case with an intriguing new character and consequential relationship developments. Annie brings a fresh dynamic, while the latest revelations threaten to reshape the team’s relationships as the series moves forward. Overall, I give the episode an 8/10.
