It looks like the end is near for the ABC comedy series.
ABC announced Friday that Fresh Off the Boat will end after the sixth season, according to Vulture.
The show will end in early 2020 with episode 14 and 15 will serve as a two-part series finale. New episodes currently air Fridays at 8:30/7:30c.
The series is loosely inspired by Fresh Of The Boat, the autobiography of chef Eddie Huang, the series stars Randall Park as Louis, Constance Wu as Jessica, Hudson Yang as Eddie, Forrest Wheeler as Emery, Ian Chen as Evan, Lucille Soong as Jeeny, Chelsey Crisp as Honey and Ray Wise as Mavin.
The show took so heat back in May when Wu tweeted her less favorable reaction to the show's renewal for a sixth season. But there will be a spinoff featuring an Indian family whose daughter goes to school with Eddie. The series will be written by FOTB writer-producer Rachna Fruchbom, the episode that will have them introduced to the family hasn't been filmed yet.
While I had a feeling about this might happen; I was all on board that the show should have ended after Season Five. The season finale really served as a nice closure to the series as we see the family as we were introduced in the pilot. Also, I think that after Wu's tweet that ABC set up the show to fail while putting it at 8:30 timeslot while the previous show that had that timeslot also got canceled.
You can catch Fresh Off The Boat tonight at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.
