Changing of the World: All Rise "A Change Is Gonna Come" Season Premiere

The season premiere of All Rise this week had some really strong moments and even a shocker at the end. 

The season premiere of All Rise titled, "A Change is Gonna Come" really should the changes that have gone on in the span since the season one finale. We learn in flashbacks of Judge Carmichael stopping a cop as he had drawn his weapon as the girl was trying to look for her phone in her bookbag. 

That point and time set off a chain reaction into the present with Lola and Mark's friendship; as Mark seemed to be on the other side of what Lola was thinking, even though the cop didn't believe that she was a judge and didn't ask for I.D. 

Meanwhile, Mark was battling with Rachel on a case that hits close to home with Carmichael with a white man charged with a hate crime for hitting black and mix people with a baseball bat. We learn the meaning of the judge's difficulties when talking to her new law clerk, Ness Johnson. 

Sara deals with a family situation where her grandparent's store was distorted during the protest but the insurance wasn't going to cover it because it was under the COVID-19 lockdown. I think we're gonna see something in the new episode about that. 

Two things to be taken out of this episode: one what's going with Luke and Emily as they seem distant yet still helping each other with a case to get her client out of jail and to the hospital; due to COVID-19 but died. They took a break during the COVID-19 and yet it seems that Luke has moved on with Sam. Wow!

Second thing: While Carmichael not only was dealing with that cop situation and case, there was something else going on as well. Her husband had been quarantined at the time of the cop situation, but there was something that we see back and forth during the flashbacks. 

We come to find out that Judge Carmichael is expecting a baby. And come to find out that there's a viral video of her standing up against that cop, which doesn't look too good right now.

I have to admit that I enjoyed this season's premiere. I thought they really addressed the Black Lives Matter really well and even the COVID-19 stuff as well. I thought that Simone Missick gave a great performance in this season's premiere. 

The tension between Mark and Lola was so good with each other having different opinions of what had happened that night during the protesters and cop. Could their friendship still be in jeopardy? 

Meanwhile, seeing Emily and Luke being distant from each other (besides for COVID reasons), until they tried to help her client. I was like was it me but weren't they on great terms dating and having a nice evening with a meal and a glass a wine? Apparently, time really did pass and they're on a break. Wow! That took me a bit surprised. 

As for the shocker (depends on what the shocker would be in this case), the viral video was a shocker over the pregnancy. That doesn't mean I was shocked but I did figure it out as we see certain moments like Sherri helping her with ideas to calm down and finding a new law clerk. But I can't wait to see what comes with this story arc with her Lola and her husband and even her judge career. 

Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

I know a teaser promo isn't much to go with but it sure does get me in the excitement for the new season that's coming just around the corner.

I really enjoyed the first season, it had some issues but I thought the characters were very interesting while some of the stories had seen before in previous law drama series. I love the cast and can't wait to see what comes next this season.

CBS Sets Pemieres for NCIS, All Rise, and More in November

 

Looks like CBS will have a fall season after all.

On Tuesday, the eye network has released dates or nine of their 18 returning shows, now that there are full episodes in the can. Show that include NCIS, NCIS New Orleans, NCIS Los Angeles, Young Sheldon, and Mom. 

Also scoring a premiere date us the freshman comedy B Positive starring Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford. 

Also note: There will be "Fan Favorite" episodes from NCIS previous 17 seasons will be closing out Sunday nights starting  Nov.8th until Queen Latifah's The Equalizer is ready to join the mix (where it will lead into NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS New Orleans).

Fall Shows Still Awaiting Premiere Dates: Blue Bloods, Bull, The Equalizer, Evil, FBI, FBI Most Wanted, MacGyver, Magnum P.I, SEAL Team, and The Unicorn.

So it looks like now that CBS has their foot in the door for premiere dates in November. I'm thrilled that these shows are back, especially hearing that All Rise has its premiere set date. I think FBI and FBI Most Wanted will be making their premieres in November. If not then I think they could possibly keep them til the new year for backup purposes.

CBS 2020-2021 Fall Lineup

It's been almost a week since CBS announced it's renewals and cancellations of their 2019-2020 shows and on Tuesday they announced their fall lineup with the only expectation that they haven't got a date yet. Like The CW and Fox, CBS is not saying when it's the new season will launch, the fact that its very stable new schedule is being billed as a "fall" lineup that's been suggested by the execs, who ae somewhat optimistic.

Along with the news, The Amazing Race will follow Survivor on Wednesday, which bumps S.W.A.T. to midseason. Chuck Lorre's new sitcom B Positive has scored the Thursday's post-Young Sheldon perch, sending The Unicorn to 9:30pm.

