This week's One Chicago marked Med's 200th episode with a shocking twist: Fire says goodbye and welcomes another, and P.D. sees one of their own helping someone close. Here's a recap.

Thoughts:

This season finale for both Med, Fire, and PD is all hands on deck type of watching. I think that PD might have another great ending to the season (once again). 

Even though we know that April and Natalie are leaving, I just wonder if Natalie will be the one to save Will's career one more time? Will Dean take responsibility for what had happened to Ethan? I can't wait!

Fire looks to be so good. That proposal was epic in last week's episode! Casey's speech to Brett that he loves her and that Dawson is no more got me all excited! Is that what gets Brett a bit cloudy during a call in the season finale? I feel there's going to be a surprise yet to come, I just don't know what.

PD, let's just call it for what it is, I wanted Wednesday to get here as soon as possible. Why did no one go with Burgess? And I just wonder if this will drag into next season? 

This is a "get your popcorn ready" type of finale!

Two Original Chicago Med Cast Members Exits After Season 6

 

Well, it looks like two of the original cast members of NBC medical drama won't be scrubbing in for next season. 

Deadline has reported that Rorrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta will not return for the Chicago Fire spinoff's seventh season.

DeCosta has been cast in Lee Daniel's Our Kind of People, which received a straight-to-series order at Fox earlier this year. DeVitto does not have a new TV gig lined up, instead of acting in the indie film, Skelly.

As for the rest of the Chicago Med cast, S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuu, Brian Tee, and Marlyne Barrett are expected to return, though their contracts are currently being negotiated.

While this is somewhat of a shock to hear, looking at where these two characters are heading into as the season comes to an end it's pretty clear that they're set to leave. Dr. Manning might be leaving due to her actions to help her mother and April looking for a change. 

But that leaves another question, will Dominic Rains be leaving too? Will his character, Dr. Crockett Marcel be leaving with Natalie?

Family is Family: Chicago Med "Who Should Be The Judge"

Two doctors are kidnapped. There's good news for Maggie, while a family reunion isn't what it seems. Here's a recap!

As Crockett and Natalie walk to Med, they get pulled into an unexpected emergency that ends up being a kidnapping to help a prisoner get to his dying son. But will one make it out alive? Of course, when Crockett saves the guy from killing himself.

Meanwhile, Will visits Hannah at rehab and sees that she's not taking anything to ease her way out of the addiction. After treating one of Dr. Charles' patients, Will tries to sneak something to help her, but she refuses and kicks him out.

April and Ethan are part of a family reunion miracle as a daughter is reunited with her biological birth mother, who needs an organ donation. But something doesn't seem right, and it turns out that they aren't biologically related, and it turns out that the daughter's friend used her job at the Foster Care Service to locate her. Even though they both knew, they didn't care and became a real blended family.

Maggie waits for the news of her test. After a hell of a day, she gets the good news that she deserves, cancer is gone and in return, Ben is there to help get her to celebrate. But what celebration does she want, the one with wedding bells and Ben at her side?

"Who Should Be the Judge" was an excellent episode. While Natalie and Crockett's storyline was thrilling, adding Jay was good too. I worry that this could start up something between the characters that I don't think should be. The family reunion, which really wasn't, was an excellent story, and there was a nice twist at the end that was heartwarming. The episode had good writing and good character development. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

In the Dark with No Support: Chicago Med "We're Lost In The Dark"/:In the Valley of the Shadows"

"We're Lost in the Dark"

With a storm hitting Chicago, what could have gone wrong? Power outage! Here's a recap!

As everyone's recovering from the loss of Conner and Ava, Med tackles its biggest challenge yet, a power outage during a storm. Natalie returns but must take things easy, but when a gunshot victim comes in, Lanik not only takes over the case but makes her take him up to surgery. But as she takes him up, the power goes out, and she's stuck in the elevator. Luckily for her, Casey happens to come to help, and while he places the tube for the guy to breathe, Natalie saves the guy just in time for the power to come back on.

Will takes on a case that leads him to think that it's an infection, as not only his patient but also her two friends become ill. With no power and the lab slowdown, Dr. Charles knows what it could be, mind over matter. He gave them a placebo, and all was good.

Noah returns and meets Dr. Marcel, who's given me this Jimmy Smits meets George Clooney vibe. The two hit it off when treating a patient who needs heart surgery, but when the power goes off, it turns into a MASH type of atmosphere; in the end, they save their patient.

Also, Maggie will be battling her will after getting her first chemo treatment. Ethan and April test a promising medical student during all of the chaos in the ED. You would think the kid would be excited afterward, but he wasn't.

