Callback: Chicago Fire "Funny What Things Remind Us"

After watching this week's exciting episode of Chicago Fire, I craved some delicious donuts! Let's dive into the recap!

"Funny What Things Remind Us" has quickly become my favorite episode of the season! It beautifully blends the intense drama between Kidd-Severide and Brett-Casey with the touching human story that Boden navigates in this episode. And let's not forget about Mouch—he faces off against an old rival firefighter, making it all the more exciting!

Let's start with  Boden because this was one of my favorite storylines in this episode; I was assigned headquarters after checking Lockout closed homes and bordered them up. He gets Severide to help, and as they check on one house, they meet someone who tells them they belong there.

Afterward, being taken to Med, Boden and Severide tried to find out who the guy was after telling them a number. That happened to be the guy's badge number, as he was a police officer and got a hold of his wife. The officer has dementia, and the reason why he walks to that home is because it was the first house he bought for his wife. Plus, Boden bonds with him as a reminder of his father, who was a police officer too.

Severide pushed his luck with Stella once again, trying to avoid her while she was training for the lieutenant exam. Stella thinks he's moving her away, and I don't blame her for thinking of that again. He had the chance to tell her right there, but instead, he meant she didn't need his help for the exam.

After working with Boden and helping with the officer, Severide tries to make amends with Stella at the loft, but she isn't there. She's staying the night at Brett's apartment. Severide, you pushed too far here.

On the other hand, Brett and Casey. The two might have stayed neutral colleagues, but after a call, Casey, who saved a woman from a car crash, gets her number and asks if he would be up for a date. Brett, who sees the interaction, gets a bit jealous (if you call it), while Brett meets with a firefighter from another firehouse, who's interested in asking Brett out and makes Casey a bit jealous.

Is it weird that Casey can find someone outside the firehouse, but Brett keeps finding firefighters? She did have that real estate guy last season but turned him down to see where her feelings with Casey were going. All in all, this is going to be fun. But Casey could be in with this lady for now.

The fun moment in this episode occurs after the car crash. As Truck 81 cleans up, Mouch reunites with an old rival, fueling the feud again. Mouch returns by placing a donut sign at the guy's firehouse, while the guy returns with free donuts at House 51.

In return, Mouch and Truck 81 dumped a massive truckload of day-old donuts in front of the firehouse for him to clean up. But the white flag was drawn when donuts got left on Firehouse 51 from a helicopter. That was too much fun, but I craved donuts after this episode.

Gallo saves Mackey from a blast during a rescue. Mackey gave Gallo the idea that she has kids; instead, she takes care of kids as in daycare. Also, a moment with Cruz was good until Gallo asked if he could take her out, and that moment went away quickly.

I really loved this episode! The storyline with the Boden police officer was so well done, capturing the heartfelt, emotional impact Chicago Fire has consistently delivered over these past nine seasons. Plus, Mouch's story strikes an excellent balance between the humor and wit we’ve all come to adore from the show.

When it comes to Kidd and Severide, I totally understand why Kidd is concerned about what's been happening with Severide. Imagine if he opens up to her in the next few episodes! Even if she’s a bit upset, what if she takes his advice and trains hard for that exam? And picture this: if she passes, Severide surprises her with a ring, asking her to marry him! Just a fun little theory!

I’m looking forward to how Brett and Casey's story unfolds for the rest of the season. I'm on this ride with them to see where it leads! And I have to say, with Halstead and Upton from PD, I'm also becoming quite emotionally invested in their journey.

Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.