Also, The Queen Latifah-lead Equalizer reboot will follow 60 Minutes on Sunday, replacing the called God Friended Me. And the new Silence of the Lambs sequel series Clarice is being held for midseason. And the network is looking into a second spinoff in the FBI series.

It looks like CBS is keeping their lineup close to the vest and hoping that they can get their fall lineup by September or so. We will just have to wait and see where things will stand since production starts around June.

CBS Renews FBI, FBI Most Wanted and All Rise

The jury is out as CBS renews three of their dramas!

On Wednesday, CBS has started the renewal and chopping off their shows. Three of them happen to be FBI, FBI Most Wanted and All Rise.

Along with them, the network also renewed 20 other programs as well. FBI just finished their second season; ending the season with a crossover with Chicago PD. FBI Most Wanted and All Rise just finished their freshmen season this week.

I'm super excited for CBS to renew these series as these were the only three series that I've been enjoying after last season cancellation of Life In Pieces.

Connecting with Each Other: All Rise "Dancing at Los Angeles" Season Finale

The season finale of All Rise finds a way to pull of an episode during the COVID-19 crisis and pulls it off very well. Here's a recap.

At the start off the episode, we see everyone zooming each other; while they're doing their exercises and trying to keep their mental status in check during this COVID-19 pandemic. Almost everyone is worried about the backlog of cases as the list gets longer and longer by the day; Judge Carmichael comes up with an idea of doing a test trial using Zoom and lives streaming it or the public.

The first live stream trial is about a man who's in jail for stealing a car and being aggressive with his brother. Lopez and Callan have a difference of opinion of a pled deal. After both brothers were arguing during the trial; Carmichael looks back and talks to her mother about a message that she tried to understand; that pretty much was suitable for the case. Soon the two brothers come to terms; with the brother that was in jail got to be released that day to be with his pregnant wife.

Along with seeing Judge Carmichael bonding with her mother; we see how both her and Callan could never be in the same room for a trial. Callan and Amy talk about seriously moving in with each; Lopez and Watkins not only was dealing with the pandemic; but celebrated the night with dinner. But ended with a group dancing that got everyone from the cast, crew, and fans of the show that ended the episode on a high and happy note.

"Dancing at Los Angeles" couldn't have been better as it was such a good hour episode. I thought the overall episode was very good and the cast gives a good performance as they filmed this episode in their homes. The case of the week story was very good and had a good emotional impact. I think while the case of the week was good enough; being distracted and keeping busy was also another theme in this episode; along with thanking the men and women that put their lives on the line for us. That live stream DJ was pretty good and fitting throughout the episode. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

I hope that CBS would consider renewing All Rise for a second season. I very much want to see what comes next for this cast of characters that I very much got invested in.

All Rise Season 1 Episodes 12-20

As All Rise has been one of CBS's biggest new shows this season; the second half of the first season proves it's powerful stories and characters.

I have been amazed at what All Rise has shown this season. With such strong and well-developed characters; plus their interesting and sometimes predictable storylines. While this ensemble cast has shown strong chemistry with one another; some like Simone Missick as Judge Lola Carmichael and Jessica Camacho as Public Defender Emily Lopez have given such strong and powerful performances; as the development of their characters grow.

In the second half of season one, Carmichael deals with helping Judge Lisa Benner with her campaign; as she finds anything dirt that could ruin her chances for the State Attorney General. Also dealing with personal issues like whether or not to continue to be separated from her husband due to their professions.

Meanwhile, Emily Lopez's relationship with former deputy sheriff now turned law in the DA's office, Luke Watkins grows; but takes a couple of steps back at times not only due to their work but personal struggles as well. Lopez still deals with PTSD of her former abusive relationship and it shows in episode 19 "In The Fight" where she defends an abuser in court that affects her.

There have been some humorist moments too like Sherri Kansky, Judge Carmichael's assistant dealing with a fun relationship with an LAPD detective that brings the fun out of the character since the series started. Even her and Carmichael having a breakfast outing too.

Also while I'm loving DDA Mark Callan and Carmichael's relationship as best friends; Callan and Amy Quinn have been a fun relationship to watch.  Even Judge Carmichael's court reporter, Sara Castillo been dating Judge Brenner's son and seeing Brenner finding out by her son picking up Sara's phone by mistake.

I've enjoyed watching All Rise this season; I hope that CBS will give this series a second chance and renew it. I want to see where these characters go; besides the COVID-19 has pretty much ruin the season as it shortens the number of episodes this season. This second half of the season I give an 8/10.

