The Spirit of Toledo: A.P. Bio: "Ride the Ram"/"Kinda Sorta" Season Finale

"Ride the Ram" 

It's school spirit week, and as the school is battling its rival in the annual Ram Championship, Whitlock tries to do what it can to win. Even though the blood drive was ruined, Helen saved the day by giving enough blood to win. But when it came to the principal challenge, Ralph couldn't do it due to his procedure.

 

Jack comes in to help Ralph after he had ruined their time at his birthday dinner the other night. Jack gets on the mechanical ram, and instead of going up against the rival principal, he's going up against Heather's former love crush. After Heather's move on Chad, he gets thrown off, and Jack wins it for the school and Ralph's friendship.

"Ride the Ram" was a delightful and hilarious episode. The Ralph and Jack character relationship is so good in this episode that it gives Jack a rethinking of their friendship that, at times, he denies it. Paula Pell does it once again with another standout supporting performance. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"Kinda Sorta"

In the season two finale, Jack has a one-shot out of Toledo if he helps Sarika get into Harvard. But he and the class must help Sarika make a good impression by changing her outlook and not being so rude-looking. After training, Jack and Sarika meet with the advisor of Harvard, who happens to be someone Jack dated. Yikes!

Jack tries his best not to get sexual with the advisor, but after seeing Lynette with someone else at the bar that night, he is considering going for it. But that all ended when he stopped it and ran to see Lynette, telling her about this dream he had with her and their four fat Toledo kids. The two finally become exclusive as boyfriend and girlfriend.

Jack learned that Sarika had snuck her paper into the advisor's bag and that her aunt was impressed with his book. Jack's got an appointment to see her, but will he go? Also, Jack learns from Ralph that he has a new student...Helen! Helen didn't graduate high school. Oh boy!

"Kinda Sorta" While it felt like two parts of the series finale and season finale, I'm glad that the series was saved and moved to the Peacock Streaming Service. I love this episode! This episode was such a good development for the character of Jack to realize that staying in Toledo isn't all that bad with someone that he has feelings for in Lynette. Also, I can't get enough of the Jack and class dynamic, and helping Sarika was just the icing on the cake. I can't wait to see what Season Three has in store. I hope Elizabeth Alderfer, who played Lynette, returns because she was so good in season two.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Powers to Believe: A.P.: Bio: "Handcuffed"/"Spectacle"

"Handcuffed" 

When Jack needs a new cell phone, he asked Mary to be on her plan; but in return must help her get rid of her boyfriend. Trying to give the bad news to her boyfriend, he doesn't accept and his handcuffed to Jack's mother's stairlift. Jack plays into Mary until it was too late and she goes back to him. That is until Jack stops her and tells her that she can do a lot better than with that guy; in return, the two will share a phone plan and get out of being handcuffed as well.

Principal Ralph can't take the stress of informing his staff of the cuts and moves. But that's when Anthony came in to interview Ralph for the school paper; Anthony helps give the bad news and is given the power to tell everyone from the gym coach to janitor about the changes. Even trying to get out of a B- grade but Helen took care of that after noticing he dipping the chip into way too much dip.

"Handcuffed" was a very good episode. I enjoyed a lot from Mary and Jack's friendship story to Anthony's reign of power. But the one that really had me laughing was Paula Pell's performance as Helen stealing scenes and that dipping the chip into way too much dip was so funny. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"Spectacle" 

There's a talent show but will Jack and his class win it?

As the school talent show is about to begin, Jack thinks he can win it with his class and after searching for some talent from his class he had found it. It was a play and while at first, it was a good idea; Jack turned it and went a whole other direction by using what everyone likes in entertainment from dub music to dancing. At first, it wasn't going so well until Jack went back to the original idea and won the show.

Meanwhile, Mary and Stef try to help Michelle out with her bell concert for the talent show but instead Michelle does it all on her own. While Helen and Ralph come up with who will be the new M.C. the talent show; spoiler alert it's them!

"Spectacle" was so good with the performances from Paula Pell and Patton Oswalt with their chemistry just put to a whole new level. When watching these two I don't think they're doing it on scripted but improvising. I didn't really like the whole bell concert storyline in this episode because it just left too predictable. While Jack and the classmate's story was good on average but had a nice ending to it. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

The Umbrella Academy Season 1

After learning the date for Season Two of The Umbrella Academy, I have finally watched the first season of the comic book series. Here are my thoughts.

It's been over a year since the first season of Netflix's comic book series The Umbrella Academy debuted, and while it's been on my must-see list to watch, I have finally just finished watching it this week and loved every episode. Yes, I was a fool not to watch this when it first debuted, as it's the one issue for me with binge-watching.

I love the first season of The Umbrella Academy as it was so well written, with such in-depth characters that have a little resemblance to X-Men, but better. The season deals with the team assembling after learning about the death of their adopted father. While reunited, the team deals with issues of their own, but when a team member returns from the future to learn of the apocalypse to happen in a few days.

There are many twists and turns as we watch a lot of backstories that don't mess up anything with the story and characters. But the one thing about this series with a strong theme is family. Superhero may be one thing, but this series is about family.

This ensemble cast gives such a strong performance for each of their characters. Aidan Gallagher, playing Number Five, was one of the most fun and exciting characters in this series. Robert Sheehan gave one of the best performances of the character, as he showed a lot of character growth. Also, Sheehan's Klaus was one of my favorite characters. But it was Ellen Page as Vayna/Number Seven stole season one with her performance, still leaving me thinking about her character and what comes next.

