Open Minds: Black Lightning "The Book of Consequences: Chapter Three: Master Lowry"

Image result for "The Book of Consequences: Chapter Three: Master Lowry"

Will Jefferson catch Tobias and give Jennifer so peace to this madness that she's in? Here's a recap of Black Lightning.

After helping with the police with another Green Light victim, Black Lightning and Gambi search for Tobias and Painkiller from the video cameras at the school; but that turned up dead. Soon Henderson comes to Jefferson for some help a case of a bad cop dead in a burned van. Jefferson gets info from an inside man and gets the info to give Henderson that it was Tobias.

In the meantime, Jefferson confronts Painkiller's mother on the whereabouts and asked her to give a call to meet with him. Jefferson tries to talk with Painkiller and how Tobias uses him. But after he shoots one of his darts, Jefferson stops it and takes it with him, for which I hope he gets Giambi to make something out of it.

Jennifer, who's tired of being cooped up in the house with her unknown and uncontrolled powers. She goes on her walks, she meets with someone, Perenna. She's a therapist with telepathic powers that can help Jennifer with her powers. After the first trial not good, Jefferson confronts Jennifer and apologies that if he could take all this away he could. And that sparked another meeting with Perenna, which helped and looks like she'll be seeing her more and more.

Anissa is trying to fix her relationship with Grace; after being noticed in another relationship on social media. But she turned to her secret vigilante mode with Giambi and take another bag of cash from another drug dealer. It went down as smooth as it could be.

Lynn is dealing with another addition to the ASA team as they bring in a convicted criminal Helga Jace. Not liking the idea, Lynn makes a deal with her in exchange to help with her to cure the kids in the pod. There are a few bumps in the road but I think they'll work it out.

As for Tobias, he trains Painkiller to do the things that Syonide use to do for him. After pushing him, he heads to the cemetery where his sister is placed. Just as he lights the candles and bends down, Henderson and his squad take him down and arrested him. I think he was planning this for a bit.

"The Book of Consequences: Chapter Three: Master Lowry" was a very good episode that had a very mix blend of action and drama. There were many moments, but I think that one of the best moments was when Jefferson hugs Jennifer and apologies to her. I think it gave Jennifer the idea to take another look into meeting with Perenna. I very much enjoyed the introduction of Perenna. Very mysterious, funny and exciting. And I think that Tobias has something planned just before he got arrested. That whole scene just felt funny and weird that something was going to happen but it'll probably come down in episode four. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Black Lightning Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

Truth Comes Out: Black Lightning "The Book of Consequences: Chapter Two: Black Jesus Blues"

The search is on for an escape pod kid. Here's a recap of Black Lightning.

When a pod child with electrokinesis powers is freed and kills an ASA scientist; another escapes with using aerokinesis powers.  Lynn another other scientists try to keep the kid calm but failed. When Lynn tells Jefferson about what happened, Gambi tells them that the child that escape is Wendy Henandez.

But later Lynn learns of one of the kids that came back from the dead is alive and takes in Issa Williams, a  young metahuman who was killed by the police and subsequently rejected by his family. Issa joins the Pierces family for dinner and soon they snap on each other and soon realize that Issa's powers make people spill out the truth. Jennifer helps Issa on how to use his powers by not looking into their eyes.

Meanwhile, while looking Wendy, Black Lightning and Thunder have some differences of using their powers; mainly Thunder showing off to the public as they cheer. But Black Lightning confronts Wendy and eventually was able to shock her out of psychotic spill. Lynn confronts Wendy, who realizes that everyone she knew 30 years ago is gone, opts to go back in the pods until Lynn can find a cure.

Jefferson makes the toughest decision when he resigns as principal, due to high pressure from the school board. But when he tells the students the news but he'll remain as a teacher, the students chant his mantras in support.

After losing Syonide, Tobias makes some loose ends from killing some of his informants that knew him. This is after he's close to a breakthrough on Metahumans. Probably that briefcase he's got from the ASA.

