A Not So Funny Valentine: Supergirl "Menagerie"

Image result for supergirl menagerie

Will Kara and Alex be the same after the previous episode? Will Nia come to Kara's side to fight for justice? Plus could this be the end of Lena and Jimmy? Here's a recap!

It's Valentine's day so it's pretty much appropriate for an alien to come crashing to Earth to kill humans and steal their hearts. That case leads to having both Alex, Kara, and J'onn working together as each of their cases has drowned to the creature Menagerie.  While it does lead to some Kara and Alex time; it's stressful for Kara.

Meanwhile, as Nia copes from the loss of her mother; Brainy tries to plan a valentine's date. After a talk with Kara; Nia decides to suit up and help Supergirl again Menagerie but even though they had a chance to stop and stun to the creature, the children of Liberty has raised with the son as the leader and sliced the alien's head off the human body. Think that was game over, think again!

During the Menagerie attacks, Haley goes to Lena for help on the President's behalf to stop the aliens. Soon after Jimmy comes with her Valentine's gift and quickly Lena tries to get them to go on a surprise trip, but soon she tells Jimmy about the contract with the President and her studies and even though Jimmy loves her, he just can't stand with her on her project. So the two broke up and Lena agrees to the contract with the government.

After all, was done, the President gets Ben Lockwood out of jail. But back in jail, Meragerine gets a letter from the Manchester Black which looks to be an invitation to join his team.

"Menagerie" was okay of an episode.  There were times when the episode had good moments and some bad ones that I just couldn't stay focus. The bad ones happen to be Lena and Jimmy; as it felt like the band-aid was ripping apart so slow. The villain in this episode was just okay. It really didn't have too much of character growth. The good would be watching Kara trying to find a way to bond with her sister, also I just can't get enough of J'onn and Kara as Private Investigators. And the Child of Liberty was good but I thought that story had run its course but I just they are adding something much more in this season. Overall, I give this episode a 7.5/10.

Home, Reunion and Rage:: Supergirl "Blood Memory"

Image result for supergirl "Blood Memory"

It's probably one of the best episodes of the season so far! Here's a recap!

"Blood Memory" is and could be one of the best episodes of the season; let alone one to remember with it's a well-written story about Nia; the connection of her family and the Dreamer powers. The character of Nia was really the focus character in this episode; as Kara and Alex were second in the way this episode proceeds. Nicole Maines gives her best performance so far and I would really consider that she should get a nomination for awards.

Kata and Alex's relationship aren't what it use to be now with Alex not knowing that Kara is Supergirl and even doesn't know what Kara's favorite movie: The Wizard of Oz. There is a spilled conflict between the characters; I'm very interested to see how this will play out.

Meanwhile, the copycatted Supergirl has run into what seemed to be health problems. After trying to revive her with the shock paddles, some of the electric went around the world creating alien rage pills in town. Later at the end, the commander calls for assistance in the United States,  I wonder who?
Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

"Let Me Save You This Time" Supergirl "Suspicious Minds"

Image result for supergirl suspicious minds

With Kara not working for the DEO, that doesn't mean she's not gonna stop her from doing her one job: saving people. But when an attack occurs at a military ship, Col. Haley dismisses her from the scene and advise not to investigate. But behind her back, Alex and Kara try to find what caused the deaths of the military officers.

Alex and Kara get help from J'onn and looking forward to what is known as shimmers that can attack while being invisible. As they got a lead; they learn that these shimmers were experimented for testing. As Kara tries to talk to one of them, it kills itself instead. But one of them makes it to the DEO and with everyone using extreme measures like using real guns. As it seemed that they were losing the battle; Col. Haley gets cornered by one of them and is almost attacked til Supergirl shows up and saves her.

Haley gives her somewhat of a thank you, learned Supergirl's identity and demands to follow her orders til Alex knocks her out. J'onn comes in and tries to take out the interest of who Supergirl is. That is until they found a way; J'onn wipes everyone's memory of who's Supergirl; from colleagues who care to yes even Alex.Alex explains to Kara in one simple way "Let me save you this time."

Meanwhile, Brainy takes out Nia to dinner and in a first date proposal way, he asked her if she would want to join and help with Supergirl.