"We're Lost in the Dark" was an excellent and exciting second episode with a solid plot. I enjoyed watching Dr. Marcel's introduction, even though he was in the season premiere. In this episode, I got more of who he is and still see a bit of Jimmy Smits and George Clooney in this guy. I will be glued to Natalie and Will and will bsed by what Phillip has done to them. I won't be surprised if April and Ethan try to have a baby. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"In The Valley of the Shadows"

Support is lacking in this week's episode of Chicago Med. Here's a recap!!

When Natalie tackled a patient who came in for a burn on her leg, her condition got worse as Natalie was gonna treat her. Will questions her motive and worries about her decision-making when she forgets between one medication over another that she thought she used. When Will takes over, Natalie discovers that her patient has a medical disorder.

Ethan and Charles deal with a terminally ill patient who is planning to freeze himself so that when his illness has a cure, they can bring him back. Charles not only deals with this but his wife, who broke her wrist and wants to have surgery over having a cast. After learning that their patient's parents decide to go with their son's wish, Charles chooses the same thing with his wife.

April and Marcil team up and treat a mother who walked into the ED after giving birth, but April suspects something is not correct. After the mother refuses treatment for herself, April brings in DCFS, but the mother is out when Marcil gives her medication to calm down. Later, both get a patient that PD found and has a wound that shows she had a baby. April put two and two together, and that woman literally cut that baby out of that mother.

Maggie gets some help thanks to Goodwin, but she doesn't want it and gives the nurse hell. After bailing out during surgery with Marcil, that nurse leaves after a strong-worded conversation. Goodwin demands Maggie pick April to take some of the load from her, and maybe she'll choose to get treatment at Med, too.

"In the Valley of the Shadows" was an excellent episode with a few predictable moments. The woman coming in with her baby turns out she cut the baby out of the mother's womb. But what Marcil did was a bit surprising, given that he has morals. The Will and Natalie story and Ethan and Charles were good. I enjoyed watching Maggie's story, as it was so good and powerful. Good writing and character development. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Standing up: Chicago Med "With A Brave Heart" Season Finale

The season finale left us not only with some good moments, but they also ended it with such a cliffhanger. Here's a recap!

As Charles plans to give his future bride a wedding that she won't forget; he comes to terms when a former patient comes back with a tumor in the brain. Charles pushes him to have the surgery but he must be awake during the surgery. After having a minor freakout, Charles gets his patient to calm down and got the surgery done. Charles finally takes into consideration from Robin and instead of taking his wife to Hawaii; they get married and bring Hawaii to Chicago is probably one of the best scenes of the episode that will just grab your heart. 

Ethan and April not only dealing with Emily and Bernie; but treating a husband who's suffering from a deer tick bite. But when they learn that the husband's wife is suffering from Alzheimer's and living with his girlfriend to help with home care and support. After learning from their patient, Ethan and April take that into their dinner with Emily, Bernie, and family as things seem to work well with their arrangement. But as Ethan and April take the dishes to the kitchen, April tells Ethan that she's late on her period. Uh oh!

Conner learns that his dad's death was questionable and that someone must have done something wrong. But when he has to perform surgery with Ava, things just don't seem right as she tries to win him back again. Could she have done it?

Will and Natalie treat a returning patient whose husband believes that there's something wrong with his wife's heart. After many tests, there was indeed a problem and as soon as she gets the surgery, her husband talks to Will about commitment as in having a family. After the surgery, they plan to start a family pretty soon. On the other hand, Will learns that the son of the mobster is out of jail and could go after him. After learning from the husband of his patient, he stands his ground and not go back to witness protection. That gets Natalie involved, who escapes a marriage proposal, to support Will, but when she talks to him in the parking garage, they get hit by a van. Will gains conscious from the hit to see the guy, who fainted, but also Natalie who is suffering a head wound and loses consciousness.

"With a Brave Heart" was a really good season finale episode. The episode left with some memorable moments from Charles and his wife to Ethan and April. The moment that really had me off my chair was Will and Natalie; yet I'm worried to know what will happen to Natalie and will #Manstead be together telling that other dude bye-bye.

I really didn't care for the Conner and Ava story as it really ran its course. But when the new season starts, I really want a good and solid explanation on where they had gone. I think that Conner and Robin go off to the sunset to better adventures. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10. I give this season a 9/10.

Oh man! Could Dr. Charles be leaving Med for good? I'm not quite sure that will happen. I think that Conner will be dealing with some powerful stuff this week that not only with that kid and his father in the clip but probably losing his dad too. Maybe Will could take some lessons from Ethan and April in relationships. Anyone think Emily will bail on her baby? Two more episodes left! It's so hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the season.

Denying the Inevitable: Chicago Med "More Harm Than Good"

A mysterious drug brings two patients that the doctors can't understand; while a Rhodes questions his father's surgery. Here's a recap!

