My Top 5 Television Shows of 2020

Let's face it, we can't wait to get 2020 out of our sites. But when there's so much bad in 2020, there's much good that has to come with it, mainly with television. This year saw so much content to watch and with the end of the year, here are my top five television shows of 2020.

5. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC)

While this show's premise felt like one of those comedies that seemed cheesy at first, but it's wasn't what I had expected as we see the main character Zoey, who's the power to see's people's true feelings through song. While we see the love-triangle and workplace, it was the story of her ailing father that left an ending enough to grab tissues.

I highly recommend watching this before Season two premieres in January.

4. Perry Mason (HBO)

I'll admit that I knew going into this series that it wasn't going to be my grandparent's Perry Mason and while some people had an issue with it, I thought it was a brilliant limited series. Matthey Rhys was brilliant in portraying Perry Mason in such a different outlook. And not to mention Tatiana Manslany really steals the series, as a preacher of religion church.

Dark and gritty, this was definitely not my grandparent's Perry Mason. I do hope for a season two down the road and the return of Manslany as well.

3. Departure/The Capture (Peacock TV)

These two series that are available on Peacock Streaming Service really won me over this year with brilliant writing and ensemble cast. Both series really kept my interest without any tiredness as while the ending to The Capture wasn't what I had expected it did make a good refection to as to why it went that way. Both shows are to return with a second season.

2. Lovecraft Country (HBO)

The hype was real! For the past few months I've been hearing about this family drama series and when I finally got a chance to watch it during Thanksgiving weekend, it really did live up to the hype that everyone was talking about. The brilliant cast and writing were just one thing but the visual effects and the magic in this series were just mind-blowing.  Could there be a season two? I hope so.

1. Schitt's Creek (PopTV)/The Good Place (NBC)

This decision was as hard to make as any other show on this list. I had been a big fan of both shows since they debuted and with them ending this year they both ended on top and tied as my top shows of the year. Both gave us such a satisfying ending that left us crying and laughing. While I had The Good Place wining outstanding writing at the Emmys, I was in no shock that Schitt's Creek took all the awards as they so deserved so.

An Emotional Goodbye: The Good Place "The Final Chapter: Whenever You're Ready" Series Finale

The Good Place finale review: “Whenever You're Ready” explored ...

Note: I apologize for not writing this up and posting it. It's been almost four months since this aired. And well, let me say that after watching it the first time, it was tough to protect it during the second time because it was so emotionally powerful.

The series finale of The Good Place might be one of the best finale endings in quite a long time, and saying goodbye to these characters is overwhelming emotions. The episode picks up as everyone enjoys their time in A Good Place, from learning ethics to seeing everyone doing their own thing and being happy. The new system looks to work for the best as the Judge learns from Michael and Chidi.

But things took a turn quickly when Justin won the Super Bowl in the video game with his dad, and he felt it was time for him to leave. After throwing a party, Justin walks with Janet to the doors to the universe. Tahani reunited with her sister and learned that their parents had passed the system, but what they had expected wasn't the case with their parents as they showed love and affection. After many moments, she decides she's ready, but instead of leaving, she wants to be like Michael and work as an intern.

Later, Eleanor learns that Chidi is on the verge of wanting to leave and tries to keep him here by taking him to all the places he loves. But Eleanor knows that to be happy, she can't ruin someone's happiness, too. After an emotional and memorable scene of the two at sunset, Chidi leaves Eleanor while sleeping. But a surprise comes when, just as Chidi walks into the door to the universe, Justin pops out to give Janet the necklace he had made for her, and after another moment, he walks with Chidi.

Soon, Eleanor felt it was time; she brought Mindy St.Clare to The Good Place to agree to take the test. She gets the Judge to grant one last favor for Michael; he becomes a real-life boy who goes to Earth and lives out his best life, from learning guitar to cooking a meal in the microwave.