"Suspicious Minds" was a fine and interest episode. The one funny and happy moment was from Brainy and Nia date; to Kara and J'onn investigating at his PI office. But mostly everything else was very intense to say from mostly Haley and Alex's standoffs on what's right and wrong for the DEO and Haley's search for the identity of Supergirl. That quote "let me save you this time," has been stuck in my head and shed some tears. Not only was it heartbreaking but it seemed like another game changer for the show once again. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Man, they are really turning this season to a new level of drama and excitement. With what's going on in this episode it looks like Brainy and Nia's storyline could be the happy moment over what Kara and Alex are dealing with Haley. I can't wait!

Fighting Words: Supergirl "Call to Action"

Image result for supergirl call to action

It's Thanksgiving and it seems that Child of Liberty are gonna pull a purge. Will Kara and gang stop them? Here's a recap!

With it being Thanksgiving, the Children of Liberty pull of their own way of the purge by stalking houses of where aliens live and torcher them. After Kara and Manchester stopped a group, Col. Haley orders Alex and Kara to stop investigating it; they did it anyway.

Meanwhile, Lena booked James to a around table discussion TV show; but he doesn't want to do because of his planned hangout with one of the Children of Liberty. It doesn't sit well with Lena and well James didn't go and instead had Kara go on there and discuss with Lockwood. Kara makes a perfectly good argument til Lockwood makes one last statement that got the audience buzzing.

As everyone comes for Kara's apartment for Thanksgiving, they discuss the agenda of Children of Liberty until Brainy brings out one of their mask that happens to have a vision sensor so they know which house to go to. Then everyone leaves to stop the groups even getting help from a dragon.
After his television appearance, Lockwood seems to have a nice Thanksgiving til he gets a call from the television host asking if he would like to host his own TV show. He accepts.

After things calm down, Haley tells Alex and Kara that she'll have the DEO investigate the Children of liberty. But meantime, Lena's Phase II seemed to go wrong with testing a heart that has tumors. But when Lena was trying to destroy the third heart, it wouldn't and moved to the next step: human testing.

Everyone becomes worried about Nia's sleeping too much and asked her about it. She admits that she has narcolepsy but wouldn't accept help from Kara or her mother.  Manchester captures one of the Liberty members and tries to get information. But James gets a call from the guy he was hanging out with and told him he could get him in to see the boss. But he had to be kidnapped to do it.

"Call to Action" was a good episode. It had some good moments that stood out from Lena and James fighting about their different opinions and he not wanting to do the television thing. Brainy and Nia meeting again for Thanksgiving. The dragon that appeared to protect that kid was an amazing and nice reference to Harry Potter. I would be very worried about Nia but I think we'll know more about her in the coming episodes. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

You can catch Supergirl on Sundays at 8/7c on The CW.

Acceptance: Supergirl "In Search of Lost Time"

Image result for Supergirl "In Search of Lost Time"

Acceptances is the hardest thing to acknowledge.

"In Search of Lost Time" is an hour of an episode that dives into our characters dealing with and facing their feelings with the changes that they have gone through in the last year, mainly. But call it what you will, helping or not, J'onn's father's illness and prayers pretty much helped Kara and J'onn to accepting what was in front of them: Kara's feelings towards Mon-El (during their training with capes) and J'onn trying to help his father in a distress state.

But the main one happens to be with Lena helping Samantha, who figures out that she's Reign. When she wakes Sam up, Lena explains to her what is happening, but Sam wouldn't accept it. But after trying to piss her off, Sam did see the truth about her condition after seeing a video recording of her using laser powers and super strengthen. Sam does accept what's going on and tells Lena to not let Ruby see her til she's better.

And with all that Lena has been going through, she's pretty much accepts her relationship with James after he's been trying to check on her in the last week. But the episode ends with a creepy cliffhanger when Kara and Mon-El fly around the city star seeing dead birds flying from the sky, something to look forward to next week's episode.

The episode was such an emotional episode that dealt with friends helping friends, but a son stepping up to help his father in the most realistic and dramatic way that it hits close to home just a bit. The performances from Katie McGrath, Odette Annable and David Hardwood was outstanding with such strong character development and also gives moments that make you shed tears and feel their pain.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Supergirl Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.

Risky Girl's Trip: Supergirl "Fort Rozz"

Image result for supergirl fort rozz

Talk about a risky girls' trip that ended with a surprising sacrifice.

To get information about Reign, Supergirl has to meet with someone who happens to be in Fort Rozz, the prison ship that Supergirl and J'onn got rid of. But Kara couldn't go in by herself because where the boat is located, there is no sun. So that leads her to bring Saturn, Girl, Psi and Livewire along for the journey.

