Trick or Treat: Chicago Med "Lesser of Two Evils"

When a child's life is in the balance, a secret will be revealed—this and many more, plus a party for Natalie and Will in this recap of Chicago Med.

When Ethan and April care for a child whose kidneys aren't working, it corresponds to Wilson's Disease.  She needs a transplant, but her parents aren't her biological parent. When Dr. Charles comes in to help, he feels there's something more than what meets the eye. The truth comes out when the mother tells Charles and Ethan that they didn't fully adopt her—but saved her when she was alone while her birth mother got high. The birth mother and smothered daughter don't want to see her. But even if that happened, she wanted to thank those who took her in.

Conner and Lanik butted heads this week, and I was looking for some fist-to-face moment, but I know Conner is better. When seeing Terry bring Lanik coffee and other things, Conner is amazed at how much scutwork Terry does. But when a trauma comes in, Lanik pressures Terry to put a central line in, but he fails nervously. Conner gives some advice to Terry while he tells him that maybe being a doctor was a bad choice. The wrong patient needs to lose his good chance to save the leg. Lanik doesn't think keeping the guy is essential because Conner thinks he's afraid that they 'lose him.

While getting ready for a Bachelor and Bachelorette party, Natalie and Will treat a woman who's shown bruises on her face down to her hips.  Thinking that it's her husband, Natalie gets the truth out of the patient. But soon, her patient had a blood clot, and any stress would cause the clot to burst. But her husband won't listen and brings her to leave. That is until that clot burst, and they pronounced her dead. Her husband goes pretty quickly while Natalie and Will get their patient help after she faked her death. It was such a tremendous Halloween-themed moment.

At the party, Will talks with Jay about Ray again and tells him he must bring him in for his heart condition. But Jay tells him not to because things won't be good. But it doesn't look like Will will leave it alone.

"Lesser Of Two Evils" was a very excellent ring episode.  The writing was so good. Ethan's story was so good,d and it could be an honest bitee about the difference between kidnapping and saving a child's life.  I was stunned, but I understood what they did was for the best of the child; I think that maybe the biological mother would want to share custody with them. There were many momomentsoo from Conner and Lanik butting heads to Conner and Ava having some good moments and Will and Natalie's party too. Will will do what he thinks is best as a doctor to treat his patients. Sorry, Jay.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

War is Set: Chicago Fire "A Volatile Mixture"

Image result for Chicago Fire"A Volatile Mixture"

From a mysterious trailer fire to Gorsch dictating the firehouse, here's a recap of the Chicago Fire.

With Gorsch back, he's been dictating everything that 51 has done, from telling Casey to give the reporter's story to the PR, even getting Boden to step down from his position and join his squad. But both Casey and Boden ignore Gorsch and carry on like they always do.

After a trailer fire, Casey was asked by a reporter to help to see if that fire was similar to the ones that she'd been investigating.  It turned out it was, and not only did they solve it and make it into the papers, but there's an excellent connection between them.

Gorsch pressures Boden to take it to Grissom, who ignores him completely. After telling Casey and Severide, Severide decides to talk to Benny and ask for help.  But with a look of sadness and defeat, Benny tells Severide that he'll try to help.

Brett and Foster are off to a great start in their friendship after some awkward moments. But doesn't that build the company?

"A Volatile Mixture" is a good episode and one that I would love to rewatch again and again. There were funny moments and moments we should consider, like Casey and the reporter. There seems to be something there right off the bat. Hopefully, let's take this slow and steady. Also, I think that Benny is hiding something and might take the next episode on what it is that will happen.  Benny wasn't being Benny in this episode like in the show's past six seasons. Also, the friendship between Brett and Foster was awkwardly funny and made me want to rewatch the attack repeatedly. As for Boden, the battle has been set between him and Gorsch. Bring it on!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Chicago Fire on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Family Bonding: Chicago PD "Fathers and Sons"

Disco Bob returns but is he bad or good? Here's a recap of this week's Chicago PD.

"Fathers and Sons" was an amazing and thrilling episode that really put the character of Adam Ruzek on the fence. When he goes undercover to take down a top drug dealer, Ruzek sees a familiar face, his father. Getting pressure not only from Hailey but Voight too. Ruzek meets with his dad and learns that he's just being the dealer's security. When the deal with Intelligence was about to be made, Ruze's father comes in and helps Adam take down the leader and other members.

Later on, Ruzek visits his father and he tells Ruzek that he's broken. Not to mention that the reason why he took the job was to get enough money to pay on the house. And ends the episode with "what kind of father asked his son for money?" which was pretty chilling and heartbreaking.