Monday's new episode will have the actors portraying them at their own homes via Zoom/FaceTime due do check-in and spread the awareness of communicating family and friends for support. I'm looking forward to it.

My Top TV Shows I Hope Get Renewed

We're just days away from May, and while that means that summer is just around the corner, we television fans are on edge waiting for the news of our shows to either get renewed or canceled. Here's my top five list of shows that I hope to get renewed!

5. Indebted (NBC): While this might not be on anyone's list to watch, I enjoyed tuning in to watch Fran Drescher be Fran Drescher in this family comedy about how a son and his wife taking in his mother and father because they're in debt. You can catch episodes of Indebted available on NBC.com and the NBC app.

4. All Rise (CBS): This law drama feels like Judging Amy meets Boston Legal, but the ensemble cast is so good with very character-driven stories. While I'm drawn to the stories and characters, I'm more into the friendship of Judge Carmichael and DDA Cullen, which doesn't have a romance tied to it. You can catch episodes on CBS All Access, Google Play, or iTunes.

3. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC): The premise might seem out there, but go with me here: Zoey gets zapped while getting an MRI and develops these powers to see the people around her sing what they feel. This show is the perfect new series this season as it not only makes you laugh but feel and even makes you cry. I've cried a lot (like This Is Us type of crying). You can watch episodes on NBC.com and the NBC app.

2. Bluff City Law (NBC): This was one of my most anticipated new shows at the start of the season, and while it had so much promise, news broke the network decided not to go with more episodes they had ordered. I loved this series as it has great characters and stories, but the premise is so fascinating as it's like LA Law for the little guy in a way. Jimmy Smits and Caitlin McGee have fantastic chemistry. You can watch episodes on NBC.com and the NBC app.

1. Single Parents (ABC): It was last season, the radar series that won me over, and now I worry that this series could be on the chopping block. I love this series as it talks about single parents having this community of friends helping each other. If you like New Girl and Friends, this is the show up your ally. And Taran Killam and Leighton Meester steal the show with their brilliant chemistry. You can catch episodes on ABC.com, Hulu, or Google Play—three more episodes left of this season.

Messy Messy Joyous Holiday: All Rise "Dripsy"/"The Joy of Oz" Fall Finale

"Dripsy"

Making a decision is the hardest thing to do even if you're a lawyer or judge.

After being re-assigned to another courtroom due to leakage; Judge Carmichael comes to making some harsh and tough decisions when it comes to two cases. One was given a warning to a defendant that was stealing cars but pleaded for a warning that he'll change due to family. But that didn't last too long as he did the same thing and was watched live on the news.

The other is trying to help a defendant, who's lawyer was making some horrible calls. When Emily, who has a history with the client, gets involved; she not only fights but proves to the facts that she didn't do it. Also, her first date with Luke started off great yet ended with different opinions on the same case; but in the end, all is good.

And if that wasn't enough for Carmichael, a storm is coming for her when the DA has filed a lawsuit to dismiss her as a judge.

Meanwhile, while trying on a case about a robber who says he was sleepwalking, Mark doesn't believe him but looks into it. He learns that he was actually telling the truth and figured out that the victim falsified her claim. But during this case, after seeing his father for a visit; he sees him get arrested and couldn't find him for a few days. Mark learns that his father is charged for a murder that he didn't do but was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Dripsy" was a very enjoyable episode and at times interesting. Watching Carmichael dealing with two cases that I thought would be a double win turns out to only be one out of the two. Also, lesson learn on this one: always trust your mother. A showdown between Carmichael and DA lawyers should be interesting. Mark's story was very good and watching this character dealing with two different situations. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

"The Joy of Oz:

Twas the last day before Christmas break and all through the courthouse; as a judge faces trial on her actions. While facing the other judges, Judge Carmichael fights for her life to convince that she stands firm and hard on the law. After a couple of rounds, the verdict comes in as Carmichael not guilty.

Meanwhile, Mark gets Amy to represent his father in this murder case. But while that was going on, he had a chance to finally take down a familiar face that led him to want to be part of his father's legal team.

Also, since it's Christmas Judge Brenner gets the DA's and others to perform The Wizard of Oz on trial. While Emily and Thomas butted heads with each other during this special performance, after Carmichael was trial was over she appears and saved Dorthy.