That also implies how the season ended, as the apocalypse was still coming to the team after saving Vayna, joined hands with Number Five to time travel. What happens next, I'm dying to see. I will not make the same mistake I did a year ago by waiting over a year to watch the first season. When July 31st comes, I'll be tuning in to Netflix to watch it.

Overall, I give this season of The Umbrella Academy a 9/10. You can now catch The Umbrella Academy's first season on Netflix, with Season 2 coming on July 31st.

Still the Best Drama: The Blacklist Season 6-7 Review

Season 6

After the shocking moment in the fifth season finale, the sixth season took off with exciting thrills and drama that pushed the level of Liz and Red's relationship. As Liz knows that her father, Raymond Reddington is dead and someone is impersonating Reddington, she betrayed him by setting him up to get arrested.

Throughout the season, as Reddington's trial goes underway, Liz has a change of heart with Reddington as she learns the truth about what really had happened between him and her mother. Soon as Red is free, both Red and the task force are put against the United States of America President and his staff, the way that Red and the team helped get Liz out of custody against the Director back in season three.

The season ended well enough to have a cliffhanger of Reddington meeting with Liz's mother, who kidnaps Reddington at the end.

Season Six was one of the best seasons so far in the series. The season elevated to another level with brilliant wiring, character development, and performances from the cast. While Season three and five were the top two best seasons of the series, this one ranks right along with them. Overall, I give this season a 9.5/10.

Season 7

The Seventh Season of The Blacklist was as good as it could have gotten. The season saw Liz learning of her mother, who happened to be staying across the hall from her. Liz is divided between Red and her mother on who is telling the truth. Still, with Red not telling what she needs to know, she leans more towards her mother by the end of the season as she finally embraces the evil power that she's been feeling this season during the season finale.

This season we saw Ressler's backstory dealing with his brother, who helped him get rid of a dead body of a cop that had killed their dad twenty years ago. And the team takes on a new team member, Aliana Park, who has a history with Reddington and is not the good one.

The seventh season of The Blacklist has proven that it's not running out of gas. The show still brings the best out of these characters. Week to week, episode after episode, the series still shows it's got teeth, and there are times when shows do show that they're running out of gas. Brilliant writing and character development, along with another season of great performances from the cast, mostly Megan Boone, who's given such a strong performance this season. Al Roker deserves an Emmy nomination for his guest-starring role this season in the 150th episode. Overall, I give this season of The Blacklist a 9.5/10.

An Emotional Goodbye: The Good Place "The Final Chapter: Whenever You're Ready" Series Finale

Note: I apologize for not writing this up and posting it. It's been almost four months since this aired. And well, let me say that after watching it the first time, it was tough to protect it during the second time because it was so emotionally powerful.

The series finale of The Good Place might be one of the best finale endings in quite a long time, and saying goodbye to these characters is overwhelming emotions. The episode picks up as everyone enjoys their time in A Good Place, from learning ethics to seeing everyone doing their own thing and being happy. The new system looks to work for the best as the Judge learns from Michael and Chidi.

But things took a turn quickly when Justin won the Super Bowl in the video game with his dad, and he felt it was time for him to leave. After throwing a party, Justin walks with Janet to the doors to the universe. Tahani reunited with her sister and learned that their parents had passed the system, but what they had expected wasn't the case with their parents as they showed love and affection. After many moments, she decides she's ready, but instead of leaving, she wants to be like Michael and work as an intern.

Later, Eleanor learns that Chidi is on the verge of wanting to leave and tries to keep him here by taking him to all the places he loves. But Eleanor knows that to be happy, she can't ruin someone's happiness, too. After an emotional and memorable scene of the two at sunset, Chidi leaves Eleanor while sleeping. But a surprise comes when, just as Chidi walks into the door to the universe, Justin pops out to give Janet the necklace he had made for her, and after another moment, he walks with Chidi.

Soon, Eleanor felt it was time; she brought Mindy St.Clare to The Good Place to agree to take the test. She gets the Judge to grant one last favor for Michael; he becomes a real-life boy who goes to Earth and lives out his best life, from learning guitar to cooking a meal in the microwave.

Just before Eleanor leaves, she talks with Janet and has one last drink with her. Soon, she walks into the door to the universe to see her body turn into stars, where one falls to Earth to a man who almost threw out someone's mail but returned it, that happens to be Michael.

"Whenever You're Ready" was one of the best series finales since Parks and Recreation. The finale felt like a natural closure to the series, with the characters deciding to leave or stay and become something else, like Tahani wanting to do what Michael has done. Each character had a memorable moment; the one that stuck was Chidi and Eleanor with that sunset, in which Chidi described the ocean waves. This episode should get an Emmy nomination for best writing. Overall, I give this episode a 10/10, while the season gets a 9.5/10.

Single Parents Canceled; ABC and Hulu Should Saved It

The news on Thursday wasn't what I had expected; ABC announced that they'd canceled Single Parents after two seasons.

The series was about single parents helping raise each other and their children. If you're a fan of New Girl and Friends, this show might be the one to watch. The recently canceled series was my favorite comedy out of the ABC network, with The Conners. The series wasn't just well-written, but the characters were so grounded and so well-connected. The chemistry of this ensemble cast is so irresistible no matter who you pair one another within an episode.