Just before Eleanor leaves, she talks with Janet and has one last drink with her. Soon, she walks into the door to the universe to see her body turn into stars, where one falls to Earth to a man who almost threw out someone's mail but returned it, that happens to be Michael.

"Whenever You're Ready" was one of the best series finales since Parks and Recreation. The finale felt like a natural closure to the series, with the characters deciding to leave or stay and become something else, like Tahani wanting to do what Michael has done. Each character had a memorable moment; the one that stuck was Chidi and Eleanor with that sunset, in which Chidi described the ocean waves. This episode should get an Emmy nomination for best writing. Overall, I give this episode a 10/10, while the season gets a 9.5/10.

You can catch The Good Place on Netflix and Google Play.

Milkshakes and Vacations: The Good Place "Chapter 51: Patty"

Image result for the good place patty
Welcome to The Good Place or is it?

As Eleanor and the gang travel in the air balloon to the Good Place, what they see looks like paradise. As things look amazingly peaceful and warming; Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason go to a party of their own taste that had combined due to entering the portal together. As Jason races gocarts with monkeys, Tahani and Janet meeting with other people; Chidi meets with Hypatia with Eleanor and not only freaks out from talking to one of the great minds. But things aren't what they seem as the gang realizes that the good place is the borning place.

Meanwhile, as Michael thought that he was being sworn in to be a member of The Good Place; but the board members tricked him into signing to be the management of The Good Place. While trying to figure what's going on, Michael, Eleanor, and the gang figure out what to do and that the best thing to do is have the option of knowing that there's a door to the end.

After announcing the plan to the rest of the people that have been around for over five hundred years; everyone had a party and later on Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, Jason, Janet get to live in their Good Place places with Michael making his office close to them. Eleanor and Chidi talk while looking at the sun setting by the mountain as they take-in the moment.

"Patty" was such a great episode that it really felt like it should have been the finale. The performance from the cast was good and the writing was as good as ever. The episode showed that the good place wasn't all that what it seemed; our gang needed to help fix the issues and to provide a solution was good and around out the problem.

But it leaves our characters with when will they go through that door and what will become of them after they go through that door? Is it death? Is it a rebirth of life? This episode would have been an excellent ending; that would have our gang be where they are and had us play out in our minds of what they do after.

I'm pretty anxious, nervous and emotional for this series forking finale. From what I've read in the interviews and such, this could be like the Parks and Recreation finale as it was too a jammed-packed full of emotions and laughs. Move over This Is Us, The Good Place fans will be needing the tissues this week.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch the one-hour series forking finale of The Good Place Thursday, Jan. 30 at 8:30/7:30c and the post-show interview with Seth Meyers at 9:30/8:30c on NBC

"It's so Basic!" The Good Place "Chapter 50: Mondays, Am I Right?"

Image result for the good place mondays am i right

Can Michael get the employees of the wrong place to use his method in the new plan? Is Chidi good for Eleanor? Here's a recap!!

As Michael and the gang meet up with the employees of The Bad Place, Michael tries to get them to come together and follow his method for his new plan. But when some do not like it or do not get it, it takes Vicki to grasp the concept through their heads with some healthy understanding. Even though Michael is upset about Vicki teaching them quicker than him, he learns a lesson that follows his pushing the rock up a hill.

Meanwhile, Eleanor, Chidi, and Jason must find a thousand people that will fit well with the formula so the plan can work from Mr. Rogers and Susan B. Anthony. But when Eleanor sees her file, she jumps to Chidi to not read it, but when she tells him to, Chidi doesn't think he's good for her. Thinking more about it, Jason helps Chidi while Chidi believes he is assisting Jason and gets his confidence back about loving Eleanor.

As the plan seems to be working, the jingle that someone's going to the excellent place comes, and it's Eleanor and the gang going. Michael brings the air balloon for them and goes along with Janet, and as they ride off waving bye to the people of the medium place, Jason yells out Folies.