This was an amazing episode and one of Patrick John Flueger's solid performance. His chemistry between Jack Coleman was outstanding.  Even with that ending moment, there are some strong moments like Hailey and Voight pressuring Ruzek on the case to do something about his father. Or the moment when Voight tells Ruzek that he filed papers that his father was working with the Intelligence.

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Acceptance: Chicago Fire " This Isn't Charity"

The

It's Herrmann's first day as Lieutenant at 51. Will he be good? Here's a recap!

It's Herrmann's first day as the engine's Lieutenant. It doesn't go as well. He gets a beef with one of the firefighters who's not pulling his task and making jokes.  Herrmann comes to Boden for advice and tells him to do what he thinks is best, which is to get that guy's transfer papers ready.

Mouch gets a visit from Ritter and learns he decided to leave the firehouse. Mouch asks Ritter to come on to 51. Herrmann and Mouch begged Ritter to join; they told him why they thought he was a firefighter who got back up and kept going. He accepted.

Severide meets Stella's blast from the past friend, who feels he may not be over her. After Severide tells her what he thinks, we see it too. After she turns down his offer to go to a party at his cabin, he comes over to look for her to change her mind.

Casey and the team deal with grenades going off in the city. They learn that the widow of a Vietnam soldier had kept them; they tried to sell them, thinking that they were just toys. They were the real thing. Searching around the neighborhood, Casey gets a sighting of kids playing with grenades for a movie they're filming. Just as he gets there, the kid pulls the pin. Just as he lets go, Casey, in a split second, throws it in the pond.

And Brett sees what Foster is capable of.  They get a call of an accident at a gym where they know a girl who has broken a part of her shoulder.  Foster thinks that the kid is taking PEDs. She thinks the mother is the one doing it. Foster asks the doctor to run a drug test, but he disagrees. Brett tries to help Foster move on, but she won't. Foster gets a call from the mother and finds that she's on PEDs. Foster and Brett headed to the gym to confront the coach, who admitted he did even though he called them vitamins. Brett apologizes to Foster for not backing her up and mentions that her former partner would jump through hoops, too.

"This Isn't Charity" was an excellent episode with good character development for Foster, Herrmann, and Stella. The grenade storyline was a thrilling plot, but also I think the bigger storyline was watching Brett and Foster's partnership grow and Stella and Severide's relationship takes an awkward turn. I don't think it's over with that guy. He'll be back.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

Tough Desicion: Chicago PD "Ride Along"

Will one cop listen to her sergeant or a new ally when a ride-along goes wrong in a shootout?

"Ride Along" was a well-written, character-developing episode. When Burgess gives a ride-along to a kid, it doesn't go well when a shooting occurs. There, Burgess rescues a civilian who's hurt and moves him away from his arms way. She sees the shooter and tries to take him down but returns to the squad car to find the kid gone.

With Burgess upset about losing the kid, she goes to the parent's home to inform them and finds her there unarmed. But it wouldn't be the last time they would me as she would be a key witness in identifying the suspect.

But when Burgess gets interviewed from the Tower, she doesn't listen to Voight's advice but to Brennan about leaving out the part of leaving a kid behind in the squad car. It drives Burgess to a point where she's not the Burgess we know to love, like putting Brennan's relationship over Voight's.

Voight learns about what's happening with Burgess and gets Platt to help, too. Even though they got their suspect and Burgess almost let him suffer from a drug overdose, she saves him. Burgess apologized to Voight, but he gave it to her straight.

It might have been one intense episode, but the ending left with not only some warming moments but also some worried ones. After a rough few days, Platt takes Burgess out for coffee and kind of reminds her that she's got to choose who to listen to: Brennan or Voight. The worried moment comes off when Antonio is seen popping pain pills and asking his doctor for more.

This episode was powerful, intense, and character-driven. It was Marina Squerciati's best performance. She's my pick for "performance of the week." With the fierce and drama, there were a few funny moments, like Ruzek jumping on Antonio's balls about getting old and all. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Chicago PD on Wednesday at 10/9c on NBC.

You Have to Do It: Chicago Med "Backed Against the Wall"

Sometimes there are things that we don't want to do, but we have to do them anyway.

"Backed Against the Wall" plays with that motto throughout the episode.  Ethan and McNeal dealing with a lawyer who's been battling back pain asked for a prescription for painkillers. After learning that she gave a false name, they confront her about it, but she won't take no for an answer and demands to see their boss, Lanik.