But if I had to choose one pair I'd enjoyed through this series, it was Taran Killam and Leighton Meester's Will Copper and Angie D'Amato. While the two are best friends, they come to terms in the second season that they have feelings for one another. It wasn't till the season finale (that's now a series finale) that Angie learned Will's feelings for her. And you can't tell me we can't get the third season after that moment?

Yes, I'm very much upset and sad about the news. I looked forward to seeing where Will and Angie would go after that cliffhanger. With what's going on with COVID-19, I would think that the network would want to keep a good chunk of their shows (they picked up 13 shows for renewal). While a few of the shows that got picked up over, Single Parents had about the same Live+3 Days DVR rating, but Single Parents had a higher DVR in the L+7 rating.

But the thing that has stuck in my mind since the announcement that ABC is renewing shows that build a strategy to bring people together, create cultural moments, and make content that entertains and inspires across generations and demographics. Single Parents fits that model that the network's plan for the new season. The series has a substantial diversity that appeals to many people who are single and raising kids.

While I think ABC had made a wrong decision, they could have placed the series on their streaming service, whether it's Hulu or Disney+. Be more like what NBC did with A.P. Bio. The series ran for two seasons till it got canceled until NBC picked it up and placed it on their streaming service, Peacock Streaming Service. Hulu fits best for the show with the content of humor and all. I would plead to ABC to reconsider saving the show.

This show spoke to me over a year ago after hearing about it from many people. I watched the entire first season and fell in love with it after the second episode. The characters just spoke out, and the humor was so funny, and I got all the jokes. The show has a lot of heart, with moments that made me want to grab a tissue or another glass of wine. Back in April, my grandmother and I watched not only the first season but catching up in the second season as well. She loved it. It's a different family show without taking the meaning of family out of it.

I'm just hoping there's a miracle for another show, like The Mind Project, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, One Day at A Time, and The Last Man Standing, that had gotten saved from other networks and streaming services. A show like Single Parents shouldn't be left out; it deserves to be on, as it has five to seven seasons ahead of it.

The hashtag #SaveSingleParents was trending yesterday, as the fans have voiced their opinions and even signed a petition. Could this help? I hope so; we've seen shows get picked up before because of fans speaking out. Maybe we can get Single Parents to be the next one. Come on, ABC, don't be like Netflix or make the same mistake with Last Man Standing.

Batwoman Season 1 Review

Exciting, character-driven, and full of action!  Here are my thoughts on the first season of Batwoman.

While the first season had some issues; I still quite enjoyed it very much. The series keeps the Batman anthology theme of dark, gritty, and very, very action-packed. But the one that I do enjoy the most out of this series was the strong character development. While Rudy Rose shows a lot of growth in the first season, she plays very well in the dramatic fashion; but also in the humor category too when Kate tries to learn the ropes of being Batwoman.

Along with Rose, Rachel Skarsten steals the show with her performance as Alice/Beth Kane. Skarsten's character was so interested that she had me more invested in the show than just watching Batwoman fight crime.  While both Kate and Alice have this Batman-Joker dynamic going; their relationship of sisters adds more depth. But it's the character's strong background story and development that wins the season over the other characters.

One of the things that I had an issue was the character development of Sohpie Moore. Moore, at the first half of the season, felt like a soap opera character; with one of the storylines being that her going to tell Kate's dad that she's Batwoman. But by the second half of the season, the character develops well enough.

While Crisis Part 2 was my favorite episode of the crossover event; other episodes like "Tell Me the Truth" with both Kate and Luke teaming with Julie Pennyworth, who I wish to stay on from time to time as they play well with one another. "Take Your Choice," "A Narrow Escape," "Off with Her Head" and "Through the Looking Glass" were a few of the episodes that stood out this first season with such entertaining, action, and amazing character development. And while the season finale ended with HUSH becoming the doppelganger of Bruce Wayne; I don't believe the show will ruin Bruce Wayne's character. Overall, I give this season one an 8.5/10.

I can't wait for Season two, but sad that Rudy Rose left the show. while I respect her for her decision to leave. I just hope that the show will find a way to address the change; whether it's a new actress taking on Kate Kane or a new character.

ABC Cancels Single Parents and Bless This Mess; Renews 13 Shows

On Thursday, ABC announced that it's canceling the sophomore series Single Parents after two seasons.

Along with Single Parents, Bless This Mess, Emergence and Schooled were also canceled. The network has renewed 13 shows that include The Rookie mixed-ish and Stumptown.

The May 13 season finale, which will serve as a series finale had Angie going to Barstow with Graham's father only to remember that a drunken Will confessed his love to her.

This news comes to a shock to me as Single Parents was one of my favorite shows on ABC along with The Conners. This series was brilliant in the characters along with the chemistry with such an amazing ensemble cast. I thought that this series had a better shot getting renewed over the other bubble shows. I just hope the fans can get something going to maybe get Hulu to support the show.

Superstore Season 5 Review

For Season Five of Superstore, the show doesn't lose a beat.

While the fifth season was cut short of its original season run; I thought that this season of the comedy series was so brilliant and hilarious. The Amy storylines this season with her dealing with corporate and trying to get to the top was good. Also, her and Manto's storyline was funny at times but heartwarming. The trio of Jonah, Cheyenne, and Garrett was hilarious; I loved this season was Sandra, Jonah, and Garrett as they were dealing with new corporate phones. 