"Mondays, Am I Right?" was a good and hilarious episode. This was a great Michael episode as he had to deal with Vicki, helping him explain how the new method to the point system works. Hell, I just loved that scene when Tahani was in the VR room and got attacked by a chainsaw bear. That has to be a T-shirt. Why do I feel this is only the calm before the storm as we get to the series finale? We get a Wizard of Oz ending in this episode. Does anyone think we'll get Eleanor to wake up and see Chidi somewhere and go after him?

Anyway, overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place on Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on NBC,

What's the plan, man? The Good Place "Chapter 49: You've Changed, Man"

Image result for the good place you ve changed man

With only minutes to spare, who will Eleanor and team come up with a way to stop the judge from erasing EVERYTHING? Here's a recap!

As soon as Chidi got all of his memories back, showing confidence; he tells Eleanor, Micheal, Tahani and Jason that the best way to stop the judge was to negotiate an idea of a system that would work middle ground to the good and bad place. But just as they tell the board of their idea and agreeing before hearing it, they talk to Shawn and things don't go so well.

Meanwhile, as the Judge looks for her remote to erase the Earth; Janet tries to talk her out of it while they go in Bad Janet and even Disco Janet as well. With no luck of finding it and given a no to Eleanor and Michael's idea; the Judge goes into Janet to find the remote. While there, Janet pulls off a prank but surprises her with a special guest, Timothy Olyphant.

As Shawn was brought in; Eleanor and the team talk about their plan for a system that will work with both groups; but Shawn turns down the idea and goes his merry way of peeing in the water fountain. Michael pulls off one last move to make Shawn agree and just as the Judge finds the remote all of the parties were in agreement but the question relies on how will this work. Chidi?

"You've Changed, Man" was such a good episode. While there were a lot of hilarious moments like Chidi doing things that he's never done like having confidence and not worried at all. And he's got me thinking of eating some warm pretzels. Yummy, yum yum, right?  The Olyphant appearance was fantastic and even though he was in for a few minutes or a scene, it was probably the top three moments of the episode. While Jackson and D'Arcy gave strong performances, Maya Rudolph was amazing as the judge in this episode.

As much as I would love to give my theories to how this will end; I don't have any as I just rather watch and follow the characters with each moment occurring. But I think that this ending will be an emotional one, to say the least. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place tonight at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Chidi the Answer Please! The Good Place "Chapter 48: The Answer" Fall Finale

Image result for the good place the answer

The fall finale of The Good Place asked the question and gives the answer to that question. Here's a recap!

With no time to spare Eleanor get Michael to bring back the original Chidi and to do that Michael will have to put all of Chidi's memories back in the right order. By doing so we see moments of time he comes home after birth to save his parent's marriage from divorce with a counterpoint presentation.

Piece by piece we see Chidi's memories come in order to his girlfriend dumping him to writing a horrible book; even the moment he gets killed by a falling air conditioner. Then we get to where he's in The Good Place from the moment in season one to the multiple versions from Michael to even when all things started to happen between Eleanor and Chidi's relationship. And by the time we catch to the moment where he loses his memory, we see him talking to Michael and then asking Janet to hold a note for him if he ever gets back.

As Chidi comes back full memory and all, Eleanor tells him that he needs to help save the universe before the Judge reboots the universe. Chidi says that it's gonna take a lot of time but then ask Janet for the note and when he reads it it says "there's no answer" but "Eleanor is the answer."

"The Answer" was as good as any clip show I have seen in years; probably since Community. It was a brilliant and witty character growth of Chidi since the peeps in the chill episode. While we hoped to learn that Chidi has the answer to the question to save the world; it apparently relies all on Eleanor. How will she be the factor into this is the million-dollar question and with only four episodes to go, I'm nervous and emotionally intense to see how it all ends. Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.

You can catch the return of The Good Place tonight at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Reboot and Glue: The Good Place "Chapter 47: The Funeral to End All Funerals"

Image result for the good place the funeral to end all funerals

The results are in! Did they win or fail? Here's the recap!