Natalie deals with a mother, who's diagnosis with primary myelofibrosis (rare blood cancer), needs stem cell donation from a relative. But when her brother won't help at first because of his illegal immigration status,  he decides to help. But he gets arrested by ICE; thanks to Ethan's patient who told Lanik and Gwen about it. Natalie and Goodwin weren't too please and the only thing they could do is give a list of immigration lawyers to help.

The Conner and Ava relationship takes another twisted turn. When Conner is trying to save a young kid's heart; he needs the bypass machine to do repair a major part of the heart. But Ava advises him to bring the patient up to the OR with the machine ready. But when Conner thinks that he can lead the OR team; think again as Ava fooled him and took over as the lead for Conner's patient. Mad, Conner understands what she had to do and thinks of bringing a bypass machine to his hybrid OR.

Halstead probably balances the motto more in this episode than any other storyline. When he treats a patient, who's been dealing with symptoms that get worst and worst. With all test showing nothing abnormal, Halstead goes with his diagnosis of teratoma of the ovary. But after diagnosing his patient, Will comes to terms with being a CI for Voight and the intelligence to take down Ray Burke.

This was a very good episode, and at times very intense at times. Probably the only thing that wasn't too intense was Ethan meeting Emily's boyfriend and the baby's father Bernie. Not to mention Ethan working out in the first ten seconds of the episodes looking ripped. Nick Gehlfuss, Torrey DeVitto, and Colby Lewis did a solid performance in this episode with Lewis pretty much stealing the episode. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Chicago Med Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.

Family that's Together, Stays Together: Chicago Fire "Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand"

When Severide saves a father and son, can he save the family too? The heat is on Boden to make a decision for a new lieutenant.  Here's a recap of Chicago Fire.

Tensions build on Boden as he has to make a decision to appoint a new lieutenant. Jerry gives him the perfect candidate Trey Jennings, who happens to be Jerry's brother in law. Whether he picks him or not, Boden makes his decision at the fire fighters fundraiser. When he makes the announcement, Boden appointed Chris Herrmann as the new Lieutenant.

I don't think that Jerry wasn't too pleased to hear and I don't think Trey is going to be crying spilled milk about it either.

Severide rescues a kid as him and his father crashed over a bridge. The accident seemed questionable when the wife/mother get to Med and thinks that her soon to be ex-husband is the one that did it. She gives some convincing points about how he would want to die and take his son along with him, but  after hearing the husband's side of the story Severide decides to look into the accident again.

Looking around with Kidd, Severide looks around even a few feet away from the accident to find a dead deer. Kelly makes it back to the hospital and talks to the mother about how he found a dead deer that caused the accident, not her husband. The mother/wife seems to be very grateful and dropping the divorce.

This was an amazing episode from the beginning to the end. From the case of the week storyline for Severide to help a family before an ugly divorce gets even uglier to the intense moments of Boden's decision. Herrmann is the perfect choice for Lieutenant, and since he took the test a while ago its time for him to shine. There other moments, mainly when Truck 81 gets the call of a magic show gone wrong was hilarious!

Overall, I give this episode a 8.5/10.

Shocking Reaction: Chicago PD "Bad Boys"

WHAT THE HELL?!!!

Well, that was my first thought when seeing the first scene of "Bad Boys." Upton and Ruzek a couple? That really doesn't make sense but I guess we can give it a try. I guess it was just more than just beers.

Anyway,  when the intelligence unit gets called when a teenage girl of a wealthy Chicagoan is kidnapped. The father is one of those pain in the ash that will give a cash reward on the whereabouts.
But a suspect's tip took them to a warehouse where the teenager is found. After she's at Med, she left pretty quickly, even the father wanted her back home. As they look for the suspect, they didn't know that the one they let go is involved with her .

They searched for the suspect's boss, but by the time they get there; their suspect already shot him and escapes. They use the teenager to show up, but it got into a complicated chase where it leads to children in the line of fire but Ruzek takes the shot of killing the suspect.

Voight arrested the teenager, for helping the suspect escape; but Brennan dropped the charges. She got a nice cash fund for her boss that's running for Mayor.  But Voight got something out of it when he asked Brennan to get Al free from all charges so his wife and daughter could get the benefits, which was in a sense tears of joy.

I thought the episode was a real shocker for mainly Upton and Ruzek hooking up.  I don't know how long this will go, but maybe Ruzek won't jump to concussion on asking for marriage. I always thought maybe Upton and Halstead would be the one hooking up. Even the emotional upset moment when she walks away would be the go to moment. But overall, I very much enjoyed the episode as it was a nice story that had a very nice twist.

Overall, I give this episode a 8.8/10.

You can catch Chicago PD Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.

Gut Decisions: Chicago Med "Heavy Is The Head"

As Conner and Maggie put to the test of saving a patient while a med student is in questioned of her methods.  Here's a recap of Chicago Med!