While the ensemble cast was brilliant; Kaliko Kauahi as Sandra was not only amazing but stole the season with her performance. From episodes of her wedding and dealing with Carol this season, she deserves to win the MVP for this season. Also, Lauren Ash gave some great moments too; from meeting her father to dealing with the loss of her birds and getting back at Garrett.

And while the season finale was supposed to have Amy leaving Superstore; the episode that aired as the season finale did have an ending of a goodbye. I do hope that America Ferrera would come back for an episode to give a fair sendoff, which I think her character deserves. 

I loved how this season the show kept the characters grounded and never dummy them down at all with such rich storytelling. Season after season the show elevates and gets better and better. Season five is that example and one that anyone who hasn't seen it should watch it. Brilliant writing and brilliant performances from the ensemble cast. Overall, I give this season a 91/0.

CBS 2020-2021 Fall Lineup

It's been almost a week since CBS announced it's renewals and cancellations of their 2019-2020 shows and on Tuesday they announced their fall lineup with the only expectation that they haven't got a date yet. Like The CW and Fox, CBS is not saying when it's the new season will launch, the fact that its very stable new schedule is being billed as a "fall" lineup that's been suggested by the execs, who ae somewhat optimistic.

Along with the news, The Amazing Race will follow Survivor on Wednesday, which bumps S.W.A.T. to midseason. Chuck Lorre's new sitcom B Positive has scored the Thursday's post-Young Sheldon perch, sending The Unicorn to 9:30pm.

Also, The Queen Latifah-lead Equalizer reboot will follow 60 Minutes on Sunday, replacing the called God Friended Me. And the new Silence of the Lambs sequel series Clarice is being held for midseason. And the network is looking into a second spinoff in the FBI series.

Midseason: Clarice, S.W.A.T., and Undercover Boss

It looks like CBS is keeping their lineup close to the vest and hoping that they can get their fall lineup by September or so. We will just have to wait and see where things will stand since production starts around June.

Together We Stand: Supergirl Season 5 (Ep. 10-19) Review

The second half of the fifth season of Supergirl goes pretty fast into the post-crisis but delivers very well. SPOILERS!

While the second half of the fifth season of Supergils had some issues; it still delivered some awesome, exciting, and dramatic moments for this season. I loved out rounded and developed the characters this season with Brainy coming with his past and working with Lex Luther; while being in control of the DEO. Or Kara and Lena's relationship taking a nasty turn that Lena has to come to terms along with Kara about their decisions. Even Nia deals with her first experience of using power to help her roommate after she was attacked. And not only Alex dealing with the death of her father but gets a cool kick-ass suit.

This season really brought back characters; one of them that I'd really enjoyed was the return of Wynn in the two-part episode "Back from the Future." While it brought back a reunion; it also brought a bit of closure for Wynn; as he battles an evil doppelganger but also gets his father's appreciation too.  And while "Alex In Wonderland," Reality Bytes" and The Bottle Episode," were very good; "It's a Super Life," the 100th episode, was the most memorable episode; as it gives Kara a chance to try to fix her relationship with Lena but doesn't end well. And the ending with both Kara, Alex, and J'onn toasting to each other was a happy tear moment; as these three have been together since the pilot.

Now the one or two issues that I have had were some of the stories; as it was confusing at times after Crisis. I had to re-watch episodes; just so I could understand it better. The other was the character development of Andrea Rojas and Arcata; as I thought that in the second half of the season her character wasn't as effective as she was in the first half and that they just kind of wrote her to be here and there. Julie Gonzalo did give some very good performances.

I'd very much enjoyed the second half of the season. It had a lot of great moments in character development. And while the season was cut short of three episodes due to the COVID-19; I thought the season finale had a nice wrapped up to the season. While I give the second half of the season an 8/10. I give this overall season an 8.5/10.

Growing and Laughing: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7

 
The seventh season of the NBC comedy literally delivers the goods, laughs, and moments that make you grabbing tissues.

The seventh season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine had really turned up not only the humor but the character development with these stories. We see Amy and Jake push their plans to have a baby, and while they try, they have some issues conceiving. Watching these two dealing with that was just brilliantly well done. But they ended up pregnant and having a baby boy in the season finale, which fits perfectly well for these two.

Meanwhile, Holt deals with his demotion from Captain to patrol officer and has a partner named Debbie (played by Vanessa Bayer), brilliant this season. And while we see Holt dealing with Madeline Wuntch's punishment, he does get his Captain position back after the death of Madeline. Rosa deals with her breakup from her girlfriend, yet her relationship with Amy grows so well this season. But it was the annual Halloween heist that happened to take three different times; it ended up her winning all three, making her the first three-time winner.

This season brought back many familiar faces from Adrian Pimento, who believed that he was being killed but forgot his memory. Doug Judy returns and has a bachelor party with Jake but has to pull a reverse heist before getting caught. Teddy returns as both he, Amy, and Rosa compete for the best stroller, but Rosa loses, but their friendship grows. J.K. Simmons comes to B99 and blows away in "Dillman," who's one of the best detectives that Holt worked with back in the day. Simmons needs to have a cop comedy series right now.