"The Joy of Oz" was a very good fall finale episode. While it had a Christmas theme going, Carmciahel's trial, Mark's storyline and even learning about Sara's past was amazingly well done. Even when Paul McCrane's character talked to Carmichael near the end of the episode gave me chills and even a tear. But it was when Carmichael gave Sherri a gift was cry time at the way. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Family and Reunion: All Rise "Maricela and the Desert"/"How To Succeed in Law Without Really Re-Trying"

"Maricela and the Desert"

"Maricela and the Desert" was a very good episode from start to finish. It had a very nice balance of seriousiness drama with enough humor to carry this episode well. Judge Carmichael takes a case of a murder that a child testifies that the suspect is her father. But as everything leads to her father being the suspect; Emily Lopez gets the detective on the case to look back and arrested the suspect and learned the truth about what had happened to the child's mother.

Meanwhile, what happens in Vegas might as well come back to the court room. When Mark and Luke, who's chaperone for the day, takes on a case that involves an injuried college student trying to get into a college fraternity; their own witness ends up in Vegas arrested. Mark and Luke head to Vegas to get their witness out but if they want him out they must play the Vegas way with the judge that ended up with a win and another as they won their case.

As I said eariler that I very much enjoyed this episode from start to finish and the performance from the cast was so good. While Missick and Camacho give another strong performance, It was Bethel and Brinson that really was enjoyable to watch that had a buddy-buddy chemistry between one another. If Luke does become a laywer, I hope he works with Mark as I think it would be a real cool duo. Overal, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"How to Succeed in Law Without Really Re-Trying"

When a blast from the past case has been re-opened for appel it turns out to be one of Lola's biggest cases and to make things worst her old nemesis is back.  As Mark takes the case the edvidences doesn't quite hold up like it did years ago, but after many times talking to one of the witness to testify; Mark and even Lola gets the win.

Emily deals with a client that tries to fool the system but while that wasn't the main story for Emily; she comes to terms to sign the divorce papers and even ask Sara if she could be her roommate, which she accpeted.

This episode was good but at times the build up was a bit overdone with Lola and Felice, her nemesis, about the re-trial case. But watching Mark and Lola back to back going over what worked and what's not going to work was very good. Throughout this season, I've very much enjoy watching these two playoff one another as they really show the meaning of friendship. Emily's story was awkward and yet enjoyable as she comes to terms on moving forward with her life. The writing was good with character development between Mark, Lola and Emily. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Entertainment and Love: All Rise: "Fool For Live"/"Uncommon Women and Mothers"

"Fool for Liv"

It's probably one of the most intense episodes of the season "Fool for Liv" felt like it had everything thrown into one episode with Lola taking on a high celebrity trial. But along with the trial, she sees one of the trickiest lawyers in the state, who uses every trick in the book to get this trial in his favor. After a couple of setbacks and a nice B&B stay with Sherri, Lola finally got her courtroom on track and got the convection too.

Meanwhile, Emily tries to get Mark to help her client with a plea that not only he complies with what he knows of the crimes his family had done but not to mention get him out of jail time after his grandmother said he's not protected there. After Emily gives a strong talk to Mark about family, he decides to give the kid a good plea deal that was fair.

I enjoyed this episode very much. It had some intense moments mainly between Lola and the tricky lawyer but heart and growth between Lola and Sherri and Mark and Emily. I thought hat Ruthie Ann Miles gave a nice performance that really stood out. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

"Uncommon Women and Mothers"

While this episode had some good moments, I felt that this episode didn't execute as well as it should have. When an earthquake hits the courthouse, not doing a whole lot in the episode we see Lola reuniting with her mother as she testifies in court for Mark and Emily for an arson case. That case ended pretty well after Lola's mother decided to give her testimony about the accused that ended up with a slap on the wrist.

Meanwhile, Sara and Sherri try to outdo each other as they think they could be better during an emergency situation. Also, Sherri might have a cop stalker who apparently doesn't know how to do the proper paperwork for a warrant.  This, of course, I felt that this was just humor which was quite good. 

While Lola was dealing with her mother, she was dealing with an issue with a cop that wanted a signed warrant to take down a resident that might have illegal guns. While Lola wanted more evidence to this claim but instead the cop goes over her head and gets the warrant signed by another person and was proven right that the residents in the house had a butt-load of guns.

"Uncommon Women and Mothers" was good with character development and story but some just didn't execute the way that I had hoped it would turn out. I would think that with the earthquake that they would be going through something but instead it was just a minor story that could have been something much bigger. The episode had good humor and some good back and forth moments mainly with Simone Missick and Michael Beach. Overall, I give this episode a 7.5/10.

For Love and Truth: All Rise "Devotees in the Courthouse of Love"

Well, last night's episode of "All Rise" was a doozy.

"Devotees in the Courthouse of Love" was a very good and unique type of episode that talked about love, truth, and having fun. Judge Carmichael not only deals with a trial of a nun being accused of stolen money from the church; but for Emily who had to choose between going with a lie or the truth. Callan deals with another round with a friendly foe, Amy, during the trial of a woman who was extortion from her many dates at restaurants. 

