When a new medical scanning device arrives at St. Denis, will it become a significant distraction for the staff? Meanwhile, Alex and Ron delve into the complicated ethics of workplace communication and secrets. Here's a recap and review of St. Denis Medical, "Get Me In The Pod, Brother."
Joyce introduces the new medical scan called TOMO, a pod that performs full-body scans. The device quickly becomes a distraction, especially when Bruce climbs inside. He learns that although he appears "fit as a fiddle," his spinal cord and muscles are not in great shape, a diagnosis he is sure to put his own spin on.
Things get worse for Bruce's ego when Matt also undergoes a thorough health scan and proves to be incredibly fit. Bruce tries to figure out Matt's secret until Matt shares an insight with a patient: scars are like stories of the body, and they're pretty cool once you put your own spin on them. This makes Bruce feel better about his spinal findings, convincing himself that he uses his muscles to save lives, not just for aesthetics. Yeah, Bruce, we'll buy that!
Joyce struggles to manage the pod for the few weeks it's near her office. Despite her best efforts, memos, emails, and even attempts to fire Dakota, she cannot find peace to work, even retreating to her "space car" for quiet.
Alex and Ron discuss the complicated ethics of sharing secrets with co-workers and spouses. Ron pushes Alex on why she hasn't told Tim about "Hot Gary," the delivery guy. When Alex finally tells Tim, he casually mentions that Serena is "hot," too. This innocent comment sparks a snowball effect, especially when Ron takes a picture of Serena to send to Tim. Ron's plan backfires when pictures of Serena are found on his computer. To defend himself, Ron admits that he'd actually prefer Joyce over Serena. Could a #Royce romance be on the horizon?
"Get Me In The Pod, Brother" is a delightful episode from start to finish, filled with excellent character development and fantastic chemistry. From the communication chaos between Alex and Ron to the competitive bonding of Bruce and Matt, the interactions are endlessly entertaining.
Even the brief appearance of a pony in the hospital, which gave me "Sebastian vibes" (even though it pooped), was a delight to see! And the idea, though presented as a defensive joke, that Joyce and Ron might have feelings for each other is genuinely intriguing. I wouldn't be surprised if that surprising relationship comes true. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
What did you think of this episode? Which potential romantic pairing are you rooting for: Serena and Matt finally getting over their tension, or the unexpected possibility of Ron and Joyce? Leave a comment.