The trip at first was a bumpy one for all, but after Psi accidentally used her power on Saturn Girl, Kara puts the straps back on. But the Rozz was soon getting pulled into the star; Saturn tries to get a connection to the DEO, while Kara and Livewire look for Jindah Kol Rozz and get a couple of words from her til Reign is there and kills Rozz.

Soon, Livewire fights Reign and gives her a jolt of electricity, but when she is down and Reign is about to attack Kara, Leslie sacrifices and takes the shot from Reign. But Psi makes it there and gives Reign something to consider: fear. And that let her show her emotions and run away. But leaving Kara to attend with Leslie, who dies from the laser shot from Reign, Kara and Leslie have an unfortunate and emotional moment.

Meanwhile, with Alex still with a broken leg, she babysits Ruby for Samantha while she's on a business trip she never went. As they had some fun, Alex helped Ruby with a cyberbullying problem that had her confront the bully and made her almost crap her pants. But while she was assisting Ruby, Ruby was helping her deal with Maggie after texting her about her passport. But after a lovely time babysitting, she sees that Samantha isn't herself as Sam tells her that she doesn't remember going on the business trip.

"Fort Rozz" was a good and sad episode, as, yes, Livewire died. Livewire was one of my favorite villains in the Supergirl series. I didn't think this would be her endgame, but maybe she will come back (with fingers crossed because the Superhero series seems to have that soap opera coming back to life). Samantha's true self emerges in Reign when Psi gives her a mindset of fear of losing Ruby.

Rozz tells Kara that there are more World Killers like Reign living on Earth, and at the end of the episode, we see one of them as she survives a car accident when the car smashes her between another vehicle—a true sign of things to come and building very well.

I enjoyed this episode a lot. The writing was well done and given a sad twist with Livewire. The performance from Benoist, Morgan, Amy Jackson, and Grobgias was excellent, and Jesse Rath and Jeremy Jordan stole some scenes with their way of handling hilarious things. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10

Wake Up!! Supergirl "Legion of Superheroes" Mid-season Premiere

Image result for supergirl legion of superheroes tv show

After the fall finale ending, Reign makes her way in the city delivering justice with no mercy, can Kara wake up before things get out of hand?

We jump two days after the events of the fall finale to find Kara in a coma and yet in a subconscious dream of where she feels comfortable: her loft. She soon gets a visitor, Brainiac 5 to help guide Kara out of her dream, but when it turns out that she can't get out, she must find a way out.

Meanwhile, Reign makes her way in National City in a big way, calling everyone that she's only here to bring justice and show no mercy to those that do crime. With Mon El and his Legion team can't help, Alex and J'onn do what they have to do to stop her, even it is using a secret kryptonite weapon.

After failing, Mon-El and team step up and battle with Reign in the oldest fashion battle: playing with Bon Jovi in the background. As the battle presses on, Kara notice Brainaic 5 talking battle tactics while still in her dream and after he tells her what's going on, she finds the way out of accepting that Kara is loved over Supergirl and wakes up.

Soon, Kara comes in and battles with Reign again, but quickly stabs Reign in the neck with the kryptonite weapon and runs off. Reign then is healed at her own fortress, until she learns that she has a team and one person that could also help Conville.

Kara comes with peace with Mon-El and thanks them for their help. Her and Alex talk about their thoughts on the events that just happened.

"Legion of Superheroes" was a good episode that had balance of humor and intense drama at times. Brainaic 5 brings in the comedic side to the story and I very much enjoyed watching him working along Kara of the others. J'onn's scene with Lena was another classic moment as he had to fill in for Kara while in a coma. As much as he hates it, we love it. The story was very good at times as it showed out hero trying to get out of her subconscious mind. All she needed was to realized that she's loved over Supergirl. The performance from the cast was amazing, mostly Jesse Rath as Brainaic 5 that really stole the episode.

Overall, I give this episode a 8.5/10.

You can catch Supergirl Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.

The Moment: Supergirl "Wake Up"

Related image

It's the moment that we've all been waiting for until a twist will shatter those hopes.

When Kara, J'onn and Wynn investigate an unknown ship that's under National City. What they find was truly a shocking moment for Kara as they found Mon-El. As they take him back to the DEO and run some test, questions begin to wonder how he has been in that ship that apparently has been under the city for years.