With the experiment done, Eleanor, Jason, Tahani, and Janet awaited the final verdict from the judge at the Excellent Place while Michael met with Shawn to hear the final ruling. After trying to make a comeback remark to Shawn, the judge sees the results, with three members improving scores except for Brent. But Michael argues about how the other people that Eleanor and the gang have changed in their lives and also says that Brent was improving until the final second.

Eleanor and the gang pass the time by giving each one a proper funeral while a frozen-in-state Chidi pulls a Weekend at Bernie's vibe at the pool. Tahani gets a plane funeral, Jason receives a pool funeral, and Eleanor gets a funeral while holding a bottle of tequila. She even gives Chidi a funeral but gets interrupted by the judge making her ruling.

While Eleanor and the gang meet with Michael, the judge rules in favor of Michael. But instead of just improving on the point system, she will reboot Earth. Trying to figure out how to stop the judge, Janet takes away the judge's remote, but Bad Janet takes it after reading Michael's book. Not only did Bad Janet come, but a ton of Janets, too, even Disco Janet. At the same time, the Judge tries to find the remote in one of Janet's voids. Eleanor comes up with an idea to use Chidi to help them fix the point system.

The Funeral to End All Funerals" was such a good episode. There were so many good moments, from Michael and Shawn's insults to the Judge talking about rebooting Ally McBeal (which I'm not objecting to that idea). Even the funerals for each member were excellent and heartwarming from the characters. Once again, D'Arcy Carden does it again as Janet and other Janets. And given that this was Kristen Bell's first directorial debut, I thought she did a great job.

Moving forward, the idea of Chidi trying to fix the point system would be a brilliant idea for how it would go. With all the knowledge of being a good person in moral philosophy, could Chidi help rewrite the universal?

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Wake up and Smell the Roses: The Good Place "Chapter 45: A Chip Driver Mystery"/Chapter 46: Help is Other People"

Image result for the good place a chip driver mystery

"Chapter 45: A Chip Driver Mystery"

The Good Place isn't just about being good over bad; but how you should never give up on something when trying to make things work. In this episode, Michael tells Bad Janet, who's in Janet's void, a story about what had happened in the last six months with their group and how much things seemed so doomed that really turned into a positive outcome.

It was basically how the group tries to get Brent to be apologetic after a book that he wrote was totally offensive to the group. But after what seemed to be a failed attempted, Eleanor and the group started coming up with another plan. That's when Michael tells Bad Janet that that's what they're doing coming up another plan after the other had failed because they don't give up. Soon instead of turning bad Janet into a marble, he lets her go and gives her a book to take back.

"A Chip Driver Mystery" was a good episode from start to finish. It was a good character development with some of the supportive characters from Brent and even John. There are still on the edge moments in this show when it comes to when John learns that Jason isn't a monk and Brent trying to apologies. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Image result for the good place hell is other people

"Chapter 46: Help Is Other People"

With only hours till the experiment is over, will Eleanor and gang make it? Here's a recap!

As the clock is clocking down to the end of the experiment; Eleanor and gang feel pretty good about how this all will end; that is until Simone has been putting the pieces together of what she really thinks is going on. When Tahani and Jason learn of this, she tries to blow the idea away until John blew Jason's cover of not being a monk.

With only a few hours till the celebration; Eleanor and the team figure out a way to stall until the clock strikes midnight. They use Michael and his sad magic trick show and when bringing up Brent for a trick an earthquake comes and shallow him only hanging on. Eleanor and Michael get Chidi, Simone and John to stay to help Brent while they wait to see what happens next. Turns out only Chidi stayed with Brent while Simone and John left.

With minutes to spare Eleanor and Michael pull off one more trick: admitting they are in the bad place. While leaving Chidi and Brent to think; they were hoping that Brent could pull off a hell mary that ended up not happening at the buzzer.