This season had a lot to give and take in as well. The writing was brilliant, and the performances were amazing as well. Melissa Fumero gave such a great performance in the episode "Trying." Vanessa Bayer was so good this season as Debbie, a patrol officer who didn't want to get into danger; but later stole drugs from the lockup for a well-known drug dealer. I felt so bad for her character. And as much as I loved the Halloween heist episodes, The Jimmy Jab Games II might have topped this season as it was just hilarious balls to the wall. Overall, I give this season a 9/10.

The CW 2020-2021 Fall Schedule: Scripted Series Pushed to 2021, Supergirl set to Midseason

On Thursday, The CW becomes the second network in this wacky unconventional for the May Upfronts with its fall schedule. But the thing is that they're planned fall schedule will have an asterisk because their series won't premiere till January 2021.

With the acquirements of series, the network will be airing those along with unscripted programs and the reaming episodes of the final season of Supernatural. In 2021, the new rebooted Walker Texas Ranger series Walker will take Supernatural's timeslot.

With that in mind, Supergirl will be pushed back to midseason sometime around spring or summer due to accommodate Melissa Benoist's real-life pregnancy. Charmed will take Supergirl's Sunday timeslot. Superman and Lois, the new series, will get the 9pm slot following The Flash in 2021. And still no word on Katy Kane's renewal status yet.

And the Arrowverse crossover won't be as big as it was the last few seasons. Expect a smaller group with Superman and Batwoman.

This looks to be a sign of what's to come with other networks. With what FOX and The CW have announced this past week, NBC just picked up Transplant ( a canceled season 1 series).

"When You Only got 100 Years to Live:" Single Parents "No. Wait. What? Hold On" Season Finale

The season finale of Single Parents asked the one big question: Will Angie and Will admit their feelings for one another? Here's a recap!

Picking up seconds from last week's episode, Will and Angie are freaking out nearly the wild and crazy night they had just had. As soon as they try to figure out what has happened, Miggy, Poppy, Doug, and their kids show up to help pack up. As soon as Derek shows up, Angie takes Poppy to the other room and tells her what had happened and that she couldn't remember who cuddled who first. While Will tells Doug and Miggy about his feelings for Angie and that he might have been the one who cuddled.

Poppy and Doug help make Angie and Will's relationship happen, but Derek makes Will stop it all after thanking him for helping out with Angie and Graham. But while Angie was packing in her room, she saw Will's laptop of a slide show of her and Will with the song "100 Years." Will tries to tell Angie that he loves her but instead wishes her the best with Derek for the summer.

Meanwhile, Miggy tries to help Rory decide who stays at Angie's house for the summer in a bachelor-style decision. I think it might have been Jared.

As Angie says her goodbyes, Doug gives her some JAG snacks but tells Will not to watch their show without or remember to miss her. As soon as they leave, Will plays the song while they clean up Angie's house. But as Angie listens to the music, she goes through her bag with that candle, and after smelling it, she remembers the moment she cuddled and heard Will tell her that he loves her.

"No. Wait. What? Hold On" was such a funny and intense season finale. The fierce parts come at times when playing with the Will and Angie characters, whether or not they will tell each other their feelings for one another. As much as Will wants to tell Angie that he loves her, I thought it was heartbreaking and intelligent to have him not tell her. Will is a character who cares for Angie, and after a moment with Derek that ends with a thank you and hug, he's given up his feelings for her to try being happy with Derek.

I'm hoping for a season three for this series. This show is brilliant in its way, with heart and humor. I want to see season three right now, this time tomorrow, to see where this goes. You can catch Single Parents on ABC.com, Hulu, or Google Play.

FOX 2020-2021 Fall Schedule: LA's Finest Joins Network; While 911 & 911 Lonestar pushed to Midseason

On Monday, Fox has announced its Fall Schedule with some of its scripted series moving to midseason while they put in new scripted series that was meant for midseason moving ahead into the fall The network also picked up Spectum's original series LA's Finest airing both first two seasons. While they've got plenty of sports with NFL and all, they're just hoping that they could produce new Masked Singer episodes to hold up. Here's a look at the fall schedule.

I don't know about you but I'm very looking forward to finally seeing LA's Finest. I see Fox has been very conservative with their programming by using a few of their new series first and to save the returned one during midseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Explaining and Sharing: Single Parents "Look, This is Obviously a Sexy Situation"/"A Night of Delicate Frenching"

"Look, This Is a Sexy Situation" 

With the group knowing that Poppy and Doug broke up, Will, Angie, and Miggy try to be there for them but also try to fix it.

Angie has Poppy over at her house to talk about her feelings and learns that she didn't tell Doug about why they broke up. Angie tells her that she should tell him that Derek is there to take Graham, and Poppy sees the two hitting it off as if they're in a relationship. After an argument, both Angie and Poppy apologize, and both agree to face on with what they were afraid to do: Poppy tells Doug that she wants a baby (they still end up breaking up).

Meanwhile, as Will and Miggy try to help Doug, there's only one person who can help Doug, and that is President Ronald Regan at the Ronald Regan Museum. But soon, the kids found out, and as Rory knew where Doug was, he would murder him. But instead, the two talked and had a heartwarming moment.  While waiting for Doug, Will tells Miggy that having a relationship within the group shouldn't happen, but Miggy disagrees and tells Will that he's proud of them and that you should hold feelings about someone.