With Kara, being the only person to believes Mon-El is fine, she finds him trying to escape and then locks him up in the cell. Mon-El convinced Wynn to help him back to the ship, where there's a life support system that's going unstable. Kara follows them and learns the truth from Mon-El that after leaving earth in the pod, he was picked up in a wormhole taking him to the 31st Century, where L Crop developed cure for the Daxamites. But what has been only seven months for Kara is really seven years for Mon-El .

And if that wasn't shocking enough, when the life support system was going critical, Mon-El was trying to save one pod by opening it but Kara opens it and finds another person in there. That person happens to be Imra Ardeed, Mon-El's wife.

If that wasn't shocking enough, Samantha visits her foster mother and learns about her Kryptonian origins and soon finds the Fortress of Sanctuary. There a hologram of a female A.I. tells Sam that even though the changes she's experiencing were suppose to happen earlier, but her having unplanned child delayed it, that she is destined to become Reign the Worldkiller. And soon experiences painful changes and losing  her humanity.

"Wake Up" was an episode that had both heartwarming to heartbreaking moments, mostly coming into with Kara and Mon-El. When seeing them together for the first time you feel so relieved with joy and all but later you get the feel that something doesn't seem to be right.  There was some good humor, mostly the scene where Kara, J'onn and Wynn looking for the spot where the ship was located. Also not to mention pretty thrilling when it comes to when Sam is learning about who is really is. Even though the Kara-Mon-El story was focused more for us to disgust, it was Sam's story that really was equal or better than the other. The writing was solid and the performances from Annable as Sam along with Wood and Benoist. Overall, I give this episode a 8/10.

You can catch Supergirl in the two night crossover event of the fall Crisis on Earth-X beginning Monday at 8/7c on The CW.

Escape: Supergirl "Midvale"

Related image

Ever wondered how Alex and Kara been so close to one another? Well, this episode really gives us the origins of how they became the best sibling relationship.

After a heartbreaking breakup with Maggie and a rough couple of weeks, Kara takes Alex to a trip back home to get away from it all and recharge their batteries. Kara tries to get Alex to open up about her feelings but she attacks her with how she handed losing Mon-El and the two go to bed.

We jump ten years back to when Kara and Alex were in high school and the two seemed to be not on good terms at all. Alex didn't like Kara for all the big sister reasons that you would think.

The episode depicts on the origins of how Alex and Kara became the sisters that we have seen them for the past two and a quarter seasons.  Kara's good friend, Kenny, gets killed and the two put their heads together to solve the case. Kara finds her friend's laptop and tries to decrepit the computer with Alex's skills but when they couldn't they see that Kenny gets an email from a teacher that knows that Kenny knows about him and Alex's friend are in an illegal relationship.

You would think that it would just be that til later when Kara and Alex are walking home they almost get hit by a car. Soon Alex's friend comes by and tells her that the teacher had been arrested and she was with him at the time. That gives Alex the idea that the teacher wasn't the suspect at all and goes to the local sheriff to inform him.

Kara gets word from her friend, who decrepit the rest of Kenny's laptop, that there were photos and one of them being the local sheriff dealing with drugs. Kara quickly calls Alex to inform her and quickly hears her saying she with him at the game and flies there to save her.

After the arrested of the local sheriff, Alex and Kara get a special gift from Kenny's parents ('m going to say mostly his mother) of Kenny's telescope. That apparent telescope was a symbol or a key to the beginning of their wonderful sisterhood.

As they young Kara and Alex go to bed, we come back to the present to see Alex waking up and walking towards Kara, who was looking through the telescope. Soon they open up and quickly come to realize that everything is going to be find. They leave but in the style of listening to Gwen Stefani's "Escape."

"Midvale" was a really good standalone origin episode of depicting how Kara and Alex became such great sisters. It was overly dramatic at all. It really had a good balance of humor, drama and a simpe case of the week. Izabela Vidovic and Olivia Nikkanen were amazing and played the young Kara and Alex. With everything this episode had show, the one moment that really stuck in my mind was when Kara was visited by an agent from the FBI that looked like her mother. But when she leaves after telling Kara not to use her powers, she walks to her car and changed form into Hank as it was J'onn J'onzz. That moment was so touching as how important he is to Kara and Alex. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Supergirl Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.

A Bond and Separate: Supergirl "Damage"

Related image

This episode was all about damage control, both professionally and privately.

Let's get to the pulling off the band-aid part of the episode as Alex and Maggie finally talk it out again about whether they are done because Alex wants kids and Maggie doesn't. When they finally talk it out, it turns out that they have to break up.