As Conner's hybrid OR is almost ready, a patient comes in with a bad heart and is need of repair. Conner can't get him up to the OR in time and decides to use his hybrid OR, which upsets Maggie. With the typical OR nurse can't find anything, Maggie steps in and helps Rhodes. In the end, Conner and Maggie saved the patient and he thinks that she would be great if she works with him in the OR. That might come different for Maggie.

Natalie and Curry treat a woman, who's in the early stage of pregnancy, is suffering pain. All signs point out to be an ectopic pregnancy, but the mother won't consent to the surgery thinking that god will help save this baby. Even Charles talks to her but sees that she's talking and thinking clearly about her decision. Curry doesn't like it and misinforms the mother about that there isn't a heart beat and had got the surgery. But Charlies learn that the equipment didn't malfunction and confronts Curry and tells her that he's gonna look thoroughly  of her cases.

Ethan and April deal with a child, who's in need of a kidney transplant. But they learn that the father is red flagged as he kidnapped him and calls the cops. As he's arrested, his son gets worst and tries to look for a kidney. Seeing that the father is a match, Gwen orders the team not to do the transplant. But the father later shoots himself in the head and Choi had no other options but to do the transplant.

And when all things seem to go Halstead's way, after treating his father's old friend, he asked if he could rent out a place that he owns for the wedding reception. After agreeing to terms, he tells Natalie about the deal. As they are thrilled about it; it turns out when a visit from Jay turns things upside down. The guy is a mob boss, who's been under watch for a while now and ask Will to step away.

"Heavy is the Head" is not only a great song from the Zac Brown Band, it's also a really great episode. As much as Ethan and April's story in this episode was very powerful; it was very interesting to see Conner and Maggie work together. The Curry story was shocking and pushing Charles is something I would be afraid to see from now on. And I don't think Will will turn down the place. I don't see why not have a wedding at Molly's, right?

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Chicago Med Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.

Chicago Fire "Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand" Preview

Here's a preview of this week's new episode of Chicago Fire titled, "Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand."

"Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand"

When Chief Boden becomes increasingly skeptical of Assistant Deputy Commissioner Gorsch's motives, while Severide gets wrapped up in a difficult situation following the rescue of a child from a car wreck. And while trying to fit in with the rest of the firehouse, Foster is tasked with doling out some personal advice to Cruz.

Seems that we might see Boden and Jerry butting heads. I think that Cruz is dating the lady that he rescued with the dog named Rizzo. Which is pretty cute I think. Go Cubs! Kidd is back at work, maybe to do some light work for now I think. I think that maybe, just maybe there might be a thing between Brett and Casey. I don't know I just have this feeling. But what do I know, right?

Tension In The Family: Chicago PD "New Normal" Season Premiere

With Voight being benched, tensions grow on the team to find the seller of harmful drugs in the season premiere of Chicago PD.
The
"New Normal" picks off a few days after Al's death and killing murderers. When Voight gets a call of an overdosed kid at a park, he gets confronted by the commander, who tells him that he's suspended due to the investigation of that shooting.

When Voight tells the intelligence team about it, it puts tension between Antonio and Ruzek throughout the episode as they try to find the dirty dope. With Antonio's good cop ways and leading the team, it's slowing the process where more and more kids are dying. It leads Ruzek to ask Voight for help, which he does.

After arresting a suspect, he wouldn't speak to Halstead and Antonio. Voight threatens the suspect to tell them where the dope is, or he'll burn the money. After he does, Ruzek tells Antonio, and after making multiple arrests, the tension between Adam and Antonio tops the cap, and the two fight.

Antonio visits Voight at the bar to confront them about what had happened. Voight tells him that all he was trying to do was help them get the lousy dope off the street.  Voight explains to Antonio that he needs him on the team; he's good at being the good, clean cop.  And after that, Voight met with the commander again and talked.

After Voight's suspension was lifted after finding the video of him making a clean shoot and exchange gets Al's pension to his wife and daughter. Voight tells the team that we need to stick together as a team and as a family.

Soon, we get to Al's funeral, and Al's widow doesn't want Voight there. So, as the intelligence team carries Al's casket to the hearse, we see everyone, including Voight, salute one last time to our beloved Al.

This fantastic season opener tells us what we are in for for the season. I feel we will see more tension in Mortensen's intelligence team. The writing was strong, and the performance from the cast was terrific. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Chicago PD tomorrow in the epic One Chicago Crossover event beginning with Fire at 8/7c, Med at 9/8c, and PD at 10/9c on NBC.