"The Book of Consequences: Chapter Two: Black Jesus Blues" was an amazing episode. With only a little bit of action, the drama really keeps you on your toes with its rich storyline and character development. There were scenes from Thunder showing off and Black Lightning trying to act more responsible to the dinner table truth moment were hilarious. But there were moments like Jennifer helping Issa with his powers to even Jefferson confronting his students on his resignation as principal was powerful even when the students stood up to his motto. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Black Lightning Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

Tensions and Worries: Black Lightning "The Book of Consequences: Chapter One: Rise of the Green Light Babies"

The season premiere of Black Lightning  is finally here; and tensions in the family couldn't be any higher. Here's a recap!

After the events of the season finale, we pick things off just a few days. Tensions grow between the police, government and the community of Freeland are at a tipping point. With the government holding the kids in the pods and won't give them back to their parents. Even dealing with police brutality when it comes to stopping kids when using green light.

Jefferson is dealing with the aftermath of the school board deciding on whether to close down the school or not. If he was gambling with them, it didn't do any good as the board decided to shut down the school for good. So he resigns. It's not the only thing that he has to deal with as he gets confronted by Henderson on who Black Lightning really is.

Lynn gets kicked out of studying the pods; but Gambi gets her back in the ASA system to work on the pods.

Meanwhile, Jennifer's powers are exceeding with her as Anissa shows her a photo of her flouting in the air with bits of energy flying around. Both Lynn and Jefferson both have different opinions on how to help her that it kind of puts tension between them. That's until Jennifer's emotions gets the best of her and her powers is over seen. Jefferson tries to help by given her a hug and absorbed that energy.
Anissa helps with the community. She takes down drug dealers and their money and handed off to the church community, even taken some for herself.

But it doesn't stop there, Fowdy escapes an defeats Syonide in the parking garage and comes to Gambi for help. She tells Gambi that she can get the brief case that Tobais has.  But it doesn't go totally to plan as Tobias shoots her with his harpoon and drags her to him. She escapes and just when you think she's gonna take him down, she misses and jumps out the window. Did she live? Is she dead?

This episode was an amazing season opener. We only got a little bit of what's inside that suitcase: "hell." Can't wait to see how this builds up this season. The writing was strong along with the performances from Williams, China Anne McClain and even Nafessa Williams, who has one of the best fight scenes in the episode that was so well choreography and amazingly shot. I don't think that Fowdy is dead. I just don't think you can't kill off an ASA agent like that ,she's too good.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Black Lightning Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

Super Charge of a Good Time: Black Lightning Season One Recap

From redemption to family affair, Black Lightning Season One was brilliant and literally electrifying!

In the first season, it's been 10 years since Black Lightning shown up. Jefferson Pierce, a high school principal, sees and deals with madness of the political climate of police brutally and more. But when his daughters get in trouble, Pierce brings out Black Lightning and saves them and soon it gets the community buzzing.

With the buzz, it gets Tobias Whale upset; thought that he had killed him years ago. He has a connection with Pierce as Tobias was the one that killed his father, Alvin. Pierce tries to catch Tobias; and gets caught in another storm with the ASA;  who's been doing experimental testing on kids with a drug green light that apparently would give them meta humans.

But Pierce isn't the only one with super powers; he'll learn that both his daughters Anissa and Jennifer. Anissa has super strength and calls herself Thunder while Jennifer has electric powers which shows orange.

Pierce learns the truth from Gambi, his mentor, father figure friend, that he was the he was part of the ASA. Plus he gave Pierce's father information to spell out the ASA's plans. It didn't go well with him and breaks their friendship for a while.

But after Anissa being the bridge between them and helping to stop the abduction of kids; it started to become a family affair with everyone fighting off the ASA and defeating Agent Proctor. But the war isn't quite over as Tobias has the briefcase that Procter left as it put a smile on his face.

The first season of Black Lightning really blew my mind right from the start. It had that classic 70's-80's series vibe with soul music that really made the show a standout. The cast puts out an amazing performance from Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning to China Anne McClain, Christine Adams and not to mention Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias and Jill Scott as Lady Eve.
The show had a strong development of characters and even at times had me amazed with some of the twist and turns of the storylines and well directed. There were scenes in episodes that had me go wow.

Overall, I give this show a 9/10.

You can catch the season two premiere of Black Lightning tonight at 9/8c on The CW.

Black Lightning "Lawanda: The Book of Burial'

Image result for "Lawanda: The Book of Burial

When the town Reverend plans to peaceful march to stop the 100 gang from killing again after Lawanda's death, Jefferson tries to do all he can to stop the march from happening But when that plan doesn't go, he has them go on a detour so he could watch and protect the marchers.

