The Blacklist Renewed for Season 7

It looks like Raymond Reddington's life will be spared after all.

TVLine has confirmed that NBC has renewed The Blacklist for a seventh season. Deadline, which is TVline sister site, first broke the news, that the core cast that includes James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff and Harry Lennix will all be back for Season 7.

"Congratulations to our amazing producers, cast and crew, all of whom continue to work at the top of their game and make The Blacklist one of NBC's signature series," said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC.

The current season sixth of The Blacklist is currently airing Fridays at 9/8c. In recent outing on March 8th, Reddington pleaded guilty to the numerous criminal charges against him and was sentenced to death- a fate made even more worrying after he failed to escape prison later in the episode. (But with Spader's commitment to Season 7, we can assume that the forthcoming lethal injection doesn't go down as planned.)

The current season is averaging a 0.6 in demo rating and about 4 million total viewers, besting only Blindspot and the already canceled Midnight, Texas among all NBC dramas. The Live+7 DVR playback, those numbers go up to 1.2 and 7.3 million.

Creepy Crawlers: The Blacklist "General Shiro (No. 116)"

Move over Stewmaker (even though you're dead) there's a new Blacklister that's just as creepier! Here's a recap!

There's been a string of murders of highly corporate people dying from deadly bugs that come out of their bodies. Freaky, no? Reddington gives Liz and the task force a name to look into and as they hunt down and as Liz and team learn of that the reason these guys are dying was business of making money and not saving the environment. As Liz and Ressler learn who General Shiro is, they go after him but a bit late when he pulls not only another stunt to the chairman committee but also himself when he is arrested.  But Dembe gets help from Liz to look into Shiro's office for a file that could help Reddington.

Meanwhile, Reddington tries to stay afloat when it's time to pick the jury for the trial. Trying what he can, Red gets Dembe to ask Glenn for help but turns out Glenn would be the lord and savior for Red. But after what seemed to fight for him to stay on the jury, Glenn messes it up and gets dismessed. Thanks, Jelly Bean! Now looks like the fate of Red could be the end is near unless he can get something going with whatever Shiro had in the file.

I very much enjoyed this episode from the beginning to the end. The deadly bug thing was not only creepy but so awesome. But it was during the jury finding began to get intense with nervousness, mostly coming from Glenn when he came in. As much as I could say those were my favorite moment of the episode, there were more from Red and Cooper smoking cigars and chatting, Dembe telling Red that he's screwed but Red tells him to keep the faith, and the talk between Liz and Dembe near the end which gave me chills beyond words. Any chance that Dembe knows what Liz knows? Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Blacklist this Friday with a two-hour episode event beginning at 8/7c on NBC.

Changing Point: The Blacklist "The Ethicist (No. 91)"

With Reddington getting mental tested, will Liz get a step closer to who Reddington really is or not? Here's a recap!

With Reddington moved to Springfield for a psychological evaluation, Liz takes this opportunity to hunt down one man that knows Reddington and gets the FBI task force to hunt him down. The Ethicist is one blacklister that can work out the details in any situation and when he works with someone with a flavor, he gets caught by Liz and has a chat about not only his past history as another person.

As Liz and Jennifer demand answers, but he would only tell her if he hands him his gun. As soon as he gives him the gun, he gives the name "Marguerite Renard." Liz finds Marguerite, she'll learn about Reddington. And as soon as she leaves, The Ethicist kills himself.

Meanwhile, Reddington asked the judge for a psych exam as he's got the right to have one. As soon as the judge agrees, Red is taken to a faculty in Springfield where he not only is tested but meets with a familiar face, who happens to be heavily medicined. As he whines down the meds, he tries to get him to talk about getting help but could only get one name, "General Shiro." Red couldn't get any more out of him because of attacking the therapist.

As the therapist talks to Red and gave him her opinion that he can stand trial, she notices something about him that he could be someone else instead of who he says he is, which says a lot, right? But Red goes back to New York and gets ready for trial, but as soon as he gets back to jail, he contacts Dembe that there's some work to be done.

"The Ethicist" is strong and probably one of my favorite episodes so far. We finally get to see Liz cross that line of trust with her task force. From lying to Cooper and team about Red wanting them to hunt the Ethicist to even demanding information about Reddington to the blacklister as the task force is coming in and lets him kill himself. The one problem I had and it's really the beginning of the episode when we see the soon to be a client of the Ethicist hit someone in the middle of the night. The whole scene was too damn dark and hard to see if it really was a kid or someone older. Otherwise, I thought the episode was good after that. Strong writing and character development. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Believe in Fate: The Blacklist "Alter Ego (No. 131)"

Can Red win both his case and one of his associates? Here's a recap!

With one of Red's associates in panic mode because of being in jail, they could vote him out of their business. But when that associate is found dead, Red gets Liz and the FBI to hunt down the person that did this or things would look bad on his end with his business.