Later, Will drives to Angie's house to talk, and just as he is going to talk about his feelings for her, Angie drops the bomb that she will travel with Derek this summer. Ouch!

"Look, This is a Sexy Situation" was a hilarious episode from beginning to end, as the ending was more heartbreaking for Will. That moment when Will finds out about Angie moving with Derek for the summer, they got the heartstrings pulling. Meanwhile, the moment with Doug and Rory talking about how even though they never liked each other this past year, they've grown a lot to like each other. Overall, there was good writing and character development in this episode. I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"A Night of Delicate Frenching" 

As Poppy and Doug move on from their breakup, their kids think of a way to get them back together. They devise a way to make them jealous of their relationship, with Doug getting an Instagram account and showing fun time photos, while Poppy requests and shouts out to her new relationship on the radio. Soon, Poppy and Doug catch on and punish them; the twins have to suffer watching Parent Trip.

Will's plan to keep Angie home backfires as Graham gets to go with Sophie to Lance Bass Space Camp. She also loses her job, and Will tries to get it back for her. That made Angie very upset, and soon the two argued about it. Shortly after the power went out, the two apologized while lighting up cheap candles and opening up twist cap wine to cheer for their one last night as friends. The following day the two wake up face to face in the room, freaking out.

"A Night of Delicate Frenching" was an excellent and hilarious episode. I'd enjoy this Rory and Twins storyline more than the Christmas episode. I even loved and agree that Parent Trip is such an evil movie. Could Angie and Will have shown their genuine feeling for one another during that night? I hope so and that the season finale will end up the beginning of their relationship. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

CBS Renews FBI, FBI Most Wanted and All Rise

The jury is out as CBS renews three of their dramas!

On Wednesday, CBS has started the renewal and chopping off their shows. Three of them happen to be FBI, FBI Most Wanted and All Rise.

Along with them, the network also renewed 20 other programs as well. FBI just finished their second season; ending the season with a crossover with Chicago PD. FBI Most Wanted and All Rise just finished their freshmen season this week.

I'm super excited for CBS to renew these series as these were the only three series that I've been enjoying after last season cancellation of Life In Pieces.

Together as a Family: Fresh Off The Boat "Family Van"/"Commencement" Series Finale

The one-hour series finale leaves the Huangs with a lovely bow to end the series. Here's a recap!

In the first half-hour, the episode "Family Van" deals with the Huangs saying goodbye to their family van after it breaks down trying to go to Disney World. While Louis tries to save his van, Jessica gives it up after learning nothing can be done to save it. Louis goes on memory lane while Jessica tries to blow it off until when they go car shopping, she steals the van that looks like theirs. Jessica tells Louis that her grieving process was to bury it, but after Louis kept pushing her and pushing her, they came to miss the van.

Meanwhile, after finding a measured map in the van, Eddie, Emery, and Evan go on a road trip to their home in D.C. to find their time capsule. While Eddie looks forward to having an adventure with his brothers, Emery and Evan aren't as seeing Eddie dealing with an upset stomach from gas station hot dogs. But as soon as Emery and Evan found their time capsule, they realized that Eddie wanted to spend enough time before leaving for college.

The second half-hour, the episode "Commencement,t" deals with when Eddie tells Jessica and Louis that he scored 1500 on his SATs, and that gets Jessica to turn a 360 as she's pleased about her accomplishments with Eddie.

Jessica was so happy that she took Eddie off of housework and even did the dishes. They spend the day buying clothes and such and soon get an interview with Harvard. However, after the interview with Andy Ritcher, they learn that Eddie might not get in because of Jessica's helicopter parenting.
But Eddie tells Jessica that he doesn't want to go to Harvard, as he wants to go to Culinary school and work at Cattlemen. Even though it took her a while to come to terms, she was on board with Eddit.

Meanwhile, Emery and Evan come to different terms with Evan's memoir and using stories from Emery and even helping the birth of Honey's first baby. Emery gets back at Evan by running for his seat on the neighborhood council. Evan sees the probable and apologies to Emery and Honey about the memoir.

Jumping to 2008, and while we see that Louis and Jessica are at Harvard for graduation, we don't quite know whose graduation it was until we learn that Evan graduated with high honors and gave his commencement speech. We see Jessica, Louis, Eddie, Emery, and Grandma celebrating Evan's graduation.

"Family Van" and "Commencement" are excellent episodes and place a nice bow to end the series. While it might not have been the most incredible series finale of all time, it was an accurate fitting to see these characters where they ended up happy and together as a family. Was this better than the Season 5 finale? Yeah, it was. The writing was so good, and the cast gave such excellent and memorable performances, like Constance Wu, who I hope gets an Emmy nomination. Overall, I provide these episodes with a 9/10. I give the season a 9.5/10.

Connecting with Each Other: All Rise "Dancing at Los Angeles" Season Finale

The season finale of All Rise finds a way to pull of an episode during the COVID-19 crisis and pulls it off very well. Here's a recap.

At the start off the episode, we see everyone zooming each other; while they're doing their exercises and trying to keep their mental status in check during this COVID-19 pandemic. Almost everyone is worried about the backlog of cases as the list gets longer and longer by the day; Judge Carmichael comes up with an idea of doing a test trial using Zoom and lives streaming it or the public.