When Jefferson sees someone coming out of the alley with a gun, he jumps into action and stop the man from shooting and shocks him, along with another one who was charging up. Just as things were okay, the march was about to go on til Tobias, who's trying to stop on the orders of Lady Eve, sees what's happened along with that Black Lightning is still alive and shoots but hits the Reverend through and through and even its Khalil too.

With the Reverend doing well, it's Khalil, who won't be as the bullet hit his spinal cord making him not able to walk.

Meanwhile, Anissa tries out her powers, training at the garbage lot and filming it. Later as she researches about genetic mutation, she meets with Grace Choi and soon them seem it hit it off as friends.

I thought that this episode was very good from the beginning to the end. The episode was enough to keep me interested. I thought the performances from the cast was good, each playing equal amount. I've really enjoying Anissa's story arch so far learning her powers and trying to figure out understanding how. Also the nice throwback to comic "The Outsiders" was very good when talking to Grace. Overall, I give this episode a 8/10.

You can catch Black Lightning Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

Black Lightning "Lawanda: The Book of Hope"

Image result for black lightning Lawanda: The Book of Hope

Sometimes in order to see the light of hope, you must see the true darkness that inspires that hope.

After rescuing Jennifer and Anissa, Jefferson tells Lynn that he's done with Black Lightning for good. But thinking that taking done Lala's ring at the hotel, things were still the same after and gets a word full from Lawanda, a mother who's daughter goes to Jefferson's school and is taken by the 100 gang. She tries to get Jefferson to stand up and hope that they'll give her her daughter back but when he tells her to let him handle it, you just can't stop a mother from finding her child. So she confronts Lala and his crew at the hotel while video taping him until she gets killed by him.

Jefferson gets word about Lawanda and shows his frustration to Lynn about how his powers use to mean something: a gift and tells her that he needs to use them. After confronting Gambi for help, Jefferson gets word about Will being killed and the location on Lala. Jefferson comes to Lala as Black Lightning and kicks his butt for a bit til Henderson and the cops got there.

Lala gets news from Henderson that Lawanda came from beyond the grave as he showed him a phone that she captured him shooting her. Soon, Tobis makes his appearance at the jail to see Lala and kills him.

Jefferson admits to Lynn that Black Lightning should be back with the girls grown up and such. Jennifer find her way back after being with her best friend and getting a life lesson from Khalil about life outside the community while Anissa, who's tries opening up to her girlfriend, Grace, about what she expressed in her bathroom, but also uses her powers during a robbery at a store while getting a bottle of aspirin.

"Lawanda: The Book of Hope" was a very good episode and pretty much matches to what the premiere episode was with character development and storytelling. Williams gives another good performance along with McClain and Nafessa Williams. Overall, I give this episode a 8/10.

You can catch Black Lightening Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

Black Lightning "The Resurgence" Series Premiere

Related image

After watching the pilot of The CW's latest DC Comic series Black Lightning, it left me jolting for more (no pun intended).

"The Resurgence" opens up the story of Jefferson Pierce, who's been retired from his duty as Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects of what it had on his family, returns to being the vigilante again after seeing what the community has become with his daughter arrested for protesting, getting pulled over for a crime that he didn't commit due to racial tensions.

But the final straw that made him return was his daughters, Jennifer and Anissa, gets into trouble and kidnapped from Will, a member of the local gang called 100. Jefferson reunites with Gambi, his mentor and friend, and helps him become Black Lightning with a new suit. After rescuing them, couldn't find Will's boss Lala.

But Lala got picked up and brought to the head of the 100, Tobias Whale. Whale gives Lala instructions to kill Black Lightning.

The final scene of the episode ends with Anissa, who's suffering from the trauma that she'd witness, activates her own powers that causes her to break the sink in half.

The episode really got me interesting in the show. I may not know a lot about Black Lightning but after watching the pilot, I'm interested in learning and seeing where the show takes the characters. The show got a lot of attitude and really depicts the real world social issues. Cress Williams is amazing in the pilot and not to mention just watching Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale was pretty stunning. And James Remar as Peter Gambi, Jefferson's mentor and friend, gives a good performance and portrays the character like an Alfred type.  Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Black Lightning Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