But there's some bright side to breaking up, mainly between Alex and Maggie. As Alex was packing things up and listening to a depressing song, Maggie changed the music to a friendly and upbeat one. The two kiss and move to the bed, where they spend one more time together. Maggie packs and leaves, but not with a long, emotional goodbye kiss.

Meanwhile, Lena deals with her crisis when Edge blames her for the lead poisoning of the kids from the lead bomb in the season 2 finale. With the whole city hating Lena, she tries to calm the storm, but one of the parents tries to assist her but fails. Samantha takes Lean in until they figure out the whole problem. Kara and Samantha investigate and figure out (mostly Samantha) that all the kids who became sick were at a local pool.

The two break in (thanks to Kara) and look around with a sample of the pool water that turned out to have lead. Samantha and Kara quickly found the chlorine from a company that had information in it. Kara informed Lena about it and asked the company if she ever heard of it. She tells her no, but she knows it's Edge's company.

Lena confronts Edge and threatens him with a gun, but he gets the last laugh as one of his guys knocks her out and leaves her in an airplane carrying the same chlorine. Edge controls the plane, but with Lena's quick SOS SOS call, Kara gets there just in time and saves both Lena and the chlorine barrels.

Kara confronts Edge about attacking Lena, and the two butted heads until Kara steps away.

Lena and James' relationship seems to be going better than it had been since Lena bought CatCo. Kara, Lena, and Samantha have a lovely sisterly evening to celebrate. Kara later confronts Alex about her break up with Maggie, and at the end of the episode, Samantha finds out that she was shot but didn't get injured.

"Damage" was an episode in which I endured intense emotions and excitement. The Alex and Maggie scenes were so good and, at times, faced with real raw emotions. With that, the Lena, Samantha, and Kara storyline was even out with thrilling and fun at times, mostly watching Samantha and Kara scenes. Katie McGarth, Oddette Annable, and Melissa Benoist show naturally good chemistry. Chyler Leigh and Floriana Lima gave an excellent performance. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Supergirl on Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.

Blind Faith: Supergirl "The Faithful"

Related image

Faith is challeneged in a way that even Kara has never seen before with cult following.

Back in 2015 when a plane's engine blew and Supergirl saved the plane and the passangers in it, that included Alex. There was one passanger, Trevor (Chad Lowe), who took her into inspiration. Back to the present day, when Kara spotted a pamphlet of a religious group on Samantha's desk and took it to investigate it. When her, Winn and James investigated it, they find that it's a religious cult of those that have been saved by Supergirl and believe that she's the one. And this is founded by the man who saw Supergirl, Travor.

Kara comes to realizes that these cults followers are causing trouble just to be saved by her for which seems like a crime but to Maggie it really isn't. Kara meets with Trevor to talk about his group and soon he sees that Kara is Supergirl.

Soon the group goes attempts to blow up the stadium with over a thousand people in it. Supergirl tries stopping them and while trying to stop the bomb, there happens to be kryptonite inside. Alex gets there and tries to help a weak Supergirl. Kara has one last idea and used all of her strenght to use her heat vision to create a hole that goes all the way down in the Earth so Alex and Trevor can push it down.

Kara meets with Trevor in prison and asked him if things are okay and if she has to worry about him knowing that she's Supergirl. Of course, he says he has no clue who Karas full name was so the close is clear for no, I guess.

Meanwhile, Samantha is having a hard time balancing work and her daughter. Trouble with the merge of L Crop and another became a huge priority while her daugther wanted her to help practice her song for the talent show. Samantha gets to hangout with Kara, Lena, Maggie and Alex as a girls night out, which was really. With the merge a success, she gets to her daughter's performance along with Lena, Alex and Kara just in time to see her perform.

After Samantha's daughter's performance, Alex got so emotional that she walked away and talked to Kara about how Maggie doesn't want to have kids and she does. Kara believes that Maggie will come around.

And not if Samantha's night wasn't tough enough, as she prepares for a bath, she spots numbers and letters on her face and sees a vision of a monstrous creature walking towards her to tell her that soon it will "reign."

"The Faithful" was a very good episode that had a really good growth of characters with Samantha and Kara as they face some challenges with life and faith. Not to mention Alex with her wanting kids and Maggie doesn't. The writing was really good. I very much enjoyed Annable's performance and even her storyline so far as it's really building quite well. Overall, I give this episode a 8/10.