When two patients come in the ED after taking a mysterious drug that literally puts them in severe pain; Ethan, Nataline, and Dr. Charles try to help them; but they don't want help. As one dies, Natalie tries her best to help the other one before she dies too, but still won't accept. Charles tries to figure out a way to get a court order but Natalie forces her patient to take the medicine that could stop the deadly drug from working. Even though it was wrong, Charles gets the patient to not only take some meds to help ease with the pain but get her on the treatment too; even though it just delay what they learned was a suicide attempt in a cult to save Earth.

Will not only deals with Natalie's new boyfriend, Phillip; but deals with a patient that's questionable about his involvement of kidney donation to his brother. After doing research, he's convinced that it's illegal and tries to get Goodwin to stop it. But by the time he chats with the patient he realizes that it could be alright.

Conner and Ava are at it again, but this time it's all Conner as his father is back in the ED; learns that his stint in his heart had a malfunction and needed surgery again. Rhodes's dad isn't too pleased about it and even threatens the head of the hospital about her contract. Conner tries to apologize to Ava but she tells him that he should apologize to the other things he's accused her of doing. She even tells him that him breaking up with her was still hard to get over. Now I'm back on her side now.

Ethan's sister returns to the ED but with Bernie. Bernie needs surgery but also needs to find a job and a new place for him, Emily and their baby to live. After coming to his senses, Ethan apologizes to Bernie about his actions and tells him whatever he needs he'll do it. Probably shouldn't have said that as Bernie asked for the blue pills.

"More Harm Than Good" was such an interesting episode. The stories were as interesting; even I believe kicked off to stories that we'll see by the end of the season. The medical case of the week was a real thrill; that had me on the edge of my seat even after learning the reason for the patient. I do feel the Conner and Ava story has run its course and I just hope it really comes to an end, even though the two won't be back in Season Five.

The Ethan and Bernie story was at times funny, but too a serious turn when Bernie asked Ethan for blue pills that just disliked him more. I see where Will was going and probably should have taken a better approach about Phillip with Natalie but that story of the kidney transplant was a very good story and even if the outcome wasn't what we expected. But I do stand with Will about Phillip and that he shouldn't have lied to Owen. Good story, good character development. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Truth and Prevail: Chicago Med "We Hold These Truths"

In a time of crisis, Chicago Med steps up and use everything they've got to save people's lives. Here's a recap!
 
"We Hold These Truths" was one powerful episode from start to finish. As the doctors and nurses take on a truck crashing a neighborhood street fair;  what it seemed to be an accident turns into a shocking revelation.

Natalie and Maggie started having a girls afternoon at the neighborhood street fair; until a truck crashes the event injured a lot of people, even have killed. They spring into action to help those who can be helped and saved; but soon they needed a place to treat the patient in a more stable environment, at a nearby restaurant. To make things even worst, Boden wouldn't let them get out of the area to head to Med; until the bomb squad clears the area because of a bomb in the truck. As things soon become clear, it wasn't for Maggie, who had donated her kidney in the previous episode, as she popped a stitch from her side and rushed her to Med; where she turns out fine.

Will treats an off duty police officer that comes in along with his son and the officer needed surgery to repair his heart but later died. Will and Dr. Charles tell the son about his father turn to one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the episode. Later as the kid's mother takes her son, a line of police officers takes their hand to shake and walk them out. Will laters saves a dog that was left at the ambulance bay; takes him as his own. While Dr. Charles, who's not only dealing with his ex-wife's health issue but come to terms that to meet his mother and show her a photo of his daughter.

The driver of the truck comes in and what they thought was a drunk driver; turns out it could have been a stroke that he suffered. But as the driver becomes conscious, turns out to be a racist person. 
Dr. Choi deals with a male patient that hits on him in a romantic way but it turns him off and tries to dodge him while leaving him with Terry. But Terry confronts Choi about the situation and tells him that he's gay too. Knowing that Choi was just cut off guard.

Not only did Rhodes deals with a reunion with the return of Robin; but deals with an opportunity of saving a patient from another patient through donation. But as Goodwin tries to talk with the mother about donating her daughter's organs; it doesn't go the way they both had hoped. Goodwin prevails and the mother comes around; signs off for her daughter's organs to be donated; Rhodes got to save his patient.

I really enjoyed this episode from start to finish. There were some powerful and overwhelming moments; from Maggie and Natalie taking on the victims at the fair, Will and Dr. Charles dealing with a son who lost his dad. Even Goodwin trying to help a mother get her to donate her daughter's organs. Even a shocking revelation when Charles sees his mother. There was some character development from Charles, but it was Terry McNeal that we got to learn a bit more of him. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