The first live stream trial is about a man who's in jail for stealing a car and being aggressive with his brother. Lopez and Callan have a difference of opinion of a pled deal. After both brothers were arguing during the trial; Carmichael looks back and talks to her mother about a message that she tried to understand; that pretty much was suitable for the case. Soon the two brothers come to terms; with the brother that was in jail got to be released that day to be with his pregnant wife.

Along with seeing Judge Carmichael bonding with her mother; we see how both her and Callan could never be in the same room for a trial. Callan and Amy talk about seriously moving in with each; Lopez and Watkins not only was dealing with the pandemic; but celebrated the night with dinner. But ended with a group dancing that got everyone from the cast, crew, and fans of the show that ended the episode on a high and happy note.

"Dancing at Los Angeles" couldn't have been better as it was such a good hour episode. I thought the overall episode was very good and the cast gives a good performance as they filmed this episode in their homes. The case of the week story was very good and had a good emotional impact. I think while the case of the week was good enough; being distracted and keeping busy was also another theme in this episode; along with thanking the men and women that put their lives on the line for us. That live stream DJ was pretty good and fitting throughout the episode. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

I hope that CBS would consider renewing All Rise for a second season. I very much want to see what comes next for this cast of characters that I very much got invested in.

Spinoff and Advice: Fresh Off the Boat "The Magic Motor Inn"/"Mommy and Me"

"The Magic Motor Inn" 

When Evan is worried about the spelling bee, Eddie tries to get him help from a three-time champion  Simryn, a former classmate. While Eddie takes Evan to get her help; he has Trent looking out for his SAT scores just in case Jessica gets a hold of them. But soon Eddie learns that he scores high and Evan learns that while Eddie might not have studied just as hard as he, even Simryn didn't either as they are both naturals.

Eddie tells Evan that his natural is studying hard than the rest of the people and that got the encouragement to be in the spelling bee. Which I think probably won.

Meanwhile, Emery must find a job or he won't be having anything new or to eat. While Louis gave him the benefit of the doubt; Jessica made sure Emery got a job and a job he has got as a shirtless model at the mall. While Jessica tries to hide it from Louis; he finally learned pretty fast about Emery's new job.

"The Magic Motor Inn" was a very good episode from start to finish. This is the episode that has a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff that I'm very much interested in watching and hopefully ABC will go for it. Megan Suri was very good and funny along with making Mandy Moore references. All in all, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

"Mommy and Me"

When Honey asks Jessica for advice about kids clinging to their mothers; what Jessica didn't know was that her advice was going to hit her right back. Just as Jessica was recording the audiobook of her novel, Evan comes home in tears as his girlfriend had broken up with him. This turns Evan into cloning to Jessica in the creepiest way.

After trying and trying, finally, grandma played a recording of Jessica talking about how clinging he has been with her and that pretty much snapped that with Evan.

Meanwhile, Louis, Eddie, and Emery are burger hopping trying out burgers that is until Emery decides that he's going vegan. After doing to a vegan burger shop, Eddie and Louis decide to go on without Emery to a burger joint with Trent. While hurting Emery's feelings, Louis and Eddie come up with a new burger at the Cattleman's of a vegan burger that Emery enjoys.

"Mommy and Me" was a very funny episode. I've always enjoyed an episode story with Jessica and Evan and this one was no expectation. I'd very much enjoyed this and even the Louis and the boys dealing with eating vegan burgers. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Family and Work: Fresh Off The Boat "Jessica Town"/"A Seat at the Table"

"Jessica Town"

For the final season of Fresh Off the Boat, their final Christmas episode will be marked as perfect. Just like Jessica's Christmas.

Like Louis with Halloween, Christmas is Jessica's holiday and as she tries to make this holiday season perfect; Louis tries to help her out because he wants to spend time with her this season by ice skating. Of course, Jessica sees that Louis is doing things wrong to her with the Christmas cards and the gingerbread house. That is until she realizes and tries to make it up with Louis by going ice skating but Louis ends up with two broken arms and Jessica getting her perfect gift: a couple ice skating for her Jessica Town.

Meanwhile, Evan and Eddie accidentally broke Honey's gift for Marvin, a navy nutcracker. In order to find a replacement, Emery works as a mall elf and it's not even pleasant. As Evan tries to get the nutcracker at the mall, he steals it instead. But by the time Honey comes back to wrap the gift; grandma hands the nutcracker to her as she bought it to help the boys in return for their gift cards.

"Jessica Town" was probably one of my favorite episodes of the season and could be the best holiday episode of the tv season. While Eddie, Evan, and Emery's story were very good and hilarious; Jessica and Louis' story was so heartwarming and funny as it brought so much Christmas spirit. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

"A Seat at the Table" 

As Jessica gets to be a Dean at a college; she learns that they didn't hire her for her ideas but for being diverse. Trying to figure out whether to quit or not; Louis's advice was to play the long game and so she did. After an incident, Jessica took to press conferences and not only promise to fix the diverse issues but also fooled the president of the college too.

Meanwhile, Evan sees that Emery and Eddie don't hang out during school and wished that they could do that before Eddie graduates. After Eddie tries to hang out with Emery and his drama club, things took a dip but Evan tries to fix it but Eddie and Emery gave what Evan wanted during his math club.

"A Seat at the Table" was a very funny episode: mainly with the character mispronouncing wong phrases. I thought the cast gave a good performance in this episode. Plus Mr. Buns! Overall, I give this episode an 8,5/10.