As Liz and the task force took on the case, they discover that the associate's will gives all the money and businesses to his son, who he never had met before. Liz and Ressler interview him, along with his friends and girlfriend. But something wasn't right and saw that his girlfriend was lying on who she is after seeing getting married to another man.

They later got information that she, along with the so-called friends of the associate's son, are in fact working together as alter egos for people that need a plus one when they are not in a relationship. But the twist comes from the friends when they were the ones that falsified the associate's will for his son, that he never knew to get the money and business and later kill him to get the money. But Ressler and Liz get there in time to stop, with Liz having some badass elevator fight.

Meanwhile, Red fights for his life in court once again. As he challenges the search and that the only reason why was because he pissed off the cop. Even challenging to listen to the 911 tape, but was denied by the judge as she got to listen to it. In the end, the judge agrees that the search was misused but adds that the gun would be admitted to evidence because of breaking his immunity agreement.

But in the end, Red learned that his associate wasn't murdered because of Red. But also that the associate's son gave his approval to keep Red in business. And after talking with Liz, he tells her that he'll find the person that turned him in and get revenge.

"Alter Ego" was one hell of an episode. From the case of the week that was very interesting to Red representing himself in court was one hour of television at it's best. And just when you thought Red was going to be set free, he's not and the trail continues because of carrying a gun position that was a volition of his agreement. But it left with one of the best scenes at the end when he tells Liz that he'll find out who made that 911 call and seek his revenge on them. It left a real chilling moment.

Not to mention Dembe given Red that he needs to have faith when it comes to good things. Yeah, the associate's death wasn't anything to do with Red but fate was cut short at the end in court. And Ressler's wedding date problem was not only funny but really good for character development. For a second I thought that he was going to ask Liz to go because there was a moment with the way they looked at each other.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Defend with No Fear: The Blacklist "The Pharmacist (No. 124)"/"The Pawnbrokers (146/147)"

"The Pharmacist (No. 124)"

As Red is being prosecuted, he gives Liz another blacklister, Dr. Stark, a bio-scientist, who's in need of help after reports of an unauthorized human trial for MCDD has killed people. Liz and the team learn that Stark is not aware that his assistant is the one ruining the trails because of another company in competition. Later Dembe asked to see Dr. Stark and talked to him about his deal with Reddington.

Meanwhile, Reddington goes alone to defend himself and pulls a big move of letting the judge that he has an agreement with the FBI. After things were looking good for Red, it turns out that he vailed the terms by of the FBI agreement and is taken into jail for a small time till another hearing is scheduled.

"The Pharmacist" was a very good and interesting episode. The blacklister of the week wasn't as thrilling like others but it was interesting to see that one isn't what you would call a killer, but a man trying to find a cure. Also, I think he might be apart of something for Reddington down the road. The trail was one that I couldn't get enough of and boy was it a thrill. Even though I knew Red was going to jail one way or another, but the way it was going it looked like he was going to go free. Good writing along with a strong performance from Spader that remains me of his character from The Practice and Boston Legal.

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Image result for the blacklist the pawnbrokers

"The Pawnbrokers (No. 146/147)"

Red is in jail and is making some friends, while Liz and the task force deal with a couple that has something that they shouldn't. Here's a recap!

As Red is settling in jail, he quickly strikes enemies with Alfonso, as they threaten to kill him. But Red doesn't fear them and finds a way to get in touch with Dembe; getting help from a rat and the prison sewer pipes. While there Red makes friends with a young kid, who becomes a bit of his right-hand assistant. But as the day came instead of fighting, Red speaks to everyone about why Alfonso is in jail and it wasn't for killing anyone. Soon Alfonso gets word that he's been released and later gets killed from the boss that he cheated on.

Meanwhile, the blacklisters of the week happen to be a married couple, who owns a pawnshop and takes in stuff that no other pawnshops take exchange for loans. Liz and the task force sends in Samar undercover to retrieve highly confidential information. But just as Samar gets it, they are all both ambushed by the Chinese but stops them just before they get to the embassy.

And Jennifer and Liz found what is their biggest lead to Reddington's past so far; thanks to the computer tech, once he gave it another shot.

"The Pawnbrokers" is such a brilliant episode and is one that defines that this show still has teeth for their characters. Just watching Reddington being put into a different environment still has its thrills and enjoyment. The performance was very good and the writing was as good as it could be. The slowly growing Jennifer and Liz storyline is making me want to see more and more happen. The intense is really killing me.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Enemy or Hero? The Blacklist "The Corsican (No.20)" Season Premiere, Part 2

Part two of the two-part season premiere of The Blacklist get Liz to ask the question is Red is a good man or a bad man. But it leaves with the biggest twist of all this season.