"Help Is Other People" is a hilarious episode that really kind of gave us the perspective of what Michael was going through in the first and second season of the series. The pace and the development of the characters were brilliant as we just hope that Brent would pull off that one miracle moment of saying, "I'm sorry." Now with the experiment over what will happen now? Hell, what happened to Simone and John? Could Michael and Eleanor pull off a reset? Oh man, I can't wait to see where this will be going. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

NBC Gives The Good Place an Eventful Sendoff

Looks like NBC will be given a proper sendoff to The Good Place with an extra-long 90-minute block dedicated to the end of the award-winning show. The series finale will include an extended episode as well as a post-show special featuring the full cast and hosted by Seth Meyers beginning Thursday, January 30 at 8:30/7:30c.

From the creator and executive producer Mike Schur, The Good Place stars Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D'Arcy Carden. The critically beloved series focuses on Eleanor Shellstrop (Bell) who wakes up in the afterlife and confronts her past through a gracious guide, Michael (Danson). However, Eleanor did not live a righteous life, so if this is heaven, she realizes she was sent there by mistake. Dramedy ensues, infused with questions of ethics, as Eleanor and her fellow afterlife residents need a plan, particularly as things take an unexpected twist.

This is definitely going to be an eventful night. The show gets an event that so well deserves to have but also I do love seeing a post-after show special. I can't wait.

FOLES!!!! The Good Place "Chapter 44: Employee of the Bearimy"

Image result for the good place employee of the bearimy

While Michael and Jason rescue Janet, can Eleanor and Tahani handle the Good Place by themselves? Here's a recap!

As Michael and Jason rescue Janet from the Bad Place; Janet learns the plan as Vicky tries to do her Michael impression in the Michael suit. There Michael and Jason while making it to the Bad Place bonded and soon interrupted Shawn's evil con type of meeting. Michael comes out pretending to be Vicky and brings in Jason pretending to be Glen. Soon, Shawn brings Janet out and the two to torchers Janet till she realizes that they were the real Michael and Jason. Vicky soon comes out and proves to them that she's really her, but Michael uses the demon blower and not only blew up Vicky and the three ran off while the rest of the people cheered with delight.

Meanwhile, Eleanor and Tahani handle things at the good place given everyone an earth day celebration, with their group taking on a nice lake house vacation. But when using Derek things don't go so well. While all wasn't lost, even trying to get Chidi to the lake house by given him mystery clues to play, it worked out in the end. Eleanor and Tahani bonded, as Tahani felt she isn't given a whole lot to do besides given parties and all.

In the end, as Michael, Janet, and Jason escape from the Bad Place and headed back to The Good Place; Michael admits to Janet that it was hard being back after all that he's been through. Just as Jason tells Janet about the horrible things Bad Janet told him, mainly about Blake Bortles getting cut; but Janet tells him that was real but the Jags got Nick Foles, who Jason is excited until she tells him he's injured.

"Employee of the Bearimy" was another very good episode. I loved how they mixed the characters up with Michael and Jason and Eleanor and Tahani; that they really haven't seen a whole lot of bonding together. Plus I do agree that Tahani had a lot more to do in this episode than the previous, but that scene with Eleanor at the end made it so memorable. But I couldn't get enough of Jason and Michael as the two really connected on a level, unlike any time.  The writing was very good along with the character development and the performances from the cast. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Who's Who?: The Good Place "Chapter 43: Tinker, Tailor, Demon, Spy"

Image result for the good place tinker tailor demon spy

Could the Bad Place been playing Eleanor and gang this whole time? Here's a recap!

As Eleanor's plan to get the group closer with a fun activity of magic Pictionary; it turned south with Chidi's Frankenstein of a house monster; Eleanor calls it a night and tries to think of more ideas. But Michael believes that they should take a break and have a slumber party. That is until they get a notification that someone is coming, which turns to be Glen from the Bad Place.

Thinking that Shawn is about to ruin their experiment once again; turns out that Glen wants to inform Eleanor that Michael isn't really Michael that it's Vicky in a Michael suit. This becomes the whole dilemma and with twists.