Helping and Answering: Fresh Off The Boat "TMI: Too Much Integrity"/""Lou Wants to Be a Millionaire"

"TMI: Too Much integrity" 

Louis tries to start a new way to start a new business consulting. But soon finds away by using Honey's mommy blog called TMI (True Mommy Insights). Honey sees that Louis is taking the fun out of her new blog when he pushes her and the website too far after getting sponsors. Louis apologies to Honey after he took off the post from her blog and posted the original post.

Meanwhile, Jessica is jealous to see her boys having more fun at the new neighborhood piazza that's in their circle drive neighborhood and tries to stop it by using a fun wheel. She tries to ruin the piazza for the boys by taking over the park; which got the boys upset. Both apologies and played boccie ball.


"TMI: Too Much Integrity" was a fun and good episode. It wasn't the best overall episode this season but it was entertaining. Overall, I give this episode a 7.5/10.

"Lou Wants to Be a Millionaire" 

As Lou goes on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, trying to win a million dollars; while filming he and Eddie argue over the idea of adding Asian fusion to the restraint menu. Meanwhile, Emery and Jessica are locked out of the studio but he uses acting to get back but Jessica doesn't follow him as she believes it's dumb.

After a while, Emery comes back for Jessica and talks about him loving acting and wants her support. After she accepts, as they go in Lou gets one question that uses the phone a friend to Eddie and tells him that his idea was a good one. As for the answer, Lou got it wrong.

Evan awaits for Lou's phone call from millionaire but gets distracted from Marvin's accident phone switch and Grandma's phone call to the all science question hotline.

"Lou Wants to Be a Millionaire" was a very good episode. I've very much enjoyed it from start to finish. While Eddie and Lou's story was good the Jessica and Emery's story was the better out of this episode. Seeing Jessica, who's not a fan of acting, finally accepting her son as he wants to be an actor. I hope that producer calls back soon for Emery. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

All Rise Season 1 Episodes 12-20

As All Rise has been one of CBS's biggest new shows this season; the second half of the first season proves it's powerful stories and characters.

I have been amazed at what All Rise has shown this season. With such strong and well-developed characters; plus their interesting and sometimes predictable storylines. While this ensemble cast has shown strong chemistry with one another; some like Simone Missick as Judge Lola Carmichael and Jessica Camacho as Public Defender Emily Lopez have given such strong and powerful performances; as the development of their characters grow.

In the second half of season one, Carmichael deals with helping Judge Lisa Benner with her campaign; as she finds anything dirt that could ruin her chances for the State Attorney General. Also dealing with personal issues like whether or not to continue to be separated from her husband due to their professions.

Meanwhile, Emily Lopez's relationship with former deputy sheriff now turned law in the DA's office, Luke Watkins grows; but takes a couple of steps back at times not only due to their work but personal struggles as well. Lopez still deals with PTSD of her former abusive relationship and it shows in episode 19 "In The Fight" where she defends an abuser in court that affects her.

There have been some humorist moments too like Sherri Kansky, Judge Carmichael's assistant dealing with a fun relationship with an LAPD detective that brings the fun out of the character since the series started. Even her and Carmichael having a breakfast outing too.

Also while I'm loving DDA Mark Callan and Carmichael's relationship as best friends; Callan and Amy Quinn have been a fun relationship to watch.  Even Judge Carmichael's court reporter, Sara Castillo been dating Judge Brenner's son and seeing Brenner finding out by her son picking up Sara's phone by mistake.

I've enjoyed watching All Rise this season; I hope that CBS will give this series a second chance and renew it. I want to see where these characters go; besides the COVID-19 has pretty much ruin the season as it shortens the number of episodes this season. This second half of the season I give an 8/10.

Monday's new episode will have the actors portraying them at their own homes via Zoom/FaceTime due do check-in and spread the awareness of communicating family and friends for support. I'm looking forward to it.

Parks and Recreation Special

This past Thursday NBC aired the anticipated special reunion episode of Parks and Recreation. And while it was everything we had wanted, it's really what we really needed.

In the episode, Leslie Knope gets everyone to contact the gang via FaceTime/Zoom to check on how they are doing during this COVID-19 situation. It builds into a chain from Leslie and Ben to Leslie and Ron and it goes from there till we end up with Garry, who no one wants to contact.

During the episode, we also check on Joan as she interviews Leslie and Ben. Jamm still jamming things up again with his business. And Jean-Ralphio doing his advertising thing and asking anyone to call him at his personal number. And not to mention, Bobby Newport (played by Paul Rudd) who beings the episode with a message and has no clue about COVID-19 because he's in Sweden.

But it was when Leslie tells Ron that she just wishes that she could contact everyone all at once; that got Ron and everyone to facetime with Leslie and Ben. Ron tells her that they know how important it is to stay connected during these times and has Andy playing 5,000 Candles in the Wind.

The episode was darn right perfect; as it didn't ruin anything from the series finale that's probably the best thing coming out of this special. But in seriousness it talks about during these social distancing times; we must connect to the people that we love or haven't seen in a long time and to pay tribute to the men and women that are putting their lives to helping people in this time from doctors, nurses, firefighters, and cops. This special was a 10/10 but really it's what we all needed at this time. Thank you Parks and Recreations!