I mention love and boy there was plenty of love as well. Not only was Emily dealing with her trial but dealing with how to lose her engagement ring that belonged to her ex's mother. Callan and Amy show signs that maybe they should be together after their trial. This all happens on a day where weddings were in the air at the courthouse; even Carmichael help marry quickly to be parents. But also Judge Lisa Benner, who doesn't show up till near the end, was dealing with a personal issue.

I found this episode very good and so well performed from this ensemble cast. The stories were so solid and unique. Carmichael's story was fun; mainly when she's trying to sneak out to get a muffin and learn how much it costs to be in court. Emily not only deals with her trial; but dealing with trying to get her wedding ring off so she could start fresh with Watkins. The Callan and Amy story was good; even making me think that these two are really meant to be as a couple. And this is probably the first episode that I've enjoyed Marg Helgenberger; as her character deals with a personal issue that connects with the many weddings at the courthouse.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Going with Gut and Truth: All Rise "A View From The Bus"

Will a field trip to the scene of the crime help? Plus can a lawyer trust a detective in a trial to convict a drug kingpin? Here's a recap!

When Carmichael orders the jury on a field trip to witness what happened during a trial; things get a bit bumpy. After everything went smooth, a raid of cops comes and instructs them to go into a nightclub building for protection due to an active shooter. Carmichael sees one of the jurors thinks that it's the defendant's fault.

After coming back to the courthouse safe, Carmichael interviews with each juror to see how they were dealing with the events. With taking only two jurors out; the trial continues and after what a couple of crazy moments from the prosecutor. The jurors find the defendant not guilty.

Meanwhile, Callan has a chance to take down a high profile drug kingpin but there's a question from the detective; that has a previous history with Carmichael in the series premiere episode. Callan not only brings the question to his boss but goes to the detective that didn't think she needed to bring her CI due to fear of his safety.

Soon Callan got to the bottom of it and got to the truth and while he got the detective's CI to confess; but also brought in the detective and her boss in to inform him about the news. It looks like that detective will be gone within a week. 

"A View from the Bus" was a solid good episode with some moments a bit predictable at times. Like when the scene was recreated for the jurors that something was going to happen. But with that were some solid good moments like Lopez and Walkins talking with her client and learning about him more and more. I enjoyed that the most out of this episode more than anything else in this story. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Reflection: All Rise "Sweet Bird of Truth"

With two friends on trial for a video game to the bailiff being mistaken for another person; here's a recap of this week's episode of All Rise.

When Carmichael takes a trial of two friends over a video game, things take what at first is a comedic turn and then just turn to a heartfelt moment. As one friend is suing her best friend for killing her avatar in Warcraft type video game. After a heart to heart talk with one another, the friend takes a plea.

Callan takes a shot at the case of a woman suing a man for racial and attempting to kill her at her work. Whether it might not be a slam dunk of a case, Callan takes it from his boss and after trying to get his client to court, he got the judge to find the dude guilty.

It just wasn't Deputy Sheriff Luke Walkins as he was picked up by the LAPD; as they thought he was vandalism suspect. After letting him go and apologies, it affects Walkins for the rest of the week until his award night. As he gives his acceptance speech, Walkins talks about how we should reflect on the things in this world so they could make it better, even looking at the cop that arrested him.

"Seet Bird of Truth" might be my favorite episode so far this season. It had fun but also heartfelt moments that really won me over. The performances from the cast were very good and mainly from J. Alex Brinson as Walkins and even Bethel too. The episode had very good story plots and character development. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"Show Me The Monkey!" All Rise "Long Day's Journey Into Ice"

As one lawyer gets personal, Judge Carmichael gets a tough trial as a man could face deportation from ICE. Here's a recap!

As Callan tries to convict a young woman but her rich father buys out the witness and the judge grants a mistrial. Callan uses his daddy issues to help that young woman to face her father and making him pay for getting away.

Meanwhile, Judge Carmichael takes on a trial that gets ICE involved in the situation. Trying not only to stop ICE from taking the defendant but also trying to get him a sentence that doesn't have to deal with losing immigration statius, but soon Lopez finds away as she brings in evidence that her client was trying to prove that their local store is selling expired food and soon after Carmichael gives the guy three months in jail, which doesn't hurt his immigration status and doesn't have to deal with ICE.

"Long Day's Journey into ICE" was a very good episode that wasn't an over the top dramedy type of an episode but a good one with a satisfying result. Well written story plots and good character development as well that both Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, and Jessica Camacho gave good performances.  Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