Eleanor, Tahanui, and Jason try to figure out who's telling the truth. Even trying to get Michael to take off his suit; which he can't or else it would ruin the experiment, as a 6,000 fire squid with lots of tentacles, teeth and juice...lots and lots of juice.

Eleanor asks Janet to make a lie detector to prove who's telling the truth and when using it; it blew up Glen. After picking up all of Glen; Michael decides to blow himself up since Eleanor and them don't believe him. And just when he's about ready, Jason handcuffs Janet and appears to be Bad Janet. Jason tells them how he figured it out; only the real Janet would correct Jason that she's not a girl, Bad Janet didn't do that. The next day Michael and Jason went to go get their Janet back while Eleanor and Tahauni take control of The Good Place for a while.

"Tinker, Tailor, Demon, Spy" was a very good episode; even though maybe most of the viewers and fans had already new about this; I surely didn't think about it. But I think we're all agreed that Manny Jacinto probably gave his best performance while Jason tries to play to Glen's story; it's near the end when he talks about Shawn that stole the whole episode. Good writing and story plot and not to mention the performances from the cast were very good too. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Chill and Relax: The Good Place "Chapter 42: Chillaxing"

Image result for the good place chillaxing

As Eleanor and Michael's plan to get Chidi to teach the rest of the group; they kick it up a notch. Here's a recap!!

Michael and Eleanor's plan to get Chidi to teaching the rest of the group didn't seem to go well when they see a happy and relaxed Chidi. In order to stop Chidi from chillaxing, they ask him to add Jianya to his class; but Chidi will learn that Jianyu is really Jason and panics about the new situation.

Later the next day Michael and Eleanor invite Chidi and Jason to a luau where they could also make a wish with a rock and get what they want. After having a wild night, Chidi confronts Eleanor and Michael about something that he knows he can't tell them. As Chidi calms down, he tells them that he thinks that he's being punished; and all of a sudden Eleanor gets emotional about it. After talking with Michael, Chidi decides to keep the secret from them and tech Jason.

Meanwhile, Tahani and Janet try to get John to expect on taking Chidi's class; by taking to spas and tell gossip stories. But John wasn't having it; Tahani goes a different route and tells him a true story event.
It looks like all four of their test subjects have made it taking Chidi's class. But as they celebrate the win for the day, someone mysterious is coming riding the train tracks to The Good Place. Who could it be?

"Chillaxing" is another well written and character developed episode; with not only Kristen Bell and Ted Danson shines so bring together, but Manny Jacinto, William Jackson Harper, and Jameela Jamil did quite a bit in this episode. I loved that Jamil's character had to give John a real story from her past in order to get him to take a class. I thought that Jacinto's performance was very good and shines as his character is heartbroken and not the Jason we all know after breaking up with Janet. And who the hell is coming to The Good Place? I'm thinking Trevor or Mindy St. Claire. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Sacrifice: The Good Place "Chapter 41: A Girl From Arizona, Pt. 2"

Cn Eleanor and the gang continue with their plan or will there have to be a change in leadership? Here's a recap!

In Part Two, after Judge grants that Chidi is the fourth subject in the experiment, Eleanor comes up with a way of getting to know their subjects: a talk show. But for Brent, it just wasn't going so well and that they learn what he's been using Janet for; from golfing, rides and even trying to get Janet to wear stuff for him.

Eleanor and Michael go to plan b with using the same effects that make The Good Place go haywire. But that, of course, diadn't go the way they had hope as Brent confesses to them that he doesn't belong in The Good Place, but The Best Place.

Later the team confronts Michael that they think that they need new leadership as Eleanor shows up and walks out. Michael talks to Eleanor and gives her the encouragement to try it again; which she did. They played to Brent's strength: getting him to believe that in order to get to The Best Place he has to do good things to add points.

After that worked, the next step is to get Chidi and Simone together, even telling him that they are soulmates. Chidi confronts Simone at the yogurt shops and gets her confidence to accept him. Later on, Eleanor and the gang reminisce of what Chidi has done for them, let alone what Eleanor too has done as well.