As Red gets a tip of The Corsican for Liz and the FBI that he's going to bomb the United Nations building passing as someone that is delivering a suitcase to a diplomat. Trying to locate him getting there, Liz and Ressler locate the suitcase but The Corsican is gone in the wind. Donald gets to him in a stalemate but he escapes after shooting a hostage.

While Liz is with the bomb, Red brings a familiar face, who happens to supply the bomb to the Corsican, Maxwell. As Maxwell gets ready to open the case, intense builds at every second. As Maxwell stops the bomb, Red is at the UN General Assembly given one of the greatest speeches in 2019, that was a remark on the history of films and even the cold war.

But when Liz comes in to tell him about the bomb has been stopped, she continues to think of the idea that maybe Reddington that we see isn't all that bad but good as he once again saves people from danger.  Later she calls Jennifer to tell her that they should take a step back, but Jennifer isn't ready to and tells her that they need to see this through.

As Red, Dembe, and Maxwell leave to get some salted pretzels, Red gets confronted by a street police officer asking for his ID but soon arrested him and learns that he's Raymond Reddington. Not only does the Task Force is in shock, but Liz as well and they try to get Red out of custody but since it's an election year, the attorney general isn't dropping it (because she's running for Governor).

Liz visits him and tries to get him to tell about his agreement, but he tells her that someone has betrayed him, someone, close and tells her to look for that person. But when Liz and Jennifer celebrate with a drink, it's Liz that admits that she's the one that betrayed Red and gets emotional about what he could be facing that includes the death penalty. But Jennifer isn't that emotional.

As Liz makes her remarks, Reddington is taken to jail as the Attorney General talks to the press about how she'll hold Red to everything accountable.

This episode, again, amazing, incredible, and just pure shocking moment that really had my heart sunk to the ground at the end of the episode. Megan Boone really shines in this episode like I thought she would this season from Part One of the season premiere. You couldn't even read her with her questioning whether she's gonna to do something to Reddington or not. And what I thought was it was going to be Jennifer that pulled the trigger, even after Liz tells her that she wants to back down because she thinks Reddington is a good man. Boy, was I played.

Does anyone feel that during the final scenes of the episode that it felt like a bit like when Liz was going to jail? Oh man, this is going to one hell of a season, but I don't think that Reddington will be in jail for a long time, I give it at least a few weeks, maybe a month or two.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Blacklist on it's new home Fridays at 9/8c on NBC.

Fire and Fury: The Blacklist "Dr. Hans Koehler (No. 33)" Season Premiere, Part 1

Thursday night aired part one of the season premiere of The Blacklist, and it seems that Liz will bring fire and fury to Reddington. Here's a recap!

The premiere opened up like any classic Blacklist opening, a group of robbers coming into the bank to rob but also ruined Reddington's plan to rob the place, too, and not only got what he wanted but took the robbers out as well. But as soon as they escape, he dumps the robbers out like trash onto the street and escapes but returns what he stole and informs the banker to return this priceless painting that happened to be stolen.

Liz and Jennifer discuss what they think and should do about how to expose Reddington for what he has done to their birth father. Of course, to Jennifer, this becomes a bonding time with Liz because she has no one else. They come to the idea of looking into the house where they were at one time or another, not to mention the place where Liz shot her father. They talked to the local sheriff about questions and planned to look up records of anyone hurt.

In the meantime, Red gives Liz and the Task Force case to look for Dr. Hans Koehler, one of the finest plastic surgeons who helped change faces, even helped Reddington. But Ressler doesn't think they should work with Red after the events in the fall finale. Liz wanted to continue working and tried looking for Koehler, but Koehler was working on someone who happened to shoot him and his team after he was done.

Red and Liz find the location where Koehler is and find his body, but he tells Red something that happens to do with a disk drive of all the names of his clients. Of course, Red got it an easier one; he's out of the list. Liz, who's acting cool, isn't doing much so when asking about Reddington's secrets, and they get into another argument about telling each other the truth.

But they know who the guy is that shot Koehler and tries to capture him but escape. He's Casein Moreau, also known as The Corsican, an assassin. But something tells me that we'll be seeing him again soon.

Also not to mention, Samar is released from the hospital but doesn't seem to be all there and not the Samar that we know. There were times when she had to think some things over, like Dembe congratulating her on her and Aram's engagement. Keep an eye out for her.

Overall, I thought that the premiere episode was indeed thrilling and intense at times, mainly between Liz and Reddington. Ever since that scene where Liz and Jennifer are talking about taking Reddington down, my heart pumped throughout the episode, wondering what will happen. Also, the first meeting between Liz and Red was chilling as well, but the hold of each other hands was a bit touching and scary, too. As much as there was the strong character development of Liz through last season and this season, I think that Megan Boone could shine this season, unlike any other season.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Part 2 of the season premiere of The Blacklist Friday, Jan. 4 at 9/8c with an encore of Thursday's episode at 8/7c, too, on NBC.