Also, Jason tries to do something nice for Janet by taking a lesson from Michael to given her some space. Soon Janet confronts Jason and tells him that they need to take a break and also tells him the news that the Jacksonville Jaguars cut Blake Bortles from their team, which left him depressed.

"Part two of A Girl from Arizona" was really good that had some heartfelt moments, mainly between Michael and Eleanor. With Eleanor thinks that it's gonna be a breeze; but it turns out it gets a bit harder but realizes that if something fails, try, try again. And even though Michael is a demon, he still shows remorse and gives Eleanor the pep talk that she needed to get the next plan going.

Janet and Jason's storyline was good, funny and even heartbroken; mainly when she tells him that Bortles was cut from his favorite NFL team. You knew that was going to hurt him the most over their break up break. The story was very good with good character development. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch The Good Place Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

"What the Fork!" The Good Place "A Girl from Arizona, Pt. 1" Season Premiere

The season premiere of The Good Place was everything to the smell of donkey-butts to mouth-full of fleas. Here's a recap!!!

We pick up moments from the end of the season finale where Eleanor shows Chidi around The Good Place. There he's jumping with excitement, but Eleanor is a bit disappointed by losing her true love in this experiment. As Eleanor returns to Michael's office, everyone gives her a vote of confidence that this will work out for the best, even both Michael and Shawn gives them a pep talk, which was one of the highlights of the episode.

As Eleanor and Michael greet the next new residents, Linda, who happens to be a bore of the group that doesn't see any excitement of being in The Good Place. Not to mention, Brent, who thinks that everything is too PC in the world. The gang tries to connect with one another to find out what makes them tick; but it's not even coming close, not even Simone, who believes that not of this is real and acts like a total goofball.

Michael tries to convince Eleanor that it's time to use Chidi to help, mainly with Simone. As soon as Eleanor introduce Simone to Chidi, it didn't even work at all. So the next day, Eleanor and Michael get the flying seminar; but Linda wasn't too thrilled, not even flying a couple of inches off the ground. Eleanor and Michael try to bond with her favorite things but she's not bunging at all until she starts punching both of them in the nose and flies around ruining other's flying time.

In fact, Linda is not who we all thought she is as she's just a fraud in Shawn's scam to ruin the experiment. The judge learns and punishes him, by putting Chidi in the experiment. But she also threatens Shawn if there's a smell of his doing again that she'll take out his eyelids and make him watch soldiers coming home greeting their dogs.

As the train comes, Bad Janet comes to pick up the fake Linda. Michael tries to tell her to tell Shawn "booyah!"

Meanwhile, Jason gets jealous with Derek coming back and forth; seeing that he's trying to win her back with his dum affection. Trying to make truths to one another, Jason couldn't take it and murders Derek with his killswitch button; which didn't quite win over Janet as she's been dealing with a billion things to do.

"A Girl from Arizona, Pt. 1" was such a good episode;  there were some surprises that weren't huge but satisfying shocking.  And it was hilarious to watch the Judge go after Shawn for his antics once again. But I just loved how the characters between Eleanor and Michael were in this dynamic. You could see Eleanor trying to do two things at once as she's trying to make this experiment work but also keeping Chidi far far away from Simone as well.  Also Jason and Derek fighting over Janet was just a nice balance making the episode funny and crazy. Strong writing and character development. I just wish that this was an hour premiere instead of a half-hour. Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.

You can catch The Good Place Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

I'm very much excited for tomorrow night. I know that Game of Thornes could take everything, including for best comedy too. But I really think that this year's Emmys will be so hard to see who's going home with a win. Could Julia Louis-Dreyfus win for Veep one last time? Will it be Chernobyl or When They See Us take all the awards? As much as I do think Game of Thrones will win Best  Drama, don't be surprised if This Is Us wins, I think they could be the dark horse that no one believes they could win it.

You can catch the 71st Primetime Emmys Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c on FOX.
